She got hate for it and instead of defending him or ignoring the hate she said she WAS a fan not IS a fan just to try and please or stop the hate. That's what it seems like anyways.

My entire family chuckled about Jin being sack carried by Ashton. I didn’t realize it could be an issue at all since the guys seemed to have fun. Yes Jinnie was embarrassed but I think this was a good skit to include everyone without the language barrier being a problem. Should Ashton not have done that because they didn’t know each other or because it was on TV? I think so long as they had fun and were treated well and made them comfortable as Tae and Hobi both said in the Vlive right after the show was aired, we should just enjoy bangtan making friends. Ashtons a good guy, and he was willing to treat bangtan as just another group of guys in a game of hide and seek. No awkwardness or rudeness, just laughs. But that’s just my humble opinion.

When BTS appeared on a Korean show Running Men they were also flung aroung by the cast members and I don't remember anyone complaining over that. I would be a bit taken aback too if sbd picked me up and carried me like that but at the end of the day the only person who can say if they were uncomfortable or not is Jin and only Jin. James Corden:"Ashton bring the boys back here one by one" Ashton: "Once I find them I have to bring them back?" James: "You find one, you bring them back. First one to find 4 wins" So Ashton being the funny jokester he is, took that literally and "brought" back Jimin and Jin. Even with Jungkook, he full bear-hug grabbed him to bring him back. At least that's the way I interpreted it. No ill intent whatsoever, just Ashton being himself and having fun with the boys.

With the Ashton and Jin thing, as Korean American, I was torn. On the one hand, I could see it as being a bit too familiar, because Asians bow in greeting for a reason. We don't welcome strangers touching us. But, on the other hand, having grown up in the US, I can understand the context in that it was simply western friendliness and good-natured guy stuff. As far as Jin goes, I imagine he was a bit embarrassed, but he seemed to understand the friendly intent and smiled while it was going on, just as Jimin did when Ashton carried him like a giant plushy (which I thought was adorable). Even in western society, it's not necessarily MEANT to embarrass, it's just a side effect. It's just like playing a friendly joke on someone, meant for a laugh and smiles, no real ill intent behind it, but the person being poked isn't the most comfortable. But everyone is aware of the lighthearted intention, so no one is really upset. Personally, I think Ashton is a closet ARMY and was thrilled for a chance to hang out and play with the boys.

It's very common for any English speaker to say "never better" instead of "I've never been better". V used to properly. The thing with Jin and Ashton is also a very common level of playfulness for American talk shows. Shaquille O'neal once lifted tiny as Kevin Hart over his head on national TV. Trust me BigHit would be suing Ashton and James Cordan if they felt Jin had been wronged in any way. So if BigHit and Jin are okay with it then the opinions of others is truly irrelevant. It would be a stupid move to sue James Corden or Ashton for Bighit. They would lose a majority of their advertisement and there would be another culture clash with the western, and there would be criticism to BTS that they would sue by getting physically carried. “Never better” is slang, used sarcastically, and often said here rather than using an entire sentence. Phrase has been around long before Harry Potter. Tae’s phrase is also used in a joking manner here. I found it clever from an American point of view. Jin’s reaction when found made me laugh. As for Ashton carrying him, I am sure Ashton did not know a Korean would be so uncomfortable with what was considered a joke here. As someone else wrote, Ashton was pretending that James’s instruction to “bring them back “ literally meant to physically bring them back.

When Ashton carried Jin back to seat, he put Jin down right on the chair spot, then Ashton even bended down to check if Jin is alright because he quickly noticed Jin's red face and felt it might scared Jin a little bit, so he patted gently on Jin's shoulder for few times. TBH I didn't see any uncomfortable behaviors in that scene because everyone knows it's for the show and Ashton showed full respect and care to all BTS members. Even Ashton did the similar action to Jimin at first and after he put Jimin down he checked on Jimin's status as well. It might have potential dangerous in this game because it's a whole studio interaction and don't we need to be thankful and appreciated to James and Ashton who protects our boys safety first??? I don't understand where are those "uncomfortable" come from lol.

