Thanks for all your video Dennis. Been watching your channel for years. In the next year I am moving from all rounds to mostly squares. After weighing all options, I have settled on a Norden AE15 and tie grabber along with a SQ102 squeeze. I am hoping the all vertical bale configuration will do nice with the squeeze albeit I may be limited to 3 layers to pickup per squeeze. I think the time saved with the squeeze will be well worth it. I will need to move lots of hay from field to barn each day. Plan on running the squeeze with my M6-141 Kubota which has a pretty high rated loader capacity of 4961#.

Funny, I do that sometimes with the much smaller bales of cardboard from the cardboard compactor when it needs changing. Use the forklift and use the tine width adjustment. Usually works if not really the design. I never lift it high, just enough.

Dennis I think all you need is time. When loading the tractor trailer, take a stck outside close to you, bring your stack of five, put in the trailer, and the grab the other two off of the stack you have close by. Thay new baler sure makes some nice looking bales.

From what I have observed squeezes are made for western hay. That is 3 twine 100# bricks. They can haul a stack 20 miles to make a delivery with the squeeze. Eastern 50#, 35 inch, bales soft enough to air dry in our humid climate almost must be handled with a grapple.

Your hay business is very impressive. I don’t know how your help situation is going. But you have your operation down to operating equipment which to me is smart. I had a thought for you on the pallet idea. Have you try building one out of aluminum? I don’t know if it cost prohibitive or not but over time is where you might come out ahead. By the way your hay looks really good.

Ok I'm curious about the 360 degree camera, what is it and where did you get it? I was wondering how you do the videos where the camera angle changes without you moving the camera, pretty slick. Also on the squeeze I actually built what is to my knowledge is the first small square squeeze made for a skid steer or tractor. I will say I was pretty surprised that they even marketed it for bales flat. A squeeze works much better with bales on edge in my experience. And you're right with the arch of the bottom bales, they really need to be arched like a bridge in order to counteract the weight of the upper layers of hay. I wish I had a good way to tie my layers together it would really make mine more efficient as well. I use a stacker so mine are in 10 bale on edge packs but aren't tied together. It really sucks to lose a stack so I just take a layer or 2 or 3 at a time. I'm pretty efficient with the squeeze by now my biggest issue was telling the angle of the squeeze arms, if they're angled up at the end it doesn't grab worth a hoot. So I added a simple angle finder using a chain that is adjustable so I can set the angle that I want to achieve which has helped a lot. You have a pretty efficient set up. One word of advice for getting between stacks is if you kind of shimmy the skid steer back and forth as you move in it will slide in pretty well. Thanks for the overview of the squeeze.
@DLHFarms
@DLHFarms Жыл бұрын
Nice trick with the chain I may have to try that. The 360 camera is an Insta 360 x3 I love it but it does take a lot of time to reframe all the shots in editing.

Hey Dennis . When the skid steer is loaded with the five stacks I noticed it ride on the front boggy wheel rather than the full length of the the track obviously because of the weight . But my question is does it wear heavy on the front bogies? 🤗 . Can you put counterweights on the back ?

It don’t hurt it. The main reason it does that is because of the suspension that is built into those tracks. It allows the boggies to flex

I see that you stack your hay with no pallets on a concrete floor. My question is this, does any moisture ever wick up from the concrete floor into your hay?
@DLHFarms
@DLHFarms 6 ай бұрын
If the hay is dry I have no problems. If the hay was high moisture and I put hay preservative on the bales i have to pay attention to the bottom bales. Most of the time they are ok but sometimes the floor will cause them to mold but just maybe an inch into the bale. But it will usually just be one or two bales in the 10pack, but I try to catch them and pull them out. I had the same problem with pallets and high moisture bales. Usually don’t have any problems with high moisture bales with preservative that are just touching other bales.

That definitely looks like a marmite thing… love or hate lol. I used to have the same kinda principle but on a self load trailer (cooks 56 squeeze trailer) and as you say, if the bottom was the wrong way it was going to be a long hard day! I ended up chopping the trailer up, it just didn’t work for me. They did used to put another bar from the centre of the back plate that ran through the centre of the pack made from something like a 4”flat bar and a 2” flat bar to make a T bar🤷‍♂
