Lol the fans in this vid were nothing... You should watch a fancam or a non-aired version because the fanchants were on point and you can see like half the audience were holding light sticks (army bombs)... And no they didnt put all the ARMYs in front ... The ARMYs were everywhere but you only saw the ones in front 😊😊

there were around 4k (the venue had 7k seats) army at the AMAs, but the staff muted most of them on the broadcast so you can hear the song better, cause it was deafning. i recomend watching some fancams, us army learned the korean fanchant and chanted along. also the seats in the front are vip zone, when bts was announced to perform all army snatched all the remaining 4k tickets out of 7k. cause if you look again not absolutly everyone in the front zone were jumping.

When you were discussing the english I completely agree. I do want to point out that Yoongi is very very good at understanding english, he just can't speak it well. Also you mentioned that they dumbed down the interviews, I couldn't agree more. ARMY were going insane, so over some of the questions, however there was 1 outstanding interview that BTS even retweeted. The only interview they have retweeted. Here's the link if you wanna react/ watch kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYWvdXSandp_sMU

During their visit to the states this time they have had there in ear where it's being translated live. Most members can pick up on this and that without them, however you will see that Yoongi is really good in comparison to the other members. He's also stated multiple times he's good at listening, most recently he mentioned it in their Vlive after AMAs.

I'm just stating that in context of the videos comments, Yoongi seems to have advanced listening skills in comparison to the other members (excluding Namjoon). :) Side note I'm still not over the fact they performed at AMAs. I'm so glad you said it. I always felt that BTS should be more credited because DNA broke the records without becoming a "meme" or a "trend" which, honestly Gangnam Style was. But, I never said it out loud, because I know how attacking Kpop fandoms can be. Still, yes, I really appreciate and respect Psy. After, he really did create a huge movement with GS.

They didn't put all ARMYs in one section. ARMYs bought the highest priced tickets to be up close and show support. Also the entire mezzanine was full of ARMYs. You can see fan cams of their incredible chanting, which were muted on the televised version, and all of the ARMY bombs that were there in the upper sections. I met many ARMYs who flew/drove in from out of states (who did not have AMA tickets) that went to the venue just to show support and chant during the red carpet in order to give BTS confidence and strength going into their performance.

Americans gave them a lot of backlash for lipsyncing some saying they "dont see the hype" which is irritating because an amazing performance can convert even the strongest kpop skeptics.... BUT this performance was BTS big break and their big shot to make as much impact as possible - First impression is important! They did all their preparation and rehearsal, it’s a shame that AMAs cameramen and sound-team didn’t do theirs. Their shitty camera angles missed A LOT of the choreo and spent half the performance filming the crowd or recording the wrong person when somebody else was singing, as result, some impact was lost which is frustrating! Youre right where were the close-ups? The stage was so dark you could hardly see them. America needed to be introduced to their faces!! And Why were their mics turned down so low? They should've called MCountdown / Music Bank to teach them how to REALLY record a K-Pop performance because that was kinda unprofessional tbh! 😒 Also BTS was given no for production, they gave them no staging which was kinda unfair. Also I think there should've been a special intro so they could show off their VOCALS & Cinematic artistry so haters couldn't say “they cant sing” or “they're just another generic boyband” which I’ve heard a lot since. 😒This wasnt the time to do a standard Music Bank performance it should’ve been a MAMA's level performance (I dont see why they couldnt just do their 2016 MAMAs stage at AMAs with a bit of DNA added - and I still think is was a BIG mistake not to put in some 'Blood Sweat & Tears' or 'Fire' as those songs have 10x more impact than DNA). Anyway it's done now, congrats to BTS, hopefully ELLEN/Jimmy Kimmel will let them be more impactful. (sorry for the essay I just had to vent)!!!