Like, I can see why ppl, espcially asians, may be uncomfortable because of the cultural diferences and the western stereotype that often emasculates asian men due to their size difference. Picking them up like that could definitely be seen as offensive. However, being an american I know that to break up awkwardness around strangers, we dont just cross boundaries, but SMASH through them to lighten up the atmosphere. I know as an american he didnt mean any harm, I found it funny too, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't think it was gonna upset some ppl.
@yinggu2873
@yinggu2873 4 жыл бұрын
cim sim I understand your point on culture differences, but ppl are pinking out the idea of “ a western muscle guy carried Asian emasculated guy” and put culture differences as a title of it. Ashton did this to other western guests as well before, and that won’t be a problem at all because they’re all “western”. Using this to attack somebody is unfair to both Ashton and BTS, why and how ppl would take “first impressions are the strongest” on BTS that they look small and emasculated? Why and how ppl have the rights to put these labels on them tho?
@cimsim597
@cimsim597 4 жыл бұрын
@@yinggu2873 .....what are you talking about? lol. I see the word "western" triggered you for some reason. who did I label? I never "labeled" anyone as "western" so Im confused as to why you brought that up 3 times in reference to humans. You just misconstrued the words and labeled everyone lmao. I said there is a WESTERN STEREOTYPE as in a STEREOTYPE that exists in the WEST. There IS a stereotype that exists in the part of the world called the WESTERN part of the world (which essentially means europe and america) that asian men are not as masculine. This stereotype is often seen in many forms such as patronizing asian men for differences in their physical build or de-aging them. I'm positive (eastern) asian ppl in are aware and offended by this stereotype. Therefore an action such as picking these grown men up without knowing them is a bit disrespectful in their culture (but understandably, when in rome...) AND plays into the stereotype that often de-ages them and patronizes their different build. As an american who knows how americans are...I KNOW Ashton wasnt TRYING to offend them or anyone else. I'm just saying, I can see why ppl are uncomfortable by the action. Like think about it... why did most ppl find it cute? Why did ppl not react much with jimin, but did with jin? Its very simple. I dont agree with ppl coming for Ashton's neck, but I see how his action could unintentionally made some uncomfortable. Especially if they have experienced ppl acting in accordance to this stereotype, as I guess danny and david might have.

Noo, for iKONICs hashtags have significance tbh! YGE already tried to steal Hanbin's songs without saying it's his songs (for Eun Jiwon's album) but iKONICs recognised the songs (as Hanbin shared the demos with fans before) and it was wild trending #CreditHanbin worldwide. After that YG admitted 2 songs were his and credited him in KOMCA rightfully. And now they had to release an explanation and they also credited him in poster cuz they were scared iKONICs would riot again xD So it's a win! At least somehow we can get YGE to listen... But with that explanation they also threw other #iKON members under the bus, not just B.I, as they said "we couldn't make new songs in 8 months" (yeah, not like they have 3 other songwriters/composers in the group?? but they preferred adding dates to their tour so members weren't even in Korea, and they DID write new songs but YGE released them unofficially in January, I still can't understand what's their strategy...) iKONICs were also furious as it seems like other members were told to be useless. And brought attention about scandal. Nice promo for a comeback, yeah?

"It originates from Harry Potter" I'm dying. "Never better" and "Not in my vocabulary" are common Western colloquialisms that have been around for decades. All sayings have an origin, but these are definitely well before the 21st century. The Ashton Kutcher playing around is common on our talk shows at least but it was kind of awkward since they didn't know each other, they hadn't even been introduced but Jin took it in stride. When learning a new language people have to remember that there is the grammatically correct way of speaking, then there's how locals actually use it in conversation (colloquially ((big words lol))). I'm surprised and proud at how Hobi and V both responded and used English how a native speaker would. It was cute because they were saying what we normally say. This is obnoxiously long, sorry.

Okay, so saying something isn't "in your vocabulary" is completely correct. Your vocabulary is the body of words you use in your language. It's a common saying in the US, though it might not be considered modern slang. Same with "never better". I was actually very impressed with V's use of the former, since that's a difficult word to say, and he likely consulted others (possibly Namjoon) before coming up with it. But yeah, can we talk about Hobi's English, because WOW I've been so impressed wit him. He just keeps getting better and better and is clearly becoming a lot more comfortable with answering questions off the cuff.

