We used to bale with IH from the 50’s into the 70’s. Used a Hesston 30 stakhand for the next 30 years. Rebuilt it 3 times. Finished up with aJohn Deere 530 round baler. Still missed the old squares. Just easier to feed. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for the video, I love your baler and sure you will also. I run a Hesston inline baler and its the cat's meow! What I've found is you have to keep the knotters clean, much hay will collect on them with these balers and tend to foul the knotters if you don't clean them, wish I had the knotter fans. About every hour I need to clean them by hand or blow them off with a hand held blower. Yes, these balers make bricks that your customers will love. The key is run quality twine, no cheap stuff or the strings will break or not always tie well. I make 32" bales to stack 3 across, end to end on an 8' wide truck or wagon bed. And they stack well since they are good tight bales. At 32" the bales come out every 10 strokes or about every 10 seconds in thick hay. I start with 3 guys on my 20' wagons pulled behind the baler, then drop down to 2 guys, then one as the wagon fills. I offload with a grapple that lifts 12 bales at once to stack in the barn. Biggest problem is finding 3 guys to help me. I'm interested in an accumulator the reason I'm watching your video. Mine is a fast haying system that an accumulator can't match. I have an old guy to run the baler and I do all the unloading with the grapple. Fine if I have help to stack the wagons. Pucker factor goes way up with 20 acres of hay on the ground and my help doesn't show. Reason I need an accumulator as a back up. I sell the small squares for horse hay and my customers all love the solid bales.

I have a Massey 1837 bought about the time I bought the accumulated like the first one you had. They both work good together. You won't regret buying the 1840. You will also enjoy being able to bale any direction you want. I think a camera on the bale chamber looking at the accumulator.

Glad you can appreciate the weight of those bales; as a 13 year old one of my farm chores was following the baler and lifting them up onto a wagon being towed by another tractor. The baler was pulled by an Allis-Chalmers row crop from the 1940s IIRC, and the baler was of similar vintage. MIND YOU, this was in 1967....

I can see the next upgrade to the fleet being a bigger rake, the new baler could handle double the size of windrow with ease. Not a bad problem to have, higher productivity/efficiency is always a good thing 😊

12-14 strokes per bale is where mine makes the prettiest and most consistent bales. That inline will make a bale down at 8 strokes per bale but the consistency is a little more off. I've run our inline for 5 years now. Absolutely love it. Won't go back. I can turn which ever way is more convenient to me.

Yes that’s what I’m seeing too. If you stuff it too hard you get not so pretty bales, but the NH is the same way. If you force it the bales look bad.

Once again thanks for the Norden AF10 videos. You sold me on it. I have been running my MF 1837 baler with 5 EZ trail hay baskets and wanted something more ME friendly. I have no tension on my baler and only rely on the back force on the sliding board of the hay baskets and AF10. My production is down 50% here in western PA this year.

Good stuff. We are going into our 3rd season with the 1840 and can’t be happier. It doesn’t make banana bales and the longer chute also helps with making firmer bales which is good when picking up with a grapple. Also can move along a lot faster than my buddies NH5070. We mounted a wireless camera on the back for those hard to see spots. The only problem we’ve had is with the PTO slip clutch right in front of the flywheel. It can be stubborn engaging at times so be sure not to grease the joint near the clutch to much.

The massy Ferguson Heston balers are great balers. We run a 2290 which is a big square baler. They are tight strong bales that have no give. One thing to keep an eye on is the knotters. If they get slightly misaligned they will jam. Another thing is keep a short tail when you tie the twine balls together. That can cause a jam

I’m probably going to an inline once I upgrade. One less change of direction for the crop, higher throughput due to less change of direction, and the biggest reason is it’ll be easier for my kids to bale corners with since it can drive down the row instead of judging distance beside it

Thirty years ago, I moved out here from the burbs. When the farmer hayed the field across the road, he used an old square baler (kachunk, kachuck, kachunk, sproing) and a non-turbo tractor (purr, snarl, purr snarl). Now he uses a turbo tractor and round baler - (whine, whine, whine, clunk). The new equipment "ain't got no melody". Gonna have to have a talk with that boy!

In line balers are faster since the hay goes directly into the bale chamber. Also great for alfalfa to preserve more leaves in the bales. Bales are tight and solid, just keep the knotters clean with fans and use quality twine. Cheap twine can't always keep up, breaks sometimes and doesn't always cut and tie well.

Nice set up! Do you know what your bales per hour output is? We have an inline Hesston 4590 with a Holscher accumulator, it seems we could easily out bale the accumulator capacity. We have tossed around the idea of a Kuhns accumulator but we havent seen any around the central KS area to watch in action or talk to operator about.

The last hay I did I was baling over 314 per hour and that included the time turning corners and stopping to check bales. That was also trying to keep at least 10 to 12 flakes per bale.

What size is your Tractor pulling the baler? I have a 6110R, makes for a long day climbing in and out of cab alot. I noticed you got out walking down the steps..bad habit I have too. Enjoyed your video

It’s a 6110R also it’s been turned up to about 140hp. I’m doing better by walking down the steps cause I used to open the door go down one step and jump. I finally figured out that’s why my Knees where killing me so I quit.

We baled and bundled with one 1840/5250 combo...... but the number of people required to get it out the field and under cover equalled the number of people required to round bale the hay, and round baling was faster....(running 2 rakes and 3 balers) ......plus the rounds can wait in place for the same crew to transport and store.....
@DLHFarms
@DLHFarms Жыл бұрын
But there no market for round bales here no money to be made with them. People with horses and goats want square hay.

@@DLHFarms I did not say that we round bale for sale...... We Round bale for OUR benefit........ Our main objective is converting to small squares...for supplying contract customers..... There are problems with converting rounds to squares and most the equipment supplied for that purpose will not work in unison without modifications.. Our "Modified". set up will allow three people to load a 21- bale bundle every 6 to 7 minutes,,,, 39 bundles( 53ft trailerload) in roughfly 3 1/2 hrs And the bales have that just baled look and feel!

Ok that makes sense. I have thought about doing it that way I even have a Simpson unroller but rebaling is a pain, I decided that I would do as much as I could in the feild then rebale when I had no choice.

@farmingforfunandprofit940 Жыл бұрын
@@DLHFarms We also use The Simpson but it has Been Modified and set up for contineous feeding.... not stop and go .. The Windrow coming off the Bale is control fed into the baler almost the same as it does in the field.....the cores are stil a problem we are ripping them apart by hand presently...... Cleaning up is the hardest part
