Diversity equity inclusion doesn't lesson the capabilities of a person. I'd argue any day that it actually produces better candidates than the majority legacies.

So much of this happens in nursing, they get so shocked that you’re the RN and we are in ‘24

I’m an RN and you are spot on!! I can count how many I’ve walked in patients rooms and they automatically assumed I’m the Nurse aid, dietary or cleaning crew! That’s not to say something is wrong with those positions as they’re the backbone of the hospital but just the automatic assumption baffles me !

This is why we can't downplay down racism, black injustices, diasism, discrimination, racial profiling, and relining because these things still exist in this country. Black people always had to jump to hurdles and hoops to prove ourselves educationally and if we are qualified while white people dont have go throught these stumbling block just because they are white. DL is correct, black is wrong, white is right eventhough black people may have double the education and qualifications. We still have some ways to go on race relations in this country

@@troy2832 Those two took journalism in college, if I'm not mistaken, and Hughley - I don't know if he went to college, but sure is an entertainer, and he presents himself as much as a journalist, as these two do, in trying to be as much an entertainer, as they are journalist. Is this the impact hearing lyrics like "everybody is a star", and "you're a shinning star", has had on us? Is this why there exist something called "performative Blackness", that we hear from people like Michael Eric Dyson, who seems to always be in performance mode and channeling the inner Rap artist in himself, as if his accomplishments, in his profession, are not enough recognition for him? Do some of us doubt ourselves that much? All this talk about psychology, especially trauma, but are we really serious about self examination of ourselves? Are those who speak, as if they represent all or most of us, really representative of us? Are they doing us a service? What do they ever ask of us, in terms of us directly helping ourselves? Why do they intentionally ignore the things we do, to make our situation/condition worse, which is within our power to correct? Why do they focus totally on racism in all its forms, which we have little, if any at all, power to change? This is our fundamental problem, as a group. To deal with our situation, without first correcting this fundamental problem, will simply repeat the same unproductive patterns of struggle, we have engaged in, since the 'Civil Rights' and 'Black Power' movements'. Do you know how long Black people have been asking Black people to support Black financial institutions and businesses, with little success? Black businesses can't compete with large businesses. Small businesses have a high failure rate. They literally have to be twice as good to draw Black customers and many of them don't even try to open businesses that anyone would patronize, thus they limit their market. It might be better to try partnerships with White business-persons and not market to a narrow demographic. Any movement for the collective economic development of Black people, IMO must have a campaign that stresses the fact that crime especially violent crime, is bad for business. Hip-Hop should have been used as the foundation for the vitalization of Black communities, but it never happened. It is thus more than ironic that in celebrating its 50th anniversary last year, it used the slogan it "changed the world" - really! How could it change the world but not the communities it came out of, and those like them? In the sport of bowling if not other sports also, there is the saying "trust is a must, or your game is a bust". This is true for our collective struggle. We have lacked trust and faith in one another, and have grown even further apart, than in the late 70's when I believe was about the time I first heard this call to support Black financial institution and business in general. Our financial institutions have continued to close since those days. The high closer rate may have dropped in the last few years or more, but that may be just because there are so few of them now. Many of us talk of Black Wall Street, when we really need functional Black communities, with a 'Main Street'. We don't even visualize properly. KRS-One has said Hip-Hop should be an ethnicity within itself, and also has called for there to be sections designated for the culture of Hip-Hop, in every major city in the world. Why would he separate Black Hop-Hop advocates from Black people in general? Why would he jump over creating cultural specific centers in Black communities, to do it in any major city in the world? Where is his focus. Why were not these statements made by him, a big part of recognizing where Hip-Hop is, after 50 years? It is not just a lack of trust that will cause our efforts to be a bust. It is also lack of organization. If racism in all its forms is truly the major cause of all of our problems, which I question, our collective response to it must be as systemic and structured as we say it is.