Actually, in America, if someone were to answer a question with "Never better," it would be clearly understood and not sound like a foreigner speaking. In fact, I've heard it numerous times. I was born in America and English is my mother language. In regular conversations, we don't always speak in complete sentences & grammar isn't that big of a deal--that judgment is done more by people who think they are above other people. It's a snooty thing to correct someone else's grammar, unless they are your child or student. Friends do it to help each other, but "Never better" is completely right--in real life. I just wanted to let people who are learning American English know this. My Korean language partners ask me about these strange uses of grammar we use in our everyday conversations & I'm just starting to learn those used in Korean conversations. I'm still a beginner in Korean. (Why can't I learn faster?!) Thank you for your videos, guys! You're helping me to better understand the country I want to visit. People were happy and excited about him using the phrase and there were quirky conversations on whether it is grammatically right or not. I simply brought those conversations to the table. Note that not all English users are American or British. Just for instance, 125 million speak English only in India and 100 million in the Philippines. So I can understand that grammar could be discussed about for people who aren't familiar with slang or expressions :)

I know you're not trying to call V out for poor English skills or anything, but arguing that the expression isn't grammatically correct is just pretty pedantic and pointless tbh. Yeah, sure, it isn't technically the proper way to phrase it, academically speaking, but nobody cares. This was a casual situation, not an academic one, and he spoke English perfectly well, even if it was only a couple of expressions. There's nothing grammatically incorrect about what he said, given the context. Both phrases are legit English that anyone in the Western hemisphere might say. Also, similar expressions exist in all sorts of languages and cultures around the world.

I mean I've been using "Never better" for decades... long before Harry Potter, bcos obviously it's a common phrase in a conversation. Just like, if somebody greets you, "Hi, morning!" and you answer, "Morning!" - this is perfectly fine. Nobody expects you to say, "Hi, good morning to you too!" I mean, who speak a language in the "proper well-structured form" with friends? Ppl might think you're weird, unless you are giving a speech in a formal event 😅.

And we were also very worried about him being credited or not because this summer YGE released 2 of his songs on Eun Ji Won's album without any credit, thankfully Hanbin had shared one of the demos on vlive before and ikonics called YGE out, which resulted in him being credited on KOMCA (3 months later). I didn't realize that everything that happened with BTS on James Cordon was a big deal?? Tae's English was correct and it trended because US fans were happy and surprised that he spoke English. "Never Better" and "That's not in my vocabulary" are correct phrases and they're used often. Also, in America, being picked up like what Ashton did to Jin isn't necessarily a bad thing? I mean it's not something that someone would do to someone they don't know but because the show had a comfortable setting I imagine it was just spur of the moment and there wasn't any ill intent behind it. Most US fans thought it was hilarious which I think was what Ashton was going for because he's a funny guy.

I think this show was the most fun BTS has had on American Talk shows. They weren't given questions they've heard a hundred times, the album promo was short, sweet and to the point. James made a point to try and include others from the group in the convo apart from RM and was comfortable with them during breaks. The stage set up was absolutely gorgeous and he really went in to hug and dance with the group after the performance. The hide and seek was my favourite part. Ashton who hasn't really been vocal about where he stands regarding kpop was a good sport and seemed to really enjoy the game and treated the guys just as he would've treated his close friends. The way he carried Jimin like a giant teddy bear was so cute! If Jimin was uncomfortable he would've pushed himself up and onto his feet and Ashton would've read that in his body language. Ashton also made sure Jimin was ok on the stool before running off to catch someone else. I think the reason he carried Jin was because he was lagging behind in the game and he needed to get to the stage faster. He would've done that with any of his friends and it's unfair on him to expect him to understand that some Koreans would be uncomfortable with that when he was just being a good sport and having fun. Jin too seemed to understand that the carrying was part of the game and there was no ill intent behind that at all. Overall they had a lot of fun on stage and it was really nice to see the members included in the activities and RM not being solely a translator feeling obligated to allow the other members to speak and translating it. Everyone had fun. They were in America and they seemed to fully understand and accept that the culture there is about open friendliness and a lot of hugging and they went with it which I respect and whenever American artists visit Korea they should be just as mindful of their respectful culture and mannerisms and act accordingly. But seriously let's just talk about the most important thing, If Namjoon hadn't pointed him out they would've left Jungkook as part of the crew! That was absolute genius and I'm truly terrified of JK's ability to find the perfect hiding spot in plain sight in under 30 seconds! #RunBTS has trained him well.

