Appreciate the comparisons. I have the same three except the ZV-E10 instead of the ZV1. Great work on the info and detail for each camera. I agree the Pocket 3 is the definite winner!

What do yall think for walking videos? I like the creative options of the 360 a lot, but the pocket 3 video looks much better than a crop of the insta360 1 inch. Better to be able use the 360 to highlight points of interest, or have the more immersive video?

I watched your summary three times. you make valid points. I conduct that mental ritual every time I empty out my camera satchels to decide what to repack and take today! Lately I’ve been packing the Pocket (2) and a Sony $200 1080p camcorder, the latter for b-roll. The Sony’s zillion-to-1 zoom catches sports and public performance shots the Pocket and popular Z vlog cameras miss. And I can hand it off to others to gather shots, with no worries. My Insta360 has not been unsheathed since last ski season, sadly. The workflow is fun, but you burn two hours minimum to edit down to a shareable, watchable video. And I always worry about scratching those bug-eye lenses.
@CharlieVN11 ай бұрын
lol, I'm also a part of the camcorder crew, but the image quality is a bit too low for my liking, and any larger sensor version gets massive quick. I think a modernized zv1/rx100 m7 + pocket 3 would be an amazing combo. The RX100 m7 can be an amazing small camera with killer reach and better stabilization than the zv1.

Another good comparison! I have a very similar set-up, only difference being I have the RX100 VII. Your finding echo mine, love that with the Insta360 I don't have to point specifically and I get very interesting shots but yes post is time consuming. I have a trip coming up and likely leaning heavily on the Pocket 3. Thanks again! Enjoy the channel!

I would prefer the rx100 7 over the zv1, had mine stolen, prices locally are like double for the rx100 7. It is an amazing camera. Sony should do a refresh.

I use the ZV1 on a Crane M2 Gimbal, mainly because I already had it. I screw on the Sony remote tripod on the bottom of the gimbal, and then I can zoom and turn record on and off. The main problem with the 1 inch sensor cameras is that they tend to over expose my white dog. So if my dog has to be in the vlog, which is most of the time, I just use my A6600 on an M3 gimbal with a Sony 11mm lens. That combo doesn’t blow out my white dog, and it’s still a small setup, not Pocket 3 small, but small enough. I hang it from a tactical sling when I’m not using it. Sony cameras work a whole lot better on a small gimbal than with the built in stabilizer.

Pocket 3 wins for ease of use. My only concern is the many videos i've seen regarding the screen malfunctioning.

Sony deliberately crippled ZV-1 to protect the old 6000 series up to 6600. Nobody would bug a ZV1 now. (Btw I am a huge zv1 fan not a hater. I own 2 of them).

I'm also a Sony user but I'm getting tired of how they always do this. They never bring software features to older cameras so we have to keep upgrading. Meanwhile DJI are just throwing features from their other products onto the Pocket like Low Light from their drones. I'm much preferring DJI as a company to Sony these days.

The 1” sensor on the pocket 3 is not really 1”. It’s actually not even close to one inch. It measures 0.52″ (13.2mm) on the long side, 0.35″ (8.8mm) on the short side, and 0.63″ (15.9mm) diagonally. Yep we’ve been somewhat fooled by clever marketing, sony does the same thing…

the ZV1 takes a bit longer to figure out the WB, however, they are about on par once it figures it out. I should have mentioned that for the outdoor shots, I have tweaked the colors to match my style of look I prefer, the zv1 and dji were slightly tweaked to match my big cameras.

I have a battery ssving tip i think they should implement in FW. When reviewing recordings in the field, i saw that the gimbal is still moving. Its minor, wont save a lot, but why not turn off the gimbal motors when they certainly won't be in use?

@CharlieVN Жыл бұрын
the bag is a dual phone holder, like two "Max" style phones. It was a bit difficult finding a dual regular phone holder, got it for the zve1 v iphone testing to see how I like holding the ssd in the second pocket. The quality is not great, velcro falling apart, should have looked for a magnet version, but it turns out to be fantastic. I can keep a 20K mah battery bank in there, phone, airpods, money, credit cards, and I have exactly 1 peak design end in case I have to leash onto my belt, emergency photo gear 😂. Fits the zv1 or pocket 3 as well, and regarding the pocket 3, been using a lot for static shots, it just depends on your style, a lot of walking shots can get a bit boring, and I like that it can physically move the head while tracking.

your assessment that the Insta360 is the most durable of the bunch is not the case in the real world. It has two very large bulging lenses that are incredibly susceptible to being scratched compared to the other cameras, as the lenses virtually guarantee being the first point contact in any accident situation.. So of all these cameras, the 360 needs to be handled with utmost care. So despite your insistence that it is the most robust, yes technically it is without any moving parts, but in practice, it is probably going to be the first camera to get damaged, if all 3 are handled with the same level of care. That said, if you purchase an accidental damage warranty for it, then yeah go ahead and shoot away and don't worry too much about the lens. you'll only be out of a camera for 1-2 months while it gets repaired. lol. (ps. I am an owner of this camera along with the original, which got damaged within the first year of owning it. I had it in on the supplied monopod and the camera accidently rubbed up against a bathroom stall which burnished a spot in the glass lens. Since then I handle my Insta360 1" like Fabergé egg lol). I would have far more confidence handling the other two cameras, both of which would be able to endure little bumps here and there no problem. So it is far, far, far from being a durable camera. it is the LEAST durable camera of any that I've ever owned. I have a lens protector on it but it messes with the image quality, and is even easier to damage as it is plastic and makes the lens bulge out even more so. It's impact on the image quality these lens protectors cause pretty much makes them less acceptable to use. BTW, Great video. Thanks for sharing.
@CharlieVN5 ай бұрын
my insta360 has a scratched lens, and in that aspect, not very durable, but it technically works. Never got the repair because it's not an option, you really just buy a new top portion for 200 bucks........ zv1 and pocket 3 are kind of fragile devices that you cant simply stuff into pouches, they all have their own flaws, and it's a bit exhausting lol. the 360 can be bike mounted without issue, the zv1 is not practical, and the pocket 3 has a warning about vibrating mounts.

quality is much better for sure on the pocket 3, the only major flaw is that there is no removable battery and on top of that, there's no way to do a restart should you get stuck in a scenario where the camera won't boot. Rare, but possible. For instance, on a phone, they have built in batteries, and when they get stuck, you can hold a combo of buttons to force a reboot. I have not found a combination with the pocket 3.
