After using the DJI Osmo Pocket for the past week I finally got around to finishing this video. Watch until the end to get my thoughts and concerns on DJI's latest product!

Your review is one of my favorites because it's clear and it's not too hard to understand especially for those who are starting out. I like this set up because it's quick and easy. When I get better at shooting content with advanced equipment and planning it out, then perhaps I'll invest in more. For now, this is great. Thank you for all your hard work!

Audio engineer here, no need to apologise it sounds good! What is interesting, is what musicians have known for a long time...with good fundamentals, you don't need expensive gear to get great results. Lots of Sufjan Stevens last album was recorded on iPhone and SM57 ($70). Joe Rogan's podcast uses the SM7b ($200). Protect the mic from plosives, record in a quiet environment, de-ess if required, get in a dead room for VO and stay away from echoic walls. Get in your bedroom, under the covers if you can't find that.

when you showed the comparison image of the Pocket vs. Iphone XS, the Pocket looked at least 3 stops darker compared to the iphone.

Very interesting content from the little camera. Personally I hate the whole slow motion thing with a vengence but I guess I'm out of touch with the times. It has become the replacement for the old "hose and zoom" style of video - so overdone in my view. When you watch a TV show or movie, how often do you see slow motion used? Usually just the bit where the reunited lovers run towards each other along the beach at the very end! :)

Love the quality of the video brother! This really has me thinking of going with the Osmo Pocket over the GoPro 7. My question is when you connect your phone with the adapter, does the sound get recording through the phone mic or the Osmo mic still? Everyone on Casey's video is talking about the horrible audio quality of the Osmo, but towards the end of the clip on his video the audio got pretty crispy, and the audio seems decent for the most part on your video also. Also wondering if you've tried connecting Osmo to an external mic like a Rode mic or anything to try to improve the audio? Badass work as always man!

The iPhone video brightness and contrast during day time seems to do better than the OSMO at 6:15 . That bush is much more well represented on the iPhone

Hey man! Great video. To be honest this is the first video of yours I am watching since I just picked up the Osmo and saw you did a nice review. Awesome job! I do have a couple questions though. I am rather new to shooting and was wondering what settings you prefer shooting in when going manual. Mic adapter and ND filters are on the way. If the screen is not bright enough in sunlight, use your phone.

Thanks for this. Seems like the biggest issue with this new device may be the somewhat unreliable auto focus. I plan to lock the focus often to avoid it hunting. Some of the shots are some of the nicest footage I've seen. cheers.

The iPhone camera clearly has more dynamic range. But word to the wise: buy only from a retailer with a liberal return policy. Chances are good that you won't be able to activate the device and it will be of no use. We got this just days before traveling and we were unable to use it because we don't have an iPhone which apparently is required to 'activate' this device. I never heard of a camera that doesn't work when you charge the battery and put in a memory card!

Nope, DJI is not providing a micro usb adapter and no reverse micro usb adapter that is present on most of the new phones in south east asia.

Thank you for posting! I assume it will behave similar to my Osmo +. I found shooting 24 fps (my choice) keeping the shutter 180’ 1/50th (closest to 1/48th) I use ND 16 or ND32 to force the shutter slower and put the camera on Shutter Priority where the ISO rolls up and down to maintain exposure better than on fully manual where I had a choice of ISO 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 and 3200 only. The Osmo + going up or down 1 or 10 ISO points at a time makes the Osmo + work better. D-Log (rumored to come to Osmo Pocket soon) might be good. The Osmo + is 60 mbps is pretty cramped for color grading in post, almost rather shoot in CineLike or other format to get close to how I want the look to be in camera BEFORE encoding. Have you found one method or another working better with your Osmo Pocket? Looks like a fun blast to use.

was there any post color correction denoise or post stabilization. Did you film in the D-Cine or was this straight from the camera. This is a beautiful intro and can't wait to get my hands on one. I personally wont be using it for Vlogging for the selfie side of things but I want to capture my trips overseas with this product. I was just curious on any of the post work you put into this because frankly it looks spectacular and you also probably didnt have the nd filters that will eventually be available.

I didn’t do any post color, denotes, or stabilization just to keep the content authentic. The most I did was slow it down and add the cinema bars. Happy you enjoyed it! I’m just starting to get into tech reviews so you feedback means everything

Audio isn’t a huge concern for me because I’ll probably be using a zoom recorder in addition to a camera.
