First time EVER you dissapointed me Tom. Half of what you said about gopro in term of the wide angle is half truth. You can change from wide angle to linear FOV in a couple of seconds and therefore end up with an exact FOV as the DJI osmo. You can also fix the wide angle in videos or pics in post. The sound recorded of the DJI is terrible and the zoom you using for testing both cameras is really irrelevant for the intended market . The blog advantage of the DJI is non existent. If you have wide angle you are not going to miss anything in your shot and since it connects wifi with your phone you can always see how good or not is your setup before blogging. In terms of the issue with the selfie mode turn capability in the DJI osmo is not a deal breaker for the gopro 7. Also, the pro options of the osmobile pocket are only available if you hookup your phone and use the app. Not much difference from my osmo mobile 2. Timelapse on the osmo pocket only work up to 1080 while gopro 7 is a 4K. Durability and water resistance also is advantage to gopro 7 (I know you said this)The dji osmo pocket is going in the right direction but not there yet. Gopro 7 it is a all out more robust device. I love my DJI drones and my osmobile devices so far but gopro is still my choice for everyday use. Event the colour gradient is better in the gopro. Cheers mate!

I do not view them as comparable. They have two different purposes. Fore me, I have a lot more shot variation with a gimbal as gives me a lot more flexibility as to camera positioning to create better shots. I can fix the gimbal to a set direction and my hand be in any position. With the gopro - it makes shots smooth but you must have the ability to lock your camera position - not always easy holding by hand. For me, this is a great camera for b-roll. The GoPro - great for action stuff. Strap it on and go.

It's also worth comparing with the new Hero7 firmware update which fixes the 'jumping' movement present in some of the shots in this review. In addition, regarding dynamic range, did you switch the GoPro to ProTune mode and turn off GoPro Color? Lastly, there is a GoPro mount compatible waterproof housing coming out for the Osmo Pocket from DJI. Not sure when they are releasing it though.

the lens on the gopro is still wide - correcting the distortion digitally (which is was gopro does obviously) is actually working but you do loose precision in some areas of that image. But in all this honesty, in this video the gopro should've been compared with the linear mode anyway.

I own Both. GoPro’s wins are 4K in Time lapse and stable hyper lapses but everything else goes to the Osmo Pocket if your looking for more cinematic footage. The gimbal is the difference maker. And the fisheye look of the GoPros footage screams “action camera”

GoPro for me. More durable and audio is better. Also if you set to the Linear FOV mode on the GoPro Hero 7, it then has less of the fisheye look to it.

I think both small cameras are excellent. The reason I decided on the Osmo Pocket is that I don’t really do much action sport things that I would need the GoPro for. I mostly take film when needed to record events, family outings, trips, etc. the Osmo Pocket fits me better for those things.

I think GoPro HyperSmooth can't work at 4K, while it obviously works fine with the Osmo Pocket.

One misstatement about the audio... the GoPro has an external 3.5mm connector for a mic. As of the time of writing this comment, the USB-C is NOT available from DJI. Thus, ONLY the GoPro has an external mic solution.

Not sure if you're familiar with the gopro but you can change the FOV to different settings.. some are more fisheye, some less. Set the FOV to Linear and it's pretty much done for you in camera, no fisheye

They deserve it all. I have a Hero 5 and the rear screen stopped working after two months of gentle use. I had an SJCam SJ 6 that was much more robust. However, that being said I did buy the 7 and so far (apart from the fact it eats batteries way too quickly and get's very hot) I like it. However, the dude that runs the company should have stepped down long ago, he is holding them back.

Tom, I am a fan of the Osmo Pocket but for vlogging the wide field of view of the GoPro really gives the viewer a more immersive sense of place. I would love to see DJI or a third party make a light weight rectilinear wide angle adapter that attaches like the soon to be available ND filters. Thanks for your videos

Best comparison of these that I"ve seen. You covered just about everything I wanted to know. Excepting log/protune functions, and more on ability to use external mics (saw the graphic at the end). Honestly they have 2 opposite applications - ones and extreme sports camera it's very strong and robust but lacks the quality of stabilisation that the osmo pocket has and there was no pocket as a lot more professional capabilities about it so they can't really be compared to each other but I love how you go in-depth and show a lot of detail in this video mate it is really good knowing the differences so therefore you can choose which application you want to use it for 👍🏼

Tom's personal preference is the Osmo's narrow FOV, but you can change the GP's FOV to narrow, and it is waterproof, and you said you love the rain, so you can take the gopro anywhere with you, and it's very durable. Too bad, the gp Hero 7 already lost in the beginning.

Tom, you missed the point here with the gopro. Gopro has a linear mode too that eliminates the fisheye effect. That is unavailable for the 4K shooting modes, but 2K has it. Also, can you switch to fisheye on the osmo pocket? Nope. Can you shoot 240 FPS? Nope. Is it water and dust proof out of the box? Nope. Gopro hero 7 had a FW update a few days ago, and it greatly improved the Hypersmooth stabilization.

I've just ordered my Osmo Mobile and am sadly parting with my original Osmo - well not so sadly as the audio was useless and DJI never updated the firmware to give it face tracking. Still I got good use out of it.

GoPro Hero 7 is definitely the better choice. It has so many more features to work with. I use a Hero 6 with its gimbal (which I got free) and that as well seems to work very well and I keep an external mic attached for vlogs and it does great.

I don't like the comparison, I think they are for two different purposes. Both can be used for vlogging. DJI is easier for b-roll as the gimbal allows for far greater flexibility while filming. The gopro is still king of action and the new smoothness makes that footage much more watchable. For me, I was looking at using a smartphone with a Freefly Movi gimbal + moment lenses for a small b-roll kit. Sent it all back and I get my Pocket tomorrow.

Daniel Wisniak you can select an object for the gimbal to focus on (such as the airplane wing) and the Osmo will make sure that it remains in the center of the frame

If the dji was waterproof and more sturdy I'd be all over it. I want the gimbal stabilization, low light quality, moving time lapses, and panoramic shots BUT I wanna be able to accidentally drop it and not break it and take it in the ocean.
