It has great video for a micro drone. I bet the video frame drops would be less with the WiFi range extender. Something like this is appealing to me for remote hiking trips. The technology is getting really good and this year is going to bring a lot of these pocket selfie drones👍🏻

Thanks for the fine review of that little craft...! I'm not a DJI fan, and I don't like depending on wifi controls and a smartphone... This one seemed to be as good as such a configuration could be, maybe?

After the last update I'm noticing fewer dropped frames, but they still need to work on that. Otherwise, this is a good one to pull out for group photos and stuff. At least that's how we use it. That VPS is off the hook too....never seen that on a toy grade without GPS.

I didn't know you had the Tello, that is a near little drone. I love the optical flow positioning system on it. Just wished they would have included some onboard memory so you won't loose frames via the wireless transmission of the video back to your phone. After all, why have a selfie drone if it doesn't take good video. Maybe the Tello 2 will worth getting. Great review Pete.

It's a damn shame about them drop frames. Even an onboard micro sd card dvr would have been perfect. Thank god for screen record function on the new ios update :)

If I didn't have a parrot mambo, I would grab one of these. I have a fpv micro cam with dvr mounted on top of my mambo. I am a bit jealous of the flight time though. Its suppose to work with Bluetooth controllers like Xbox, I wonder if the parrot bluetooth controller would work with it.

I've gotten a mambo too but the one without the controller. You are right about the flight time on the mambo but it charges up quick! I don't have the camera but I do have the cannon and the grabber :) I'll do a review on the mambo soon and I'll also do a follow up on this tello drone with a wifi repeater to see if the drop frames get improved :)

Great review! I know that this an older drone but was thinking about getting it to fly in my house during the long Vermont winters. The only thing that is stopping me is the fact that it doesn’t have an rc controller. I was wondering if you knew of a compatible rc controller that would work with the tello? Or, if you could suggest a comparable drone that comes with a rc controller included?

Thanks! First, you shouldn't buy a drone to fly indoors. But if you must, buy the smallest and the cheapest one you can find. Something that comes with prop guards. If you really like the Tello, they do sell hard remote controllers for it on Amazon.

Just recd mine. Tried some minor indoor flying to get familiar with it. I had a ( heating up ) warning notice pop up and then it shut down. Waited then tried it again. No warning but it did still feel really warm on bottom body. Typical? Does yours get hot?

No, I haven't really flown it indoors but it does get warm. try it outside and see if flying it cools it down :)

Found out from RYZE customer service (they are great at responding quick!)that if it sits "idle" it can get hot - especially if it is on carpet. It needs to have the props spinning to cool it down. First drone (I own) that I have seen do this. Still a bit concerned as "idle" gets it hot. At least it has a shut down system.

Droneworks Camera Action Maybe you need to watch the video again, he had to walk with it just to keep connected and when he lost connection he lost his recording. On a positive note it held position well but there are drones that are cheaper and a little more expensive that can do the same but you can also fly them. Don't kid yourself this is a toy drone.

Eddie Davis I know it's a toy drone' I own one and I use a simple USB WiFi repeater that doubles the range of the little guy . I also own a Dji inspire 1 -p4p mavic pro and just picked up the mavic air so I do understand that it's just a toy grade drone but it's also built better than any of the sub $100 drones I've played around with. My only disappointment is it's not brushless but cost and weight I'm sure was the factor there. Not to mention the long flight time for such a tiny drone this is probably just a beta version. I expect bigger things coming from ryze in the future.
