@djtechtips iOS and MacOS keep forcing icloud down my throat even though I had jumped through every hoop and flipped every switch, turning it off... I wanted my content stored locally pushed to my iPad through regular cabled syncs, and at every update of iOS, this "feature" kept getting turned on... resulting in me losing all of my built playlists within itunes/music and somehow all of my crates in serato...... the ecosystem removes any sort of granularity or control in favor of what would seem like a clean appearance... it's curated and engineered to get you to pay more for them to handle things like regular backups instead of the individual taking responsibility for it....(Sheep) and then when it breaks, they say, "Oh well, you should have done X-Y or Z, so sorry, buy the latest and greatest, and you won't have these problems... but no guarantees... I've moved on... won't go back if at all possible, and even then, it will be plug in and unplug... dont want to corrupt my hard drives with foolishness

Back in 1995 I started out with a Mac, but realized that so much more was available on PC, so I made the switch. And 30 years later, PC has worked pretty well. No big issues to report.

What a ridiculous premise. DJs should use what works for them. Period. Hard stop. End of story. If you want to use a controller, use a controller. If you want to use the sync button, use the sync button. If you want to advertise on the Knot, do that. If you want to use a laptop with Windows, OF COURSE, you should do that.

I remember when my brother had the Macintosh for making music, it didn’t make sense to me because I used all of the actual hardware etc, and this was in the late 80’s to early 90’s. I had gotten into producing music with PC but always had a problem for some reason until I switched to Mac, my wife converted me to Mac lol and now that I’m also back to DJ’ing it’s Mac. It’s been good to me so I’m good with it. Thanks for the video, very informative.

As a fellow IT tech, I've worked with both Mac and PC as well. Personally, I am very content using a Windows PC. Currently, I have a gaming laptop with an i7 running Windows 11 Pro 64 bit and the most current version of Serato. It originally came with 16 GB and 512 GB of storage. I've upgraded the memory to 64 GB and will be upgrading the SSD to a 2 TB and adding a 4 TB. The points you raise are valid but I'm usually on point with updates of Serato and Windows 11. I have had zero problems with my system freezing, crashing, etc. But the key with Windows is to ensure that the updates (hardware and software) are done before the event.
@djtechtips9 күн бұрын
And that’s why I recommend Mac. You’re an IT tech, so you know what goes into keeping Windows running right. Macs don’t need as much TLC. Thank you for the watch, I really appreciate it.

@@djtechtips My view is that most DJs don't always take the time to ensure the drivers and Windows are updated before the performance. I personally tend to go several days out and even the morning of to make sure I don't get surprised.

Well..my DJ Laptops windows based are only for DJing and never touch the internet. So they are a closed system. They only run VDJ. So I have no concerns about multiple programs and virus issues. Music only gets added by a music only HDD that I transfer music onto from my work PC and which is fully scanned before connecting to my DJ laptop. So it's as close to a closer ecosystem as possible. The never hit the web. At events I use Spotify on my iPad in the unlikely event I need a quick song from the Web. I suppose if someone is using their DJ laptop for other things, which sounds weird to me, then maybe Apple might be better. Or if they are streaming their music, they may be safer from malware and hackers. Performance wise, at this point, Lenovo Think Pads are tanks. Today's performance of even slower processes can handle any DJ software.

@@djtechtipsif paying extortionate amounts of money is what you want to do, then Mac is perfect. If you want a working system where you are the owner of your own hardware, get a PC. @@djtechtips a few years back, maybe. Nowadays Windows is much better. My 2014 machine still runs on the Windows installation of the first day... From Windows 8 to 10 to 11 (ok, unsupported, but bypassed with Rufus). 3 upgrades. No problems. My 2018 machine is reinstalled from the Microsoft ISO, so no vendor crap at all. Also no tuning done for audio or whatever. With Mac "the things Apple allows you to do with a Mac" work. If you want to venture outside of those things you're in for a ride... Also the artificial hurdles they put in place to make it impossible to repair or upgrade the machine you've bought for example. I could get the ram as it's part of the SOC. That has an advantage. But the SSD's that aren't upgradable don't have an excuse. That's pure greed. And Mac OS lacks stuff that drives me crazy as well. The window management is atrocious. You need a separate tool for it to have any. Lol. Whenever I see Apple fanboys shout how much Windows sucks it's because they compare their expensive Mac to the bottom of the barrel crap laptop. If you don't buy cheap crap PC's they also just work.

Not my preference, but another great video and a fair assessment of technology. I've been using Macs since before Steve Jobs came back and the most important thing about the New M1/2/3/4 series chips is that Apple is the only company offing Desktop Level Chips in a Laptop chassis. The M1/2/3/4 Max Chips offer you more than any other option on the PC side. Sure you can get a Beefy mobile CPU (not close to desktop level) and Nvidia Mobile GPU but your battery life will suffer and the trade offs are Mobile lower wattage chips, and they don't look like adult computers. Most PC laptops that compete with the Macbook Pro look like a unicorn vomited a rainbow of RGB lights instead of making the laptop work great. I would rather have a great trackpad than swirling lights that cause seizures. Any PC that looks like it was made for adults will be terribly underpowered compared to the 16 inch Max variant Macbook Pro. Also Core audio is far more stable than any ASIO and the audio/midi setup app in the utilities folder is a game changer for anyone wanting to work with controllers and keyboards.

The M series processors are ridiculous. The fact that the same processor can power a tablet, desktop, and laptop is wild. Windows laptops in general suffer from battery issues. Especially the gaming laptops.

If Rekordbox would be available for Linux, I would kick Windows and Mac to the curb, instantly. Sorry, but Mac hardware is not rugged enough and way overpriced. Everything Apple makes is made to be unnecessarily slim. Macs are not upgradable. Do not even think about repairs. Hackintosh is some kind of a good option, if you have the right hardware and get it running. But they aren't future proof and there are some legal obstacles. This leaves me with Windows for now. Windows 11 works fine, when doing some research on the hardware and how to setup it up properly.
