How is he able to get so many different sounds and instruments playing together so well? Is it the mix?

He uses his musical knowledge, talent and trained ear to pick the right sonic layers when composing, which in turn makes it a lot easier to mix. I imagine he does think about what sounds and notes he’s using to some extent, but probably a lot of it comes natural to him. This kind of skill only comes through a lot of learning & sheer trial and error = a lot of hours put in!
