For me, the NEO is just a starter drone with the intention of encouraging owners to eventually purchase additional DJI drones. The HOVER is available in two versions: the Pro and the Pro Max. A new feature is that content creators can speak live during the drone flight, saving time that would otherwise be spent on video editing. In addition to its use as a selfie drone, I see the HOVER as an action drone. Skiing is a good example; being able to provide live updates to followers while skiing down a slope is a bonus. The DJI Mini microphone can also be used with the HOVER, and the propeller noise can easily be edited out, allowing you to capture sounds even in the middle of a flip. I doubt that "Voice Control" will be widely used. I see gesture control, which worked very well on the previous model, as a more practical feature out of the HOVER. As a selfie and action drone, I believe the HOVER is better positioned in the market than the NEO. Time will tell who will come out on top. BTW: The idea of a compact charging case is well reflected. A quick charge during the lift transport or lunch.

The BIGGEST determinant for me is Hoverair dont rely on GPS & has no remote ID allowing me to create quick travel drone shots where DJI wont even allow me to take off.

I have 3 DJI drones and the HoverAir X1, just ordered the X1 PRO and will also get the NEO but tbh, I travel a lot and the drone that comes with me will be the HoverAir X1 Pro due to it's size when folded. Many countries are increasingly becoming paranoid when it comes to drones via customs/immigration. When folded, the X1 PRO does not look like a drone, I've travelled to many countries with original X1 and it doesn't even get a second look. I actually had a security personal at an airport who thought it was a portable fan lol. But, at home and flying where I fly on private property, my Avata2 and the NEO will be in my gear bag. Both have their place, I wish DJI made the Neo foldable but they wanted an FPV as well as a 'selfie' drone all in one so the folding feature was not an option.

The foldable aspect is a massive bonus for sure. It kind of looks like a high end graphics card for a computer when folded.

I do believe in the US you need a Part 107 even for these drones if it is used in the "furtherance of your business" or if you make any type of money using it. So if you are say a photographer and use it during a photoshoot for behind the scenes stuff that would be Part 107 related. I'm not saying I agree with it but would rather have the license than catch a fine with the FAA.

Nice post , thanks! It would be very important to know upon testing how resistant it is to crashes on trees or other obstacles, as its gimbal looks more exposed compared to Neo and it does not have collision avoidance. Also the side mesh parts with the props look like they could slightly fold upon impact , unlike the Neo which is one piece drone. I guess lack of "beacon" for the Neo means it would stop following, if it accidentally unlocked from the subjet visually. Imagine this happening when you are skiing down a slope ! Another point to be tested.

Hoverair is definitely more expensive. But Outside of using the DJI app, I think with the Hoverair Joystick and Beacon, it's till a better performer than the DJI, unless you're hell bent on using the DJI controller. The only thing that would make me go DJI is if I really wanted to use the goggles if I already had it. Bu neither quad will perform like a real fpv drone, and I think just on its own, the X1 pro takes the cake.

I love this comparison, as it reflects a choice I’ve been struggling with since I heard of their impending releases. As someone who flies both Hover Air and DJI (also use other DJI products - mic, pocket 3). I think both companies do great things. The original Hover air was really cool in terms of being able to get unique 3rd person b-roll quickly, but the camera was just so-so, and the footage wasn’t really usable for anything other than quick social posts. With the x1 PRO MAX shipping with an 8K camera and the 1 1/3” sensor, i feel like everything i disliked about the x-1 should be addressed (better in low light, better tracking with the beacon). The only place where the NEO has the PRO MAX outright beat is in the collision detection, but if I want to get all fancy with that , i can always spin up my mini pro 4. That being said, I feel that the neo has a great price- I’ve preloaded the pro Max, but maybe I’ll pick up a neo if they go on sale.

The Neo does not have the pro max outright beat in collision detection. Where did you get that from? Neo has no collision detection at all. Pro max has 2 different sensors on the back specifically for collision detection. Smh.

I had more than dozens of DJI products across drone filming and FPV, I also have countless freestyle drones and RC modles using the Vistas and O3s, but this time I contributed to the perk of X1 Pro. The reasons are two: 1. I am skeptical to the active track performance of the Neo. I assume it to be as crappy as the Mavic 3 Pro which is a big NoNo. 2. I hate DJI geographic fence. How dare DJI as a company to execute the government law without the permission ? Are we so used to be ruled by foreign dictators ? Both companies are from China, but one with the respect to humanity and local laws, the other is a pure sovereignty.

The Hover can be put in a jacket or pants pocket, but Neo most likely cannot, a bag is a must. In practice, this limits or makes it inconvenient to use this new type of device. After all, the main advantage of the Hover was its quick readiness for launch compared to conventional drones.

Totally agree on the foldable design of the Hover. I owned a X1 and had lots of fun with it and now ordered the Pro version. in this case size does matter 😁

Agreed. The image quality I’ve seen of the Hover air Pro Max from a few actual users is absolutely stunning and near professional grade. Not even close. I already own the mini 3 pro, so will use that for longer range cinematic, but that Hover Pro Max’s improvements with obstacle avoidance and being able to fly higher in level 5 winds makes is worth waaay more than the Neo IMO. Plus I build, program and fly FPV drones everyday. I personally would be bored with the NEO after a few flights

@@reviewprodigy Of course is more expensive but not that much compare to top notch feathers & futuristic looks in Promax & all packed up in a little body, well built & much easier to use & carry it around in any DJI Drones big or small as u need to have controller big & bulky body as needs , this is just fly's from ur hand , land in ur hand fold it put it in ur pocket go to next with location with dropping feathers in this new one ...U cant f*n beat that with any of them, even in price wise!

Yah, the Pro Max is in a class by itself tbh. It's the only folding portable drone that shoots 8K and has 10 bit, no one else has this that I know of and probably why it's price higher. I don't think they are targeting the general 'market' with the PRO Max lol

DJI by far, always top notch quality. Specs are only interesting on paper. No other drone brand delivers the quality like DJI does. I am not a DJI fanboy and already have flown a lot of other drones.
