Excellent comparison and decision that I had to make. I do fly commercially a lot and appreciate the brighter screen on the RC Pro (which I bought after trying both the RC and the RC Pro). I also make use of the additional programmable buttons on the Pro. The additional weight that seemed to bother you is a non issue for me as I always have my controllers on a lanyard. I also appreciate the higher resolution on the RC Pro. The on-board memory on the Pro is useful also. Yes, it is over-priced (in my opinion), but none of us start flying drones to save money. Part of my rationale is that from what I read is that the Pro will be the "standard" for the next generation of drones (thus possibly a longer lifespan) than the RC. Admittedly, it is an expensive controller. If you can afford it however, I think the Pro is the right choice, but the RC is good too.

I have both of these controllers. I just got the RC Pro in hand yesterday so it is getting it's maiden flight this afternoon. My opinion is that the RC is all a recreational flyer would really need and I use mine with the Mini 3 Pro for hiking and remote/travel work most of the time. The RC Pro is for professional work. It has a much more professional look and features for filming and media handling that seem like they ill be more efficient in the field. We'll see over the next few weeks. Thanks for the video sir. Performance and features absolutely, not cost. I only have the RC Pro as it was bundled with Air2s and for a short period, Dji had this bundle at the beginning of the year. I believe this bundle is discontinued, but for $400 more on top of Air2s flymore price, it was well worth getting. Would I pay $1199. No I wouldn't.

I love the RC Pro. I find it also has better range than the RC. I fly over a large river that has ocean going shipping traffic on it and I find that the RC works great if it's directly pointed at the drone. I'll get 6km full bars but the moment it's remotely not in line with the drone...game over. The RC Pro...allot more forgiving....same thing 6km and i turn say 90 degrees from line of sight...no issue...still full bars.
@BlairAir
@BlairAir Жыл бұрын
Agree on range. Recent FW updates let Mavic 3 fly to an absolutely ridiculous range. Mini 3 Pro also, to a lesser degree. The RM330 has been somewhat unreliable flying Mavic 3. It's better than the original FW that allowed pairing to Mavic 3, but I still don't trust it. Too many lock-ups - most likely not enough RAM to manage Airsense plus the rest.

For those thinking the RC Pro is an investment that will last them longer, that's what I thought when I bought my Smart Controller in 2020. Turns out DJI didn't want to upgrade that and I can't use it on any gen 3 drones. It's a paperweight if I upgrade to the M3P as I planned. I hope the RC Pro lasts longer than one generation for you.

I have ordered the RC Pro because I need the additional communication range. I have four trips scheduled where I will be flying a drone. One is in Iceland where we will be shooting volcanos and glaciers at extreme ranges. The additional cost of the controller is minor compared to what I am paying for the opportunity to shoot in extreme areas.

I bought a DJi Mavic 3 Classic with the regular RC controller. From the get go I disliked the RC controller. It feels cheap, plasticky and toy like. The user interface is slow and laggy, the screen is just ok and it is so light that it lacks any sensation in your hands. Even after 3 months of frequent use, I couldn’t get myself to enjoy the RC controller. The price tag of the DJI RC Pro was a big obstacle for me to overcome however. I finally and hesitantly decided to take the plunge. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Every single dislike I had over the basic RC controller have been addressed. It feels solid, well made, and pro like. The user interface is fast and smooth. The screen is absolutely gorgeous and it offers many useful upgrades over the RC controller. Flying my drone with the RC Pro has been a different experience altogether. It is much more enjoyable and satisfying. I only regret 1 thing; not buying the RC Pro with my drone.

I'm going to go a different direction and wish they would make a RC-N1 Pro. I like to fly using an iPad Pro, with its big 12.9 inch Mini LED display with 1600 nits of peak brightness, or when I'm on the go I have an iphone 14 pro max with 2000 nits peak brightness. It's also a blazing fast processor with no menu lag at all. I'm happy with the RC-N1, it does great. What I need, though, are those two C1 and C2 buttons, the zoom wheel, and separate video/still shutter buttons like the RC has. There are already fantastic accessories like the "LifThor Baldur 2" which attaches the iPad Pro to the RC-N1 with sunscreen and everything. So you can't automatically say the RC-N1 is obsolete. It has capabilities the RC lacks, but I do want those extra buttons.

Excellent comparative overview of the DJI RC and the DJI RC Pro. As a mechanical engineer and owner of an aerial drone photography, videography and inspection company on the side here in Toronto, Canada. I own the DJI RC Pro, Mavic 3,Air 2S and Mini 3 Pro along with the original Mavic Pro Platinum with a DJI Crystal Sky high brightness monitor. The DJI RC Pro is a better investment as is the high-end reference controller for non-enterprise DJI drones, while the DJI RC is the new mid-range controller for all non-enterprise drones. The processor limitations of the DJI RC indicate that it would become obsolete sooner than the DJI RC Pro. The DJI Crystal Sky became obsolete with the introduction of the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom as they introduced Ocusync 2.0 data transmission system, which also required a 64-bit processor. The DJI Crystal Sky monitors have a 32-bit processor and are thus incompatible with any DJI drone that uses Ocusync 2.0 and 3.0+. I still use my DJI Crystal Sky display with my Autel Evo II 8K/Pro as it can run the Autel Explorer software which runs on 32 bit chip architecture. I would be remiss in not mentioning that I use GPC (Go Professional Cases) with all of my drones, for professional client work as well as recreational travelling. The DJI RC along with the Mini 3 Pro is the perfect travel drone, especially in countries that do not have a guest pilot license for international travellers with drones below 250g.
@RayValdezPhotography

You are mentioning if it goes obsolete but the real issue is if they will support in the future for a Mavic 4 or 5. They could just drop support and no give a damn about the consumer. They could make an RC pro 2 for $1500

Strange question…and I may answer it myself. But is there a function to “lock” the controller. Totally understand they may not do this for safety reasons. However I do a lot of climbing and mountaineering and it’s incredibly difficult to be scrambling up something and film without putting the controller in a bag and the sticks moving around even with them unscrewed and spoiling the shot or worse crashing, or leaving it on the ground and having to go back to retrieve it after the shot.