I agree. They should've done mix drop or at least Blood Sweat and Tears (better choice than Fire imo as it's a better song and the fan chants are also better). I think also bighit should've gone hand it with the whole production instead of just coming as a guest. But I understand that they wouldn't want to come off as demanding when ama have them honourable invitation. But at least I wish they did something to make it more special

k Aminé Guys, please don't be like this. It was their American debut, did you want a 7 minute stage? Well, I think we wanted a 2 hour stage haha But let's be humble, they are over the moon, so happy. They chose DNA because is their new single, performing older songs would be like saying the new Era is not good enough. That's not a good strategy. I know we want all that's best for them, but I hope they don't even know these opinions. Also, people who don't even research talking about lipsyncing is a minority, look at all the artists praising them!! Let's take that as complement, they think it was so flawless that it couldn't be live! And something else, if they're conquering America, it's only gonna get better and worst. They're sweet, but they're strong, they will have to endure a lot of hate again and enjoy so much love. And I don't even wanna imagine when the racist thing starts. A lot of things will happen, we can't lose out sleep over something for not being PERFECT, we've been through so much. We'll be there to protect them, let's go! Fighting!

Oh my god, yes! The camera work and sound were horrible and did them no favors. It’s like they wanted to convey more of a “see how crazy their audience is” then how great BTS performs. Those of us that are fans, know the song and choreography inside out at this point, so we can fill in the missing gaps in the technical holes. But people watching them on TV for the first time would not have that background. I also wish they had done Mic Drop - more hip hop less bubble gum pop.

I don't think I'd be ready for a Superbowl performance (that's not up to me though lol) because I don't think the demographic that watches the Superbowl is open-minded enough to a foreign boy group. That is just one BIG invitation to a whole lot of racism.

@AdrianaMarcano
@AdrianaMarcano 7 жыл бұрын
but i think at the moment these big producers know that the bts army is a really big fanbase, and if they put BTS, for example on the superbowl, people will watch it. BTS = a LOT of ratings, that's why they were the second to last to perform on the AMAs because people were going to stop watching the minute BTS were done with their performance. So i don't know if they are going to ever perform on the superbowl, but i think these producers are (slowly) realizing how big BTS really is. So i will not be surprised to see BTS in every award show from now on.
@Aphrodites_son555

Ciana I think they need more exposure in America to do the Super Bowl. In my opinion if they want to become huge in America they will need to work with a big artists like Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, or Lady Gaga. If that happens I think that would make them have their big breakthrough in America. They’ll need to broaden their demographics.
@hafsa1698

I personally wouldn't want bts to reach the level of popularity that Bruno has. I want the fandom to grow steadily as it's been doing. This way we can stay a family and protect them. What's special about bts and kpop groups is the fandom culture. I don't want them to loose that and be like psy and western artists where there is no fan culture just casual listeners.

While there were a few fans stationed in the 'ARMY' zone near the stage as shown in this video, most of the ARMYs were actually in the mezzanine section. They ruled the upper storey and the loudest fan chants could be heard from there which echoed throughout the theatre, especially if you watch the fancams. You'd be able to see more ARMY Bombs above. The fan chants were mostly muted in the live broadcast during the performance but the venue was extremely loud because ARMYs turned it into their own concert.

The sad thing is that RM can't really express himself that well in english either..... he can make do, but if you look at the korean interviews his thoughts are soo much deeper... So all the english intervews are very shallow, sadly. Even when RM is translating to BTS he simplify it, so I hope they have proper translator on talkshows....

I hate it when ARMYs insist RM is fluent in English, especially to new reactors. It sets up a huge expectation from people, which is unrealistic. RM is literally a genius, but he's just trying his best when he speaks English. He can't really express his personality and wit. He has some go to phrases, but in Korean he expresses himself so much more eloquently.

Im so glad someone else noticed! Namjoon isnt that fluent. I realized that even more with these interviews. His English accent is on point but it really hit me that he is a authentic ethnic Korean who didnt grow up in a Western country. I tend to forget sometimes because his accent sounds native, but you can tell he cant express himself that well in English. There were even a couole questions some interviewers asked and he couldn't understand, or words he didn't understand like "heartthrob" or "heartbreaker" in Korean interviews he gets way more in depth. He does amazing though and has a lot on his plate with translating. But his English has room for improvement. He isnt a native English speaker guys! Remember. He is super smart but think how often in his life dud he communicate in English except for now? Not often. He never lived outside Korea.

