Watch and learn as I build my DK2 Aluminium Cargo Carrier. Learn what is good and what could be improved. It was easier to build than I thought; you can do this too.

Thank you. Excellent. Two things: 1), seems like a PITA to put together 2), I wish it had an aluminum mesh bottom (floor). Those holes are so big on the bottom. Better than steel, for rust &!weight’s sake

Awesome video. Please let us know when you solved the lock issue. I'm in the same boat with how to go about locking it. Thnx

There seems to be only three options on the lock issue. One, do nothing. Two, drill the threads out with a 5/8" bit. Three, drill a larger hole in the end of the threaded locking pin big enough to hold a padlock. If you do option two you will need a hitch stabilizer to keep the carrier from bouncing. If you go with option three you need to understand that a padlock is easily broken open. I am eventually going with option two, the only thing that stops me is, I don't have a 5/8" drill bit. If you think of a different option let us know, I am open to suggestions. Thanks for your comment.

Option 4: lock tight the bolt and really crank it down

@@mrnsusa You are right and that what I am doing. You will need a socket and breaker bar to take mine off. Thanks for the comment.

problem solved: with a 1/2 inch hitch lock then add a stainless 5/8 OD and 1/2 ID spacer (sold at your local hardware) which can be 1" or 1 1/2" or 2" in length depending on the length of your 1/2" hitch lock - and if you want to add some stainless washers and rubber o-rings on both ends just to add some protection of not having rain/water entering the hitch... hope this helps.

Great job man. The instructions that came packed with this were terrible. Looking forward to the modifications you make. Did you end up drilling through the thread on where the lock/hitch pin goes through?

I will be making the mod video later this week; waiting for the parts to come in. No I haven't yet drilled out the threads. Just a matter of time. Hey man, thanks for watching and your comment.

I bought mine from a company call MaxxHaul bit its essentially the same rack. One thing tho.. the bars that hold the top and bottom together go on the inside of the rack not on the outside. They rest on the inside rail and become structural supports.
@cuddysark18 ай бұрын
You are correct, they go on the inside of the frame. This would add to the strength. I am not going to change mine because I have added a 3/16 plywood floor which adds some strength and keeps water out when it rains. I have tried to rack mine to see if I need to change the supports to the inside, I can't so I am not going to worry about it. Thanks for the correction.

@@cuddysark1 I thought about adding a floor also but thought it might lead to water puddling. I'm going to mount a large storage box to mine to keep things dry. And I understand your mod on the support bars. If it works then all is good!

@@ChefDuane I coated my with exterior oil base paint, about 3 coats hopefully that will keep it dry.

Can the undercarriage go into hitch receiver without that foldable arm? I'd like to use a hitch adapter for higher ground clearance. With the foldable arm on, it would be too long.
@cuddysark1 Жыл бұрын
The undercarriage and the arm are the same size. Not sure if you take the arm off if the undercarriage would be long enough for your application. If it is it should fit just fine.

@@cuddysark1 Thank you Sir for your kind reply. If 3 locking pins are the same size 5/8", I can manage to use this 10"rise/drop adapter ( etrailer, Hitch-Adapters, Blue-Ox, BX88132 ) without that foldable arm. If 2 pin holes on undercarriage are both over 2.5" away from the carrier(from hole center to carriage edge), life is even better.

Can you assemble it as a flat deck? I’ve got a large spare tire.
@cuddysark13 жыл бұрын
You do not have to assemble the sides. It would work well as a flat deck. However, there isn't much of a deck. I added a platform to mine, see this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3W7eGhsaNtmY5I thanks for watching and good luck with your carrier.
