What are your thought on the new DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro? Will you upgrade? 🤷🏻‍♂

@@MatthiasLebo Here's a rephrased version of your request: I currently own the OA3 and am considering an upgrade to the OA4 or OA5. However, I'm waiting for unbiased reviews that aren't sponsored, which clearly outline the pros and cons. I want to make an informed decision about which one is better for underwater footage and which one deserve the upgrade I am quite sure that OA5 will provide several firmware update in the future considering users requirements but still need profitional opinion.

Im more lean to buy the OA5 Pro than the Gopro 13…i still have the gopro10 Large sensor, temperature sensor, brighter video. Looking forward to see your review with attached lens from AOI or Inon.

From DJI FORUM QUOTE action5pro 4nm chip greatly increases encode efficiency: using less bitrate without sacrificing image quality. (Technically good enough Signal-to-Noise Ratio compare to video raw ) For a same level encoding chip and algorithm, bitrate increasing does help with detail, but details stop to gain as bitrate reaches the saturation point. chip and encoding algorithm improvement will lower the saturation point birate, just like action5pro does END QUOTE

@Amer-m8y I'll make a comparison once I get my OA5 Pro and have some time to take the two on a couple of dives. Stay tuned...

Dji reduces the bitrate for long time battery and to avoid overheating But they promised that it will be added as an option for the next firmware update We would like to see a comparison between OA4 and OA5 for underwater footage Cause i trust your opinion

just sent my 5 back with the bit rate being the issue. DJI didnt suggest to keep it, and wait for the upgrade.

@amer-m8y I don't think it's got anything to do with overheating. I mean the frame rates and resolution didn't chance since the OA4 and that one didn't overheat with the higher bitrate of 130mbps. Battery life could very well be a main reason for doing this. Well, I hope they'll bring back the higher bit rate in a future firmware update. And yes, I'll definitely make a comparison of the OA4 and OA5 Pro sometime soon.

I have the 4. Ordered the 5 yesterday as DJI have already confirmed the higher bitrate options will be available in next firmware. Therefore, for a scuba diver, the battery upgrade and internal storage and same dive case I already own make this a no brainer for me to try and optimize action camera footage to be integrated with my other bigger camera footages (a7s3) in my underwater videos.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us @GaryTyson. What you're saying makes total sense and I've also place my order already, hoping it gets here in time for my upcoming trip next week to Egypt. Really curious to test this action cam under real life conditions.

@@MatthiasLebo fingers crossed. Mine arrived today so I’ll get it in the water at the weekend to test here in the Philippines. See you here sometime 🙏🏻👌🏻

The lower bitrate is because in the initial firmware they only provided HEVC (which is a total piece of crap). They need to provide H264 in the next firmware upgrade for me to buy. Also, I cannot understand how DJI can put a 1-inch sensor in the Osmo Pocket 3 (which looks gorgeous), but cannot put the same sensor in this camera.
@MatthiasLebo
@MatthiasLebo 21 сағат бұрын
Thanks for your comment @AquaticRod. Do you think HEVC can not handle larger bit rates? Interesting... But I agree, I would also like to see H.264 come back. Much easier to work with in my opinion. Regarding the sensor, I don't think it's a matter of not being able to put the Pocket 3 sensor in the Osmo Action series. Like all camera manufacturers they are trying to keep certain features to certain camera lines and not have the same features in all their cameras. That way, you can kind of push customers to buy several of your cameras, not just one. 😉 Just a speculation, but not impossible in my opinion.

@@MatthiasLebo I think that the camera does not need a higher bit rate in HEVC (H.265) as the format is so compressed.

DJI have emailed another reviewer and suggested they will address the bit rate issue, However, I have sent my 5 back with the reason being the bit rate. DJI did not say that was to be addressed and accepted my return request, I was however hoping DJI would say an firmware was in the pipeline. I may well re buy it if the bitrate is improved. All the other new osmo 5 features are great.

Thanks for your comment @andy.underwater.videos. Other people have said that DJI did confirm an increased bitrate option will be added with the next firmware update. I don't have any officially confirmed information on that, but would certainly love to see this happening rather earlier than later.

@frackamaduk unfortunately not. The sensor needs pressure to be able to work and it won't get that through the housing.

In case of diving in salt water using the waterproof case the depth sensor wouldn’t work
