Dji Spark Downward vision sensors explained! Did you know this?

This is a cool feature that I was experimenting with following across the ground at 1’ with my DJI spark drone! (It works the best between 1’ to 1’6”)
It automatically senses the height and raises itself up if not going to fast and obstacle avoidance sensors are off.
Also did you know why sometimes it reads negative height? How far are you really from the ground?

Hey Jeremiah, I'm the guy who suggested you pick up a small lavalier mike and pin it to your shirt or collar and plug it into your recorder. I forgot to mention, and please don't take this as any kind of a put down at all. I really like your videos and this would help us hear it more evenly and clearly. When it's windy, I finally bought what they call a "dead cat". It's a small hairy cover that you put over your mike. Of course they make them different sizes, but for me it worked much better than a foam cover. I have a wireless lavaliere unit and I bought a very small dead cat top put over the small lavaliere mike and it really works on cutting down that wind noise. Keep up the great videos no matter what mike you use. You're doing a great job. Marc.

I actually just got my lavalier mic today from amazon and have a dead cat wind cover on the way! I should be posting a new video in the next few days using it. Watching this in 2021. Great video very thorough . I've had my Spark for 3yrs now and am still learning. It is a great unit. I envy your location. I live in a small town near a small airport, in flight path of Military air base and a hospital. That limits my practice area.

Brilliant video. I am getting rid of my p4 and mavic platinum. Getting a few smaller ones I've looked at this one and the air and some parrots. I use for photos and fun.

You can also turn the sensors off in the settings menu, and yes it does turn the bottom sensors off too i have done my test super low over water!! Try tgat bt going to the settings menu and cut all of the obstacle avoidance sensors off and then fly its amazing cause with them off you can get killer shots low over water and rising up out of the water whioe doing a spiral pullback it looks amazing!! Specially if theres a watsr fountian or your close to some trees!! Just try it!!! Oh and Thanks for the video i subscribed and liked!!

@@JeremiahMcintosh you know when you go to the settings where you can manually set your homepoint the little sideways symbol under it directly under it click it and turn the very top one off it will turn off all the sensors the avoidance sensors downward facing sensors and i have tested this theory super low over water and with them on low over water the drone was going all over tge place, turned em all off and it hekd its place perfectly!!! Also if you cut your obstacle avoidance off you can get up to 13mph thats with the gps still on, if you turn the sensors back on you will only get about 6mph!! I dont know of you knew any of this but it really helps you only need those sensoors on when your down in a crowded area like lots of trees stuff like that!! Please come to my channel im just getting mine up and going i got some killer footage i just haven't loaded on youtube yet, they will be posted soon!!

GREAT JOB SIR.... question for ya.... Is there any way to completely shut OFF... the vision sensor on the bottom of the Spark?? because sometimes when your flying in some fog the sensor gets confused and thinks its close to the ground, and wont let you lower your altitude... tks. in advance. Joey.

Thank you!....No sir I don’t believe there is a way to disable them on the Spark and you want to be very cautious when this happens so the drone doesn’t try to land on the fog and fall from the sky!😩

Vijai Jayawanth the one in the middle on the bottom with the glass is a small camera that is used for the precision landing.

Jeremiah, I like your videos very much. This one about the elevations is very interesting. My question is how do you get the ground vision sensors to work? I can only get the "H" in front of the elevation. And I can't get the terrain following thing to work in any mode. I am using the Android Galaxy S9.

bill anderson as far as I know you cannot turn them on or off. When you get below 20’ It should automatically start using the vision sensors underneath and the h should disappear. Not sure if it matters on the phone you have but I use an iPhone and iPad with mine.

I have the same issue,I use a galaxy s9 once I refreshed the software and that fixed the issue, but now the problem arose again and I down grade the software will check if that fix that annoying issue.

Great useful info. I tried active track off of a cliff. Height went negative and wouldn't work. It probably would work if I had gotten lower towards the beach to get the downward sensor activated! SUBSCRIBED!

Could it be possible that the prop wash caused ground effect is causing the spark to "track" the rising slope when the obstacle avoidance sensors are off? It's not really behaving like the terrain following mode of TaptoFly. Just a thought.

can i fly my spark over the water with disabling the obstacle avoidance? i see some error or fly away some of dji spark over the water, because i read on the comment section in youtube that all kinds of drone should turn of vps when flying over the water to avoid fly away or lading in the water.

To be honest I’ve never flown mine over water but I do know that fog can impact the sensors making it think it’s close to The ground and want to land so I would be very cautious and foggy conditions. If you do fly over water I wouldn’t fly Super low.

Any less than a foot and the rotor wash will destabilize the flight. On the air you can disable landing protection and hover even lower but it gets horribly unstable