Many people aren’t getting the whole picture with the PRO. If you’re out A LONG WAY from your drone, you’re still getting 1080p/60. This controller also has the FPV stick controls for finer grained controls. The live-streaming function is also going to be insane. I would say bite the bullet and get the PRO because when Mavic 4 comes out you’re all going to want one then. RC is great for the Mavic 3, but I sure as hell won’t be flying the 4 on it when it comes out. RC is great for the money, no doubt about it though.

I’m not currently able to get the RC Pro but I am considering it because of the lag I’m experiencing with the RC, especially when I lose signal or get near that point. I can always buy a shade protector for the screen 📺 so I don’t have to use the highest contrast setting. Contrast kills your battery like crazy. What good is a pro controller with 1000 nits if the battery is going to be dead in a couple hours? The Pro controller is way over priced. Making that controller in China 🇨🇳 probably costs them $20 bucks and they sell it to us saps for $1,200.

I just bought the DJI RC Controller. In my mind the biggest drawback is the lack of ability to install third-party apps, such as AirData or Litchi. Because you have a file browser on the "Pro" you can do it on that device, but not on the "standard" RC Controller. It's a big drawback. You also have to be careful with registering the RC Controller as you won't be able to go back to the N1 controller and get access to those apps via a phone or tablet accessory. The backward compatibility has been removed by DJI. Having said that, there's no way I would spend out all that money on the "Pro" controller. That's just a cash grab by DJI.

Not quite true Darren, within the RC controller you can also gain access to KZbin where you can login to your account, watch videos etc

It’s very fiddly and poor quality. Not dedicated apps etc it’s via the dji help centre which isn’t the best at all. Rc pro wins on this front 👍

Hey, do you know whether the DJI RC honors the DJI Flay App caching settings? does the DJI RC cache Videos like in the old RCN1? I am not referring to screen recording but video caching. Reply

For me it's not about brightness. There is not enough memory in the "RC" (RM330) to install a single app. I use Airdata, UAV Forecast, Phototime (Sun cycles and position) and more. No I don't watch Netflix on the RM510. I also get 20% more range with Mini 3 and Mavic 3. approximately. It also takes higher res screen recordings.. Worth every penny. FYI Every time I flew Mavic 3 with the RM330 I've had lock-ups, and disconnects. It's gotten better but I still have occasional issues.

Battery life is less, around 3 hrs. Hdmi you could connect to a tv/monitor for example and yes you can live stream

Are the physical screen sizes exactly the same (would a screen protector be same) ? I have the Pro (bought when B& H was selling with Air2 at a big discount).. but since it’s now compatible with Air2s I am considering selling and getting the other for the weight (and $) savings.

I have both. I agree with your review all aspect. I really like ergonomic and light weight of RC. RC stick is easier to hold position than RC PRO because of it resistance. Everything else RC Pro is better but it's overpriced.

@@nathanhassani5366 if you can remove the sticks (not sure on yours) but leave them off (if they attach) and move the controls around w/o turning anything on. Question, when I got the Mavic 3 and RC Pro, I got rid of my Air 2. Now I just received a Mini 3 Pro with the RC. I know I can use both controllers with either drone, however,. do you have to take the time to rebind each controller each time you change drones? If so, I think it would be easier and quicker to use each controller with one drone. RC Pro, Mavic 3, RC with the Mini 3 pro, as I got them.

You must bind to keep Flyaway insurance active, plus if it's not bound, I worry about any Care Refresh case you might make. That said, I generally do care refresh for a single year only, though I might make an exception for Mavic 3. Then again, it's $239 USD, so we will see. They gave us 4-5 extra months for early purchasers/pre-orders in late 2021, so I have until Feb/March to decide. Also, there is the annoying 5 flights as "guest" without re-binding to your account 🙄-exactly how many flights a thief would get if they forget to steal your bound controller with the drone, or pick up a lost DJI Drone and try to "adopt" it, lol. FYI I find both drones (Mini 3/Mavic 3) trouble-free with RC Pro (RM510) but often had issues flying Mavic 3 with RC (RM330) I sold my OG Smart Controller and missed flying Air 2 with it, but with Air 2 sold, and all the updates to RM510, custom button combinations galore, I don't miss that SC anymore!

You KZbinrs should start putting pressure to DJI to allow Streaming in the RC controller basic. Is a worthless piece of tech when it comes to streaming. The shame is that lower end controllers have this feature installed. A simple software update will fix that

You mean battery life is much shorter on the RC Pro. The RC has a larger (W) battery and longer run time due to lower clocked CPU in the RC. RC Pro run time 3 hours (5000 watts) - RC non Pro 4 hours runtime 4 Hours (5200 Watt)
