That's because that's what they serve as, mini junctions between each individually connected roadways, and the center roundabout is really just a circular roadway.

If turning right up towards the M1, it's safer when turning from the right hand lane to cut across the mini roundabout, as people are allowed to turn right from the left hand lane, and often don't keep left enough. Having said that, I've kept left enough and vehicles on my right have regularly cut straight across into the left hand lane, nearly hitting me a couple of times.

There has been a similar roundabout at Hatton Cross just inside Heathrow airport for about 10 years. What fun for a foreigner who just picked up a rental car and is driving on the left for the first time.

That's so unfair on foreigners. Planners just don't think! I was at a test centre once and another instructor said that his pupil's job was _designing road junctions!_ One should not be allowed to do that until after years of driving experience; a degree clearly is not good enough. Still, it explains why some junctions are so fuckwitted.

It's relaxing when you're used to it. It's better (imo) than the one in Swindon, which has an extra mini roundabout and only 5 exits, as opposed to the 6 here.

this one looks just like a regular roundabout, but if each of the sides were two way rather than one way... then again, it is the same structure as the Swindon one, which looks more like a blob rather than a ring

Yes, that's right, although there's more too it on most roundabouts (Like what lane for which exit) also indicators are a big factor too. Also, you don't NEED to stop on the lines but usually, you'll have to, plus it's technically the law to stop at them.

This roundabout is awesome!! Most drivers who haven't used it go into 'shock' so its better to go when you can or it will all grind to a halt!!!

@@user-qp8ep1uw2z You're not supposed to enter a roundabout unless your way off it is clear. This means the people on the roundabouts have right of way, you can't enter in front of them. I'm talking about the mini roundabouts here, they're just arranged in a circle.
