Repeating myself... Love Geno and he deserves to be on the first PP Unit, but down low. He can't be a guy chasing down pucks or people in his own zone 🤘🤘

Gee DK, here come the comments. Mine too. Good analysis as always. I've always believed in getting the goalie to move around (except for maybe Flower). Sometimes I think the guys are scared to death to give up a shorty because they get ripped a new one.

I'm Canadian and let me tell you the truth, EVERYONE outside Toronto hates the Leafs, their organization, or fans!

Something people arent picking up on is that the slap shot used to make power plays more effective, the slap shot has become almost non existent. Letang has nerve damage in his arm and cant lift his stick all the way, hence why he only takes half clappers. but more so the Pk guys play tighter now and higher on the box not allowing the time to release a full wind up so you have to move your feet more to create time and space instead of just standing around passing waiting for the back door tap in.

The key to 'fixing' the PP has to be Karlsson. He needs to be 'the guy'. Along with Sid naturally. Karlsson can shoot like nobody's business and set up Sid for tips. You need a PP that shoots the puck, plain and simple. That means 4 guys willing and able to fire it from almost any angle - then scramble hard to regain possession. We saw exactly neither last year. And before anyone says McGroarty is a solution to this, watch some tape on RMG on the PP. Pass first mentality that he needs to dump, probably on the WBS top line. Say Crosby, Karlsson, Bunting, Rakell, Glass

Nailed it...when EK is hungry to shoot the puck or play make on the PP things happen....we saw glimpses late last season. Too bad he's incapable of setting Geno up with a decent pass for that Howitzer of a one timer.

The Phil stuff from fans is getting a little annoying. I like to think that we have knowledgeable fans in Pittsburgh, but anyone who knows anything about hockey who saw Phil play hockey in recent years knows he's absolutely done. He's lost more than a step when skating was one of his best attributes, and he's never been a defensive forward. He had a really nice transition game that led to a lot of scoring and some nice possession during those cup years. But he's not a player or person whose game was ever going to age gracefully. He's not a workout warrior or gym rat, in fact he is known for avoiding both as much as possible. It's part of the Kessel folklore (hot dogs and junk food) and an aspect that endears him to some blue-collar Pittsburghers, but it has hindered his longevity. Look at the guys who played long into their careers; they are/were gym rats and nutrition nuts. Crosby is one. Malkin takes care of himself. Chara was always very fit. Bergeron the same. Look at pictures of Gordie Howe at 50 years old - jacked. The list goes on. Phil isn't that guy. Ovi is an exception - the Russian machine just doesn't break, but even he has lost his legs (he still has that great shot, though). Anyway, back to Kessel. He doesn't have the other elements to fuel his game or the mentality for that to happen. And as DK pointed out, he's always butted heads with coaches and staffers wherever he's been. Some of his back-and-forth banter and arguments have been mic'd up over the years and it's pretty rough. Some of the stuff from his time in Boston is wild about him refusing to weigh in or follow the team's diet plans etc. Drinking sodas on the bench, I think. Quite a few different things. Phil the Thrill is done. Let's remember him fondly, but stop pining for his return.

The nucks gave him a workout last year he was puking within like 5 minutes. Like he says he wants to make a comeback but he's not workout. I think if he really worked he'd get a lot of his speed back. But that'll never happen

They just need to pretend it's Jeff Carters last chance to score a goal, and get the puck down low in front of the net. I swear I haven't seen urgency to get the puck to the net like that in the past 2 years. You knew carts was gunna get a goal. Every pass went to him in prime scoring areas with the utmost intent of scoring that last game.
@shawnknudson1393Ай бұрын
Obviously carts is retired, but whoever is infront of the net, just pretend it's their last game and you NEED to get them a goal no matter what.
@johnnythunder196Ай бұрын
made me laugh...so true. too bad they didnt have the same urgency to get Geno 499 & 500 in that meaningless game as it easily could've happened

No the Pirates do not suck. The staff on the other hand is in question. Get a better support staff and watch them thrive. Just my take on that situation.
