I have both the iPhone and the Pocket 3. One bit thing is that I would rather use the pocket 3 in public than the iPhone, it is less conspicuous and easier to hold up than filming with phone. I certainly will not be carrying a gimbal about. Also, I frequently get messages and sometimes phone calls which is a difficult to manage while filming. I do not have or wish to purchase an Apple watch which means I have to film myself with the front facing camera. I’ve tried filming myself with the back camera and I am always out of focus since I cannot see myself while filming.

One thing that many people don’t realize about their iPhone, because they have a case on it, is that the apple logo on the rear of your phone is a mirror. If you can see your face in the mirrored logo, you are in the frame.

Hi Tamara, thanks for this nice video. You are right, the Pocket 3 is not weather sealed. Nevertheless I saw (don't know who it was- David Manning?) a KZbinr who ran the whole day through his city and showing beautiful videos. And: It was raining the whole time. He said it was no problem for him and the tiny little camera.

Not all of us own iPhones, or a good phone so for me getting the osmo for my videos was no brainer. I love it. Just need to sort out the focus as it goes a bit weird, pumps, if I'm shooting myself but am behind objects. It doesn't know what to focus on. My zve10 however, I can switch to manual focus. Nice vlog.

I have a real estate channel where I do property tour videos, and the iPhone 15 pro wide-angle lens is the best thing I've seen in a long time. When I pair the iPhone with the Insta 360 Flow, my tours look exceptional. I used to use the pocket 2 for my tours last year and was never pleased with the wide-angle lens. Now, my iPhone 15 pro + insta360 flow + rode wireless pro solves all my problems. if I were to start vlogging, I'd pick up the Pocket 3 Creator combo because I like the small package for on-the-go filming.

The biggest problem with the iPhone is its automatic white balance. Unless you use the correct white balance tool and use manual white balance to take photos or videos, you will often take photos or pictures with disappointing color distortion.

Another point being that I use my iPhone for everything when running my business out and about, emails, calls, website, etc, etc. If someone nicks my phone or it falls of a bridge or whatever, it is more than just the price of the phone!! Whereas the camera is just the camera!

Since I'm a totally beginner at this and your video looks so awesome, I just wanted to ask which are the settings you use to vlog so smoothly while talking to the camera? I tried vlogging while walking around the city and the face tracker while walking and unfortunately my footage is still jumpy (basically the up and down movement of the way I walk is really noticable.) Considering the previous release cycles of the Pocket series, it's not very likely that there will be another one before late 2025 at the earliest, more likely late 2026. And even then, it would still be uncertain if it's going to be IP certified since they have the Action series for all-weather purposes. So if you think you'd enjoy using the Pocket 3 and are not constantly filming in heavy rain or other critical conditions, I can only suggest to just go for it.

I'd choose the iPhone. I know the pocket 3 destroys it in terms of having a 1 inch sensor and cleaner videos but it only has 2 views. wide and ultra wide (technically 1 if you don't put the magnetic lens on) , which is good for self vlogging and a little bit of scenery capture but what if suddenly you need that zoom? or you need a picture in picture perspective? the iPhone will have the advantage in terms of versatility. plus, the iphone is also a pocket pc which you can edit your videos if you are on vacation and forgot your laptop and you can upload the finished product directly to social media. it's an all in one device. the only time I would invest in an extra camera like the pocket 3 is if I have the extra money, other than that I can work with the iPhone.

In London they tried to steal my phone 3 times that is the main reason I want to buy the pocket 3. Secondly, being able to see myself, third the weight. I have to use the Insta Gimbal (I love) by is extremely heavy. Fourth, my phone is ALWAYS packed with random videos and photos, super heavy files and suddenly stops to record and sometimes even without that, would be mixed with personal photos and videos… 🎉

Hi Tamara. When you go out filming, do you have a plan that you follow - a shot list? Or do you play it by ear? It would be interesting to know which way you approach it. I'm going on holiday (to the Philippines) soon and I have the pocket 3, a mini 3 drone, an Action 3 and a 360 X3 to choose from and my phone - the S23 ultra. I wonder whether making a shot list is going to over complicate things or make them easier. What's best in your experience?

Yeah, I rarely film a vlog without a plan in place otherwise I'm just walking around aimlessly and waffling, haha! So, I have a script that I write out word for word, even if I don't read it word for word it helps me formulate what I want to say and then I can glance at paragraphs before I start talking to make sure I don't miss anything, and I can mark stuff off as I go to make sure I've covered everything. Then I make a shot list for shots I know I need to get based on what I'm talking about, but I also just get general filler b-roll, which isn't on the shot list, as I'm walking around. Also, if I have a more complex scene based on an idea that I have, I use Milanote to lay it out.

iPhone 15 pro max video is way more than enough to do KZbin videos. I don’t have to shoot in ProRes, it’s just KZbin videos so regular 4K is acceptable. It’s telling a good story not so much of video quality.

Ive been watching all of your videos on the Osmo Pocket 3. I am looking at it for filming fashion/style reels mostly indoors but to be able to track myself qnd also for th3 easy mic functionality for talking videos. I use a sony zv e10 atm but find the whole process bulky and I cant always get my external mic to work without sounding raspy etc. i thought would be easier to jump on and use for creating chatty vertical content and wondered if you thought worth it for indoor shooting ?

Yeah, the Osmo Pocket 3 does really well indoors as well as outdoors. It mainly comes down to lighting though as most cameras will do better when the light levels are good. But I filmed a video indoors at night in my hotel room where I don't really have control of the lights, in terms of brightness and temperature, and the Pocket 3 did an awesome job. I just had a quick look at some of the videos you create and I think the Pocket 3 would serve you well.

Hi Tamara- great video thanks! Side note: Have you noticed when taking pictures with the iPhone 15 pro front camera that the picture comes out darker than what it looks like in the view finder? In a good amount of natural light, it looks fine and well lit in the view finder but then when you take the photo it renders really dark and a bit distorted in the camera app. It seems to be an ongoing issue for a number of people as there is a long thread on the apple community page. Was just wondering if you've noticed that too?

I can't thank you enough for this review. I currently use only my iphone for real estate videos and pictures. I am trying to get that floating flow state stabilization. Maybe I can get it on my phone and just do not understand settings. I am currenlty using a HOHEM Gimble with my iphone. Would you say the quality is comparable or is one better than the other? If they are comparable I may splurge for an aerial camera!! Please help. Do you have a tutorial or Point me in the right direction on a tutorial to make flow state videos on my iphone maybe I don't need to buy the osmo?? haha augh

You should be able to achieve the smooth footage with your phone and a gimbal, and if you shoot in 60fps you can slow the footage down for smoother effect.

I used to use my phone on a gimbal but quickly realized that's my phone gone lol. And even now there are no phone cameras that can compete with the Pocket 3 for video quality, especially iPhone. I find them far too digitized. Even if phone cameras caught up with the Pocket 3 I still wouldn't want to tie my phone up when I need it for other stuff as you mentioned.
