PS also agree re Trouba....I don't understand how this guy wins an award, when around the league I'm sure he is the guy that most don't like because he is just over the top dirty. I don't see a lot of hits from him that aren't over the line, and the failure of this league to reprimand him in any way is just mind blowing.

Great insight DK....Even if 2 lines are set up that way, even if not all four lines. I tend to agree with you. Vegas popularized big defensemen, all 6, most of them skated well which was a plus, but they won with 6 d man that were old school big (although not old school in play)....I think you have something with style changes

Let's see Tkachuk do to Kreider what Trouba did to Rodrigues and see what kind of penalty he gets...a major.

DK, I played hockey for 15 years. I was a left winger. 6'2" 225. I played a "physical " game. I was aggressive with my game. BUT......no matter the other team or player in my sights I would never think of injuring someone let alone ending their playing. You can be physical and hit everything in sight but do it the right way. Trouba is definitely out to takes heads. I don't get it. He's doing it the WRONG way. Unfortunately I don't see him learning any kind of lesson with the "player safety" guys in place at the moment. It taints our sport which is disappointing. He's even on a commercial with his mom. Sure don't see it ending anytime soon.

Random question- why did Cody Ceci work so well in Pittsburgh?

A big problem for the Pens is that they are playing western style hockey in the east. Just look at the difference in how hockey is played between stars/Oilers and Rangers/Panthers. They play Sullivan's 'right way' in the west and some other form of hockey in the East. That mix it up scrum in your face hockey being played in the East really gets under the Pens skin and they dont have a way to counter it. Also a big problem w. the pens not being able to play the right way is that they are now too old to play the hockey fast like they used to. So they play their hockey 'cute' these days.

The Pens need to surround Malkin and Letang with speed to offset their decline in it. Crosby is still quick enough but and elite winger on his side, ie Marner or someone else, would bump down that side so hence improve each 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lines. Think of Connor on 3rd line with Eller?? We need more scoring from bottom 6 while improving 1st line by picking up 1 player. And Conned's speed on 3rd line would be fantastic!

going to have to disagree we beat every good team last season from around the league dallas maybe the exception next year will be even more dominant just wait and see

Sooo, help me understand...you are saying..become a BIGGER, TUFFER. MEANER kind of team...but we don't have ANY of those players..on our lineup..in our farm team..or would be arriving any time soon!!!..So where does that leave us???

He said that it would not be the penguins that did it. And they won’t because of a lot of reasons including the ones you listed.

You need players skilled at physical play and willing to do it in order to make that sort of change. Some may wonder if greater societal trends, or at least trends in youth hockey, might have eliminated the pool of talent for that sort of physical play over the last fifteen or so years.

Sarros as head of player safety is all anyone needs to know. It makes zero fucking sense.