She Was a Poem in a World of Status Updates It's true. BUT if he doesn't practice, he won't get better. English is not my first language, even though I understand it, it's hard to express my thoughts completely , but if I lived in America and kept practicing, I would fill the blanks. That's exactly the same with him, cause we learned English the same way 😂 with TV shows and music (although he has less of an accent and I have a bit more vocabulary) Then again, if you go back to your country and don't practice, you'll forget again. He is fluent, as much as a person can be living in a non english speaking country. And you can notice that from the first day in the US til the last we saw of him, there was improvement. So if he keeps doing it, it's better, he'll get better at it (: it's just a thought.

I was there and most fans sat further back to the wall. if you pause it when the camera faces the audience, you can see a line from left to right filled with light sticks. What's even crazier is that ARMYs came out, who didn't even attend the show, chanting while everyone was still in line to get in. this awards show was crazy insane whenever armys thought bts was showed or they thought they saw bts. i couldn't believe that this American music show put BTS as the second to last performer of the night. i'm saving my tickets. NEVER SEEN ASIAN PERFORMERS ON AN AMERICAN STAGE SINCE IVE BEEN AN ASIAN AMERICAN IN THIS COUNTRY. Let's continue diversity

I do think it would be easier for them if they learned more English, but I think the point of international fans liking kpop in general is that they can get past the language barrier and still enjoy the music. Also BTS never meant to advance to the U.S. and honestly I feel like if they put out songs in English it might hurt them since it might come out as a gimmick.

I don't think they should change their music at all and should keep to what they have been doing because subtitles are so readily available and its best they write lyrics in their own language but I do think they should learn more English just for the sake of interviews and expressing themselves. Because the average consumer won't go look for subtitled interviews after an interview or award show I think it would be good for them to express themselves so they can have more meaningful questions asked.

Hey, I was there. Most of the armies were in the back, and they were evenly spread cause you could tell by the thousands of bangtan lightsticks. The pit was full of super excited fans, then the celebs, and VIP seats were mixed with ARMY and "who is BTS? BLT?" people. Basically, most VIPs who got tickets before BTS was announced were like what the f is going on, cause the screaming was insane from the moment the Producer announced that they will be next. Like the loudest of the night. The excitement and screaming really energized the air so everyone stood up even before they started performing. There was so much anticipation that it was contagious. After the performance, the OMG what just happened hung in the air before people could calm down and let the next segment be filmed. That's why Jared said he needed a moment. He wasn't the one that needed the moment, the crowd was still cheering and screaming for BTS after the performance. That comment gave everyone time to calm themsevles to let teh show move on. Ticketer told me that 24 hours after they announced BTS, 4000 seats sold... so that was Nov 8... And most fans were non Korean even though girls flew in from Korea with their giant cameras. And as soon as BTS was done, they were on their phones uploading everything....

Yoongi can understand English fine, he just doesn’t like to speak it but he’s getting better at it. It’s not that they all don’t understand English it’s that it’s hard for them to speak it. They know a lot, and are continuing to learn more. Even if they don’t know fluent English it’s not going to hurt them majorly. I mean there are people like James Corden whos a major television host, and he invited them onto the show, he’d been trying for about a year to get them on the show. As long as they can communicate in some way, and the boys can understand it doesn’t seem to be much of an issue.

The fanchant was muted but you can still hear the fanchant. That’s how loud they are. And those who watched this performance live say that BTS lipsynced here but when you watch a fancam, you can hear their breathing and Yoongi saying “let’s go let’s go”. The AMAs muted the fanchant. They meddled with ARMYs fanchant so they are also meddling with BTS’ audio. And BTS are trying learning English rn and half the audience were ARMY but ARMY weren’t the only one who’s cheering for them. Everyone was standing and dancing and singing along to them even though some don’t even know the lyrics

I agree. I also think the dumbed down questions are because they're a boy band. I'm pretty sure One Direction got lots of these same questions. I remember growing up Nsync and BSB getting the same questions minus the food ones in the beginning of their careers. There's a perception that boy bands are shallow musicians so that's an added layer to BTS also being korean and not fluent in english. Then this all being new and a huge deal so they are nervous. Looking back to old 2013 interviews the same members who are quiet now were quiet then for the most part. But you can definitely see them getting more comfortable with the interviews as days passed. Giving their responses in korean is better than giving none at all while RM tries to coax something out of them. They are honestly luck one of their members is so good at english. Translators won't know them as well and get the feel of what they're saying. Basically, its all a matter of time and practice getting comfortable in these situations. As it is now, it was a good beginning as David said.

