Yes because Sony does not think that effective stabilization is needed. I loved my Sony Sony camera output, but as soon as I was moving / walking the footage was too shaky even with the crop penalty if the medicare stabilization. Plus the additional cost of the Sony (gimbal) in both $ and weight for a camera and lens that costs 3x more.

The Sony is superior, but its surprising how close the DJI can compete. It depends on the use case i think, the Sony has that polished professional image, and the DJI would make great BTS and vlogging as you say. My 2 cents! Great vid bro!

@@spirittravels. yeah it’s 10x the camera, but also maybe 20x heavier? I use vintage lenses and fast zooms, so my camera bag gets heavy pretty quickly. The pocket 3 would be like carrying a small flashlight around 😂

Not at all, when you view it on a laptop screen, the image isn’t comparable. When phone screen resolution jumps to 4k, you’ll notice it, though that’s most likely the reason phone manufacturers haven’t moved to 4k screen like the Sony Xperia even though the battery life is comparable and price point isn’t too drastic of a jump. Their camera tech is based around our current displays. And when that goes up, the tiny sensors aren’t going to stack up

the dji cost like 1/4 of the lens alone, probably 10-12X less than the whole setup... for not that much more on image quality (yes, it will be much bigger at night) the pocket 3 have amazing value.

Interesting comparison. I really love my Pocket 3. I intend to use it for wide shots and my FX30 with a prime lens for tighter shots with some beautiful bokeh. Best of both worlds. One doesn't have to replace the other one. They are just tools that can compliment each other. Throw in an Osmo Action 4 for those car scenes and bam. DJI is killing it with 10bit. It would be nice to see more videos of some slog3 mixed footage with D-log M.

As an old man who started shooting on some the heaviest most awkward gear ever made, having the right setup for the job is golden. My Black Magic/Ronin setup is cool for film & commercial work but not practical for much else. In fact, there's some jobs I dread shooting with it. Especially when I'm hired to do stills and the client asks "how much extra to get some video clips?". Hell, If I had this I'd start asking THEM if they also wanted video clips. They just need something basic, the footage isn't going on Netflix. lol

I just finished editing a commercial promo (paid client work) I shot entirely with the Pocket 3 and Mavic 2 Pro. OP3 displaced my RS2+A7iv+Rode Film Maker mic TX/RX. I had surgery on my left arm recently and am unable to bear the full weight of the large rig. The OP3 was a life saver!

A lot of times in weddings you need a longer focal length (up to 105mm FF equiv) because you can't be very close to the bride/groom all the time (eg. when they step on a stage or when they are dancing and surrounded by guests. So, no, Pocket 3 is not ideal because it is only a wide angle. And what will they think, if they are paying clients, and you just show up with such a toy looking camera to the wedding?

Have notice that pocket 3 often overexposing. So turn down it to almost -0.7 would be good. What numer of sharpness reduction would be equal to your sony you would say? -2 or -3? Also did you try to reduce noise reduction in pocket 3 and looked how that came out?

At first, the side by side comparison made colors look a bit better on the Sony, but only a little, and I wouldn't notice the DJI being less saturated unless they were side by side... then in some other shots, the Sony looked TOO saturated to me... I'm sure this can be adjusted somewhat... For what it is, and what it costs, the DJI seems to be a big hit for many use cases.... I need to get one!

The Sony is definitely producing a better image, however, the difference is slight and not in proportion to either the cost or the convenience. The Pocket 3 is a fantastic product.

Well I did use it on the weekend my Sony A7 4 with a f 2.8 lens and the DJI osmo pocket 3 and well with the osmo I could get the same depth of field but an impressive result , with a better focus follow and nearly mech colors very easy . Very impressive little cam !

Good video, just a tip: the background "glitch effects" on the 8:53 "stabilization" part are a bit pointless IMO, since it takes away your focus from the quality test. I think many can agree!

I just used a pocket 3 at a wedding. To get buttery smooth footage I had to use an old Came h4 glidecam along with the pocket 3. The two together produces super smooth footage

I am about to buy the Pocket 3, so I have a couple of questions. I also own a Sony and want the ease the pocket gimbal offers as my Ronin gimbal is too heavy for long-time use. With D-Log on Pocket 3, greenery at about 1:46 seems to have less detail in the shadows, compared to the Sony. Would the Osmo be better with the HLG profile? Isn't 2020 supposed to give more dynamic range than the D-Log which, I think, correct - me if I am wrong, is Rec.709? With my Sony, using HLG I have room to correct the highlights, so I wish I knew if I could do that in post with the Pocket 3 footage. I work as a video editor so I don't mind the extra time in post. At about 4:24 there is visible noise in the shadows, mostly bottom right and then bottom left. Isn't the Pocket 3 supposed to be better in noise than the other action cams? I have the GoPro 10 and behaves the same way with noise in the shadows. Finally, I found and will buy a set of variable NDs for the Pocket 3. When recording at 24 fps with 1/50 and manually setting ISO, is there a way to also use an EV setting, or it is greyed like the GoPro, therefore only the variable ND will help me control exposure? Quality-wise, does the Pocket 3 video look solid? I don't mean oversharpened, as I will probably set the detail to -2, I mean if in daylight it looks as if it's not shot with a secondary camera, as I would like to use it for stock footage videos too, not just YT.

Honestly how many times as little creators we are just like " arf do i really want to setup everything for that shot arf " and then you have the pocket 3 which can give you 90% same quality in most conditions. Hmmm...I think the out of the box colors of the pocket 3 look consistently less natural. The sky is always candy blue and vegetation looks less vibrant. Just from a color reproduction pov, I think Sony wins this. The rest is pretty good though!

For 99% of vloggers the pocket 3 is as good as anyone will ever need it light small and does everything they need especially with the wireless DJI Mike. For more professional content obviously you need at least a camera with the ability to have other focal length lenses. Obviously, you need ND filters and maybe some other type of filters which I’m sure will be available on the DJI as well. Question is really for more KZbin channels bloggers and the lake DJI pocket three versus iPhone 15 Pro you’d likely already have the phone on you and the stabilization is great. If there’s some type of case will you get some ND filters that would probably be the better comparison to the pocket.

Conclusion is, for vlog, you can throw the sony in the dustbin, or , you should start using the sony for its real purpose instead of comparing it to a real vlog camera like the osmo pocket 3.

I don't like the standard profile, it doesn't seem very different to me from previous models (or smartphones). But in full manual mode and using exposure compensation well (with ND filters if necessary), in D-log M 10-bit you can really pull off some stunning footage!

Not 2 wireless mics, but you can choose to enable the onboard mic + wireless to get 2 audio sources. Obviously this would be best if the interviewer was holding the camera and the guest was farther from camera to prevent phase issues.
