As someone who owns an FRS in the US and seeing how people build their 86's here... It's a completely different community from the guys in Japan, however, I love the more simple/clean build Tsuchiya and Orido have on their 86's.

The drift King and the car set up king! 👑 It’s so nice to see pro drivers appreciate these cars! They get so little love by western journalists and it’s a travesty. These little cars should be raved about, the fact that they’re available in the US and so damn good.
@ToreDL872 жыл бұрын
A lot of the reason is the GT86's imported in the West suffers engine explosion (hole through block and the whole shebbang) for absolutely no reason. I don't understand why. A friend of mine had a bone stock GT86, he is a very relaxed and mature driver and mechanic that never drives hard with cold engine, uses better quality oil than most of the guys that flog their GT86's in Japan, very fastidious on oil change and oil filter and other conditions and factors, barely ever floors the throttle and when he does it's with mature care and joy rather than pel mell attitude, he always makes sure engine is in operating temperatures. And in spite of all that, he experienced two 2 engine blows in his GT86, the first one on his way back home from work just driving completely normally, hole through block, no prior warning, everything normal, then BOFF, engine didn't even have 50000km on it, wasn't even driven in. Then he brought it up with Toyota and sent pic of hole through engine block, and Toyota said to check oil dip stick lol. But he was able to finally convince them to swap engine on warranty, and a few months later that engine exploded as well. He never was able to put 100000km on any of the two engines, the car never saw a single trackday, and Toyota kept giving him grief, so when he had them change engine again, he sold the car and decided not to have anything to do with Toyota ever again. For some reason they just explode, and to stop it from happening you have to install aftermarket rods and pistons, very very expensive, whereas in Japan they flog stock cars for years and no issues.

@@ToreDL87 That's insane! I drift with many GT86 drivers here in Michigan and I've absolutely never heard of that. I know someone with an engine with over 250k miles (400k km) with zero issues, and a good several people who track 150k+ mile engines. The FA20 is supposed to be fairly bulletproof in terms of reliability. Your friend may have just gotten astronomically unlucky in getting 2 lemon engines.
@m0rb1d432 жыл бұрын
@@ralkia Over here in The Netherlands plenty of engines have blown aswell. Most blow because of the pickup tube getting blocked from using to much sealant when the engines are taken apart for the recall. But there have also been people like ToreDL87's friend that have blown up an engine. People also seem to destroy gearboxes when using the cars on track, which has also happened on multiple 86's on Hot Version.

@x808drifter3 жыл бұрын
It is literally an expensive fuse swap kit for the fuses in the engine bay and under the dash and they are full of shit. If putting in new fuses wakes the car up, there was something wrong with the fuses already in the car. Just like the grounding kits they also sometimes shill. Lots of the big name manufactures and racers in Japan will say some shit to sell useless car mods for a little money. Thankfully its a few things here and there and not everything.