"Never better" and "It's not in my vocabulary" are both commonly used terms. Usually, there are two cases when someone would say "Never better": 1. If they are actually doing very well 2. If they are being sarcastic about doing fine. I often hear "Never better" being used in the second way more so than the first, but both often occur. Also, I think that it was trending because we don't often hear V, or any member other than RM, on English TV shows, speak in English so it was a really big deal. I personally thought all the boys did a great job and that J-Hope's English was phenomenal! Also, the thing with Jin I didn't think much of it because it is common to play around by picking people up. I don't know the nature of Jin and Ashton's relationship but it was definitely not meant to be disrespectful or even to assert dominance.

About the Chris Brown thing- I'd like to point out that he has been charged with several other recorded incidents of abuse/domestic violence against different women, all of which have happened since Rihanna (in which he beat her nearly to death). So it's a little bit of a big deal that Ailee took a picture with him, and as to her not knowing that that happened, I'm not sure if that's true because you didn't have to watch the news to find that out. I didn't watch the news as a kid and I still heard about it when it happened...

V said they felt comfortable, but that wasn't Jimin or Jin speaking. If they had felt uncomfortable they probably wouldn't tell the public in fear that Army would go after Kutcher. I'm sure they understood Kutcher meant no harm, but that doesn't mean they enjoyed being manhandled. I felt uncomfortable watching it, and embarrassed for them. I thought Jin looked embarrassed covering his face and his ears were red. It was funny enough when Kutcher startled Jin, he didn't have to do more.

@@witchgroup I heard him laughing. Laughing isn't always associated with joy. I sometimes laugh when I'm nervous and uncomfortable, to cover up the fact that I'm nervous and uncomfortable. I don't think Kutcher was purposefully trying to make anyone feel bad. I don't think he is a bad person. I think he wasn't thinking about anything besides getting a laugh. He did it for a laugh, he did it for tv. If it was a good friend of his and that's how they behave with eachother it would be different. If it was a female group say Mamamoo, and he threw Hwasa over her shoulder and carried her like that people would not be laughing and thanking him for doing that to her, they would be more concerned about how she felt. I am a female, and I think both men and women should be treated with dignity and respect. I thought it was a careless act that made me feel uncomfortable for him.

The Chris Brown/Ailee incident brings up an interesting debate that we've been having; which is, "can you separate the art from the artist?". Personally, there are some people I can and some people I can't. For something like a movie, where many people are involved (writers, directors, actors) and let's say one person does something awful (TJ Miller, for a real life example). Should you separate the fact that you don't like TJ Miller and support the Deadpool movies which were filmed before the scandal? Verses something like music, which also has many people involved (producers, composers, musicians, sound engineers) but at the end of the day, one artist's name is on it. Me personally, I cannot separate Chris Brown from his art. Music is collaborative, but at the end of the day, it's his messages. And I choose not to support him and not listen to his messages. That is my right as a person. An artist has every right to make the art they desire. The public has every right to refuse to interact with it. Whether Ailee knew or not, is irrelevant. She knows now and if she chooses to separate the art from the artist, that is her choice. Will I make assumptions that she supports domestic violence? Maybe, maybe not. Will I support her? I don't know. This is a nuanced debate that we will continue to have especially now that more and more people's illegal activities are being revealed.

I've seen a lot of stuff like this happen on western TV shows. Usually, in the States, the hosts and guests are very friendly towards another, so I wasn't shocked. In the same episode, Cordon also hugged/held hands with the members. Jin definitely was taken aback though lol--but I think BTS had a lot of fun, and they all looked very happy.

But I get It's different when someone you don't know does it. However Ashton is a sweet dude and very goofy, I'm sure he didn't mean any harm in it. The man is an active contributor to stopping human trafficking. Furthermore anything involved with BTS on the show would have been previously agreed upon by Bangtan and thier management. It might have been a bit of culture shock to some, but rationally if anything was amiss, Bangtan's management wouldn't have allowed it to be on air.
