Jungle sounds so good on an Amiga

Probably because a lot of the well-known original anthems from back in the day were made with them in the early days. Aphrodite, Zinc, and Omni Trio for sure... Possibly Nookie as well? Plus countless other early-mid 90s producers. Even big names in the house music scene like Richard Earnshaw (Duffnote), Rob Hayes (Audio Honey), and Sandy Rivera started their musical journeys with Soundtracker or OctaMED!

Cool setup! Never imagined something like this, but live mixing with trackers could present some extra benefits, compared to mixing pre-recorded songs. For example, possibility of using a computer as synth / drum machine in real time, in addition to using it as player.

Awesome mix and tunes ! I like that with the limitations of protracker on the amiga we get raw sounds not drowned in delay / reverb / other effects. This forces the artist to create interesting edits without simply slapping effects and automations ! I assume that doing a tune on protracker requires a lot of sample prep tough, mostly done on a more recent computer...
@SiGoesRetro2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking it out ❤️ Yeah it depends on what you’re trying to recreate, if you’ve got a sample most of the time you can get away with just a bit of eq & adding things like delay etc. The worst bit is combining sounds to try and get more things into 4 channels, takes a bit of time but it’s all good fun!
@antismap2 жыл бұрын
@@SiGoesRetro The issue that I often have with modern daw workflow is that I end up spending a lot of time tweaking eqs or compressors, making it more like an engineering exercise rather than focusing on composition. Those old trackers don't let you lose your time on those things !

Such a great set! I'm wondering if this setup will be viable in a professional venue setting? Is the audio output of Amiga good enough to be played on a high-power audio system? Also, is it easy to convert mp3 or other modern music formats into .mod? Thanks!
@SiGoesRetro Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate! Yeah this setup in big venues has been done, it sounds great. It’s difficult to just convert a normal song into a mod because of the sound quality and memory limitations of the Amiga, so the best way to do it is to recreate the song on the Amiga in tracker software, using original samples as best you can, which is what I do!

Wait a minute, that's not the Amigas your running the audii files ON is it?.. Amigas have drastically small sample length/audio file length capabilities.. Are you using the Amigas to trigger those two devices that have the actual (pre-mixed full length) song files on them, the small screens devises above each computer?.. i could be wrong but i remember amiga being used by London Electricity before he went to London one time at my friend's flat when he was about to start out in jungle and the actual sound file storage on it was tiny, like just a few seconds you could chop up etc not minutes long files
@SiGoesRetro Жыл бұрын
Everything you’re seeing and hearing is coming out of the Amiga computers, the devices above are just 7” monitor screens. The Amiga 1200 has around 2MB of memory which can be used for sample time, that’s more than enough for 8bit jungle. The Akai S900 sampler had less than half of this!
