Great video highlighting that evebln with a newer drone, you cant beat the laws of physics! Ive had my mini 1 for almost two years and had some fantastic days out in various open areas but I made a mistake last Friday and broke the 3 rules i set myself which were 1. Don't fly the drone in strong winds, 2. Don't fly in built up areas 3. Dont fly near antennas and power lines. I broke all three when i was at work the drone went up to about 50 meters, then i lost signal due to some interference, it tried to return to home but the wind was too strong and it slowly drifted away over buildings, main roads and big industrial buildings, I followed it to where the log shows it was and nothing, lesson learned! I have just picked up another mini one from ebay, but now i will respect its limitations much more 😊

Sorry to hear you lost the Mavic mini. Yes indeed I see a lot of people that push there drones over the limit and it’s quite easy to get caught out. If the winds are stronger than the RTH speed your on a loser before you take off. Wonder if you used the find my drone? It will be there unless someone picked it up before you got there 🤷♂️ glad you got another one 👍 thanks 🙏

I have an original Mavic Pro and took it out in high winds. Took it about .75 miles out and just barely made it back far enough so I could set it down before the batteries completely ran out. It was doing about 3mph on the way back, so the wind was probably 35 mph or so. If you're drone can only do 40 mph, then it won't do well in 40+ mph winds!

I flew my drone at night to capture timelapse of a severe storm front rolling in, and when the storm got close there were sudden wind gusts of 40 - 50mph winds and I nearly lost my Mini 4 Pro during its RTH at 400ft. I was prepared to manually land the drone in a nearby parking lot and go drive to get it, but somehow I fought agains the winds by pushing the drone up and down at different angles until I got it back with just 10% battery to spare. Not to mention it started pouring down rain right where I got it back. This thing is a beast! But very close call for sure. I have a video of the storm on my channel.

Great video but when it's windy and the drone is far away and in high altitude, this tiny guy won't return. It will may be cut through the wind but the speed would be very slow and eventually give up. My recent issue with DJI air 2s, it could not come back in high wind even at 30 meters altitude, so very skeptical with these small drones, fighting wind in a constant position vs cutting through the wind and coming back longer distance is very tricky.

You should use sports mode and fly into the wind in strong winds to enable a larger drone tilt angle Decrease altitude for reduced headwind wind speeds Always fly upwind of yourself only just to be safe

45MPH is pretty extreme. But it's not the wind speed that are the worry. It's the gusts. An even, consistent, 30MPH wind is a more stable flight than a 30MPH flight with random multiple 45MPH gusts. It also depends on where you're shooting. Over the local field with zero obstacles and flying relatively low I'm confident I can fly 30-35MPH no issues. But over any body of water where the drone could come down and be lost, I'd be looking for almost perfect conditions.

Scared me just watching that Nobby, especially all the near-misses. On a windy day in December. I took my mini 3 Pro up into the air. It look like it was handling the wind quite well at 280 feet in the sky. Average wind were 18 mph. Although gust were supposed to be around 40 - 50mph. It did humm a bit, when there was a 34 mph, gust that was the strongest recorded on Airdata UAV. But almost 4 minutes into the flight my drone encountered a very strong and continues gust. My drone drifted 170 feet. I keep push the stick and bring the drone down, but it was still moving backwards. You could hear the drone buzzing, quite loudly as it try to hold it position. Between 115 and 80 feet high the drone, started to come back toward me at slow 6 mph in sport mode. 😥

Lol dang man that was pretty close. I wonder if it was being blown into a tree if the sensors would see it coming and try to raise up if it got too close or not. I know you demonstrated in another video how when it’s hovering the sensors don’t react like that so if it’s being blown around like that when it’s hovering I bet the sensors don’t work right, eh? Does that make sense? Lol. Kristi wanted me to tell you that was some strong wind. We don’t have wind like that here unless the wind is that strong. And I’m quite certain I saw your hair blowing around man. Hahahaha.

"Can't see my hair blowing". Likely You lost it in worse winds earlier.... Joking! I face the same progress up there.... In my mind it's good to know the RTH speed of the drone and not flying in winds greater then that. Else manual flying must work. The wind shaking the drone also cost a lot of battery energy and gives less of flying time. ' Today I was out testing 2 Mavic 3 Enterprise batteries in my Mavic 3 pro. The weather was low clouds, haze, fog. The drone was whet like having a shower after a few minutes long flight. Some really strange things happened. The video is launched at midnight. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2LMlpeAabSUjbs Unexpected, total loss of radio even having 5 bars. Picture suddenly went all white.... Scary moments that ended well.
@nobby-green7 ай бұрын
I think my hair was lost over 20 years ago 😁 good point about the RTH speed as it won’t come back if the wind speeds are greater. Flying in fog can be worse than flying in rain as the humidity is greater causing more dampness on the drone 👍 I’ll check your video when it’s live thanks 🙏
