This one of my favorite effects sequences I love to watch in slo-mo. Not only does its complexity and choreography amaze me, but also the sense of speed. That one of things that impressed me about Jedi as grew to understand vfx more. A lot of the scenes where the fights zip through obstacles on the Death Star surface feature motion blur on the ships that was preserved in the optical compositing process. You didn't see any matte lines on the edges. The artistic ingenuity that went into things like this still amaze me even now.

Jedi is still the pinnacle of VFX in my eyes (Stan Winston's practical effects on Jurassic Park come close!)

The problem is, it's hard to know all VFX scenes in all movies. Because if you see a VFX scene that is well done, it might be possible, that you won't notice that VFX was used for that scene.

@@OpenGL4ever True. I never realised how much greenscreen was used in Zodiac, until I watched a making of video. I think what the OP meant was VFX for things that are not real. Spaceships, monsters, flying people, that kind of stuff. My pinnacle of VFX is Blade Runner and Aliens for example.

1:17 Anyone else got really nervous when he kept opening the boxes? Like he'd take out one roll and forget where it came from? Or just drop one by accident?

It's awful to think most of these talented people became redundant when computers arrived.

There was a lot of frustration and grief, but a good portion of artists did the transition to digital and they greatly profited from their experience with physical/optical work, especially the model makers and compositors.

Yeah, me too. I can only see two Tie Fighters clipping through the Falcon :/

What’s weird is that that’s not the mistake. The mistake is that you can see the armature attached to the tie fighters on the right on the screen just when the clip begins. They haven’t been garbage matted out
