DJ Rick Web Great video! Just wondering if you are able to run your ADJ Element Hex’s off of Show Xpress. Does Show Xpress offer wifly? I’m currently using Airstream Bridge, but considering switching to Show Xpress

Don’t forget you can also use a DMX splitter which means you don’t have cable daisy chain from 1 light to the next. This will save on cable especially if he lights are in very different ends of a room.

Joe has awesome basic videos for ADJ Bridge, wish he did a followup on the pro app too, that introduced the master dimmer and listening to tempo feature.

@DJRickWeb5 жыл бұрын
Difficulty level is equal. Show Express offers full control of your lights and can be used with both mobile style fixtures and bigger production lights. Show Express requires a seprate laptop. Sound switch is a little hard to program in my opinion. Not near as much control. Uses your same laptop you DJ with. Sound switch more or less runs itself and does a decent job of matching music tempo. Show Express needs an operator but benefit is the operator can match tempo and energy perfectly.

To prevent mixing DMX and audio gear the official standard specified 5 pin XLR connectors and 120 Ohm balanced shielded cable (RS-485 DATA cable), but the connectors were about $12 each, so cheap common 3 pin was substituted which is where DMX gets mixed with audio cables. DMX is a data standard. XLR is a connector type. RS-485 is a serial data transmission standard for sending computer data over shielded twisted pair wire. DMX, a data standard specifies using the RS-485 physical cable standard. Using a microphone cable which is not 100% foil shielded and not 120 ohm, and not designed for response to 250,000 HZ is asking for a problem with the lights. Shorter cables are more tolerant with the data, but long cables will be a problem. Don't use mic cables for DMX. Your mic cable may be perfectly flat at 50,000hz, but is it still certified to work with 250KHZ? In addition there is a wiring difference. Good mic cables have the shield connected to the shell of the DMX connectors. The DMX standard forbids this. DMX connector shells are NOT connected to the shell of the connector. The standard requires a "termination" of the cable on the end. Most setups less than 50 feet work OK without it, but long runs won't work reliably without it. Most DJ's without long cable runs simply ignore the requirement for the termination. Noted the video mentioned nothing about the terminations. Probably not using them.

Hey Rick, thanks for the video. I’ve been DMXing a whole bunch of fixtures for a while and I use the ADJ DMX Bridge. Lately moved to using the Doner wireless dongles and I’m experiencing a LOT of lag. Lights do change, follow my scenes and shows but after a extreme long lag. Have tried changing channels on the donners, didn’t help. Since you use them too, have you ever come across it? I’ll have about 7 receivers to 1 transmitter and several receivers have their own wired chains too, at times (depending upon venue)
@DJRickWeb5 жыл бұрын
Try a different channel to run them on. You are probably experiencing interference. You also have to consider with the dmx bridge. There is a delay from the ipad wirelessly to the bridge. And then another delay from the bridge to the lights

Nice, I recently just got into DMX and lighting as well.. using ADJ AIrstream. I have a few of the donner dongles, but what I have done that is much easier is actually install the wireless DMX board into the light this way no need for dongles! makes things much easier.. just plug and play..the boards are $8 on ebay from China and have worked great.. its actually the same boards that chauvet and other ligthing companies use in order to get the wireless DMX
@ludman22995 жыл бұрын
abo7uson cool do you have a link or the specific name for these units? Thanks
Did ADJ upgrade their Show Express? It used to be sold as a starter kit with limited number of DMX channels in one universe. To unlock the rest of the universe, it was another serious chunk of change. As a result I opted for a non propritory interface. It uses the Streaming ACN AKA E1.31 for DMX over Ethernet and out of the box it provides 6 full universes of DMX for about 1/2 the price of Show Express. Due to a non propitiatory solution, I can use any program compatible with Streaming ACN, and send it by WiFi to my router and interface. Do not be afraid to look outside mainstream DMX vendors for gear. The Christmas show hobby folks driving pixels have awesome multi universe gear for cheap prices. With a cheap used wireless router and buying a kit, I have 6 full universes of wireless DMX off my laptop. The software can take inputs from MIDI, DMX (another ACN device, HID devices such as joysticks, transcription footpedals, etc. I can use a Microsoft Flight Simulator joystick to drive my moving beam as a follow spot for events and such. How cool is that? Still want a box of sliders for moving lights? No problem. Software I use is free open source. Very budget friendly with great features including scenes, chases, and Que Lists.

@@ludman2299 Thanks, I hadn't paid much attention to the other entries into the proprietary offerings once I had decided to go with open industry standards. Vendor lock in is OK if it is future proof and reasonably priced for the performance and features. In looking at the offerings the VHS/Betamax/laserdisk/CED video players of multiple incompatible standards are plentiful. Enttec&Lightronics/Chauvet Show Express/ADJ WiFly My DMX/ and Donner wireless appear to be all incompatable with each other and those with a software solution appear to be incompatible with all other wireless systems. To use Show express with a PC, it must use Chauvet lights. To use My DMX, you must use ADJ Wi Fly lights. To mix them requires not using the built in incompatible wireless. Donnor is a good wireless link system and works well between a console or PC with adapter, but it's wireless is again incompatible with any manufcture's wireless lights receivers. I've seen some of the wireless options, but they are incompatible with industry standards the way MP3 is pretty much standard for digital music. For this reason, I use either Artnet or Streaming ACN over Etherent or wireless and use cable or Donnor for linking to the lights. My lighting laptop can run any lighting program that supports either E1.31 or Artnet. This includes Vixen, Madrix, MA2, ChanSys, QLC+, Lightjams, Freestyler (Artnet, waiting for E1.31 upgrade), and others. Works with many phone and tablet applications too. Use a tablet to trigger cue changes on your laptop.
Hi! I was wondering if you could possibly help me on creating a custom profile for a fixture on ShowXpress, I'm having a lot of trouble on setting up the channels on it. :) My light I'm trying to use is a lixada mini gobo moving head.

On each t-bar I will have a Chauvet Wash FX, Chauvet Swarm Wash FX, and a Chauvet mini kinta. I want to run them wirelessly but can I hook one receiver into one light on the t-bar and link the other ones together? Or do I have to put a reciever into each light in order to run them wireless DMX? I think you only should need one receiver to recive the signal but wanted to make sure. Thanks for your help.