This was the first time BTS was on tv live. They did perform on the Jimmy Kimmel stage but it was not aired as of yet. Also, I saw there was over 4k ARMY that bought AMA tickets. There were assigned seats.

It’s definitely more than 4K. It was 4K on the first day they announced they were performing at 9am. The ticket sales person was like sales skyrockets all of a sudden in just one day (4K) so I bet there’s atleast 5 or more) Jimmy kimmel is a talk show but this is an actual award show performance. This was on a huge scale so it’s a first. Most of the front weren’t armys. Those spots are expensiiive. Like over $1000. All the armys were in the back and those fancams they were LOUD. Bts were just hyped enough to make everyone else hype and jump around. BTS IMPACT

Fun facts, Armys were mostly pushed to the back on the second floor. Fan chants and thousand of army bombs cound be seen there. The front were mostly VIPS non Kpop stans. But they were jamming to BTS nonetheless, like how can they not

They said that they studiet English really hard up to this trip, and i think Yoongi understand it pretty well, but is not that comfortable speaking it. Don't know if they have a proper english teacher though, or if they're still just learning from Namjoon? He might be good at teaching idk. but it's a lot to ask of him, and an educated teacher is probably better.

Not sure about the teacher thing but they do learn from Namjoon because Jimin kept saying "We always" whenever he spoke english and that's something Namjoon says a lot.

At the end of the day, lessons from a professional could help Namjoon's English skills as well. The other members could help him in interviews so he doesn't have to hard carry the group in that respect as much as he does.

I agree, they need to prioritize learning english to express themselves. And it’s true that they dumbed down the questions thinking that foreigners can only understand those type of questions. Unfortunately, some people thinks that when you can’t speak English you’re less intelligent 😞😣.

the audience was more ARMY, they announce with BTS on TV with enough time to buy the tickets for the AMAs. People from Florida fly to California just to see BTS. BTS was on every single radio station, and TV shows and TV News. Now they really are known for all ages here in the US. We are waiting to be on air the Main Varieties shows, a mini-concert, and Ellen. You don't have an idea how big was here in the US. ABC AMAs cuts was always BTS.

That's me at the part where you guys said "omg, this is the army zone" 😂 I got front row of the moshpit, and many other ARMYs were there as well. Mosh pit tickets weren't on sale, you have to sign up and get casted for them, it's all completely free. People in the moshpit and seat fillers are used for the purpose to make the show appear full, it looks bad if theres an empty space apparently, it's done at every award show. The only catch is that we can't use our phones to record (it'll look bad on tv), no pictures or disturbing the artist, and we have to follow any rules that the staff tells us - they usually want us to appear more energetic. Anyways, if you mean that the fans were lip synching, I can assure you we weren't. I screamed the fanchants so loud my voice cracked multiple times and my vocal cords are still recovering. The regular folks who happened to be around us gave such weird looks and many were surprised by the hype. When some complained of how you can't even understand what BTS was saying, how Asians don't belong at an American award show, that they weren't singing English, that they hated this section, etc. we made sure to scream louder. What they televised didn't do the fanchants justice, they muted us. I suggest watching fancams, we were really loud. BTS even stated that they could hear the fanchants through the earpiece that was suppose to cancel the noise out 👍

ARMYs were everywhere in that venue if you watched clogs. The ones in the front were people who bought the tickets and then there was a VIP section where they were aloud to record with their phone. But from what I’ve read online, ARMY bought out majority of the tickets for the AMA’s.

Yeah communication is really important. I’m proud of them because they’re all trying hard to learn more languages including English. I think they were just nervous so they couldn’t say much. They did rehearse specific lines so they could at least say something during interviews so that’s a start.

This was BTS actual American debut. The pit was for the artist's fans and changed per performance but the balcony was filled with screaming BTS fans. The audio of the fan chants was muted by ABC. If you want to hear the pandemonium that was going on during that performance go check out a fan cam. The best interview was from Zank Sang. Go check it out.
