UP crumbled in pressure. That's the story of the game. They wanted to close out and get the championship in Game 2 that they lost composure. What really happened UP in this game? Where did they go wrong? The first few minutes of the first quarter, I knew right away that Game 2 would not go on UPs way when Francis free throw shots weren't falling 2 of 2. That was the first bad sign. The free throw shooting of UP. The second bad sign during the first quarter was the looming offensive rebounds of La Salle. La Salle were just swallowing all the rebounds. UP were allowing them to get those rebounds. Worse, UP allowing La Salle to turn it to second chance points. Statistically, whichever team have more possession will win the game. And yes, UP allowed La Salle to get more possessions. The decision of UP coaching staff to close out the attacks in the paint, Mike Philipps, proved to be costly for UP. Open looks from three point line became available in La Salle. Thus David and Escandor made 4 buckets each from beyond the arc. UP, in return, attack the basket with hero balls instead of distributing the ball and make a team effort of attacking the basket. It also didn't help that when they find themselves with open looks, they hesitated to shot beyond the arc. When Aldous couldn't make his 5 straight away buckets, I said wala na to. The most telling sign for me that UP gonna lose big is when CJ couldn't contribute and water the drought with his shots from beyond the arc. CJ, the spark plug, the drought buster. Another was when Coach Gold put Harold longer than his effective length of time in court. Those wrapped it up with L ending for UP. This is a different UP from S84 and S85. The S84,S85 UP never say die. The S86 UP, you'd know they win or lose depends on their first half if you look at the trad stats on possession, rebound, FTs and second chance points. Walang pamatay sunog from UP. Hindi rin gumana magic bunot kay Cyril. I was wishing sana nilaban ni Coach Gold si Chico kay Escandor. Yun lang thoughts ko. Sana di kayo magalit for being critical to UP. The good news is there's still game3. They can still bounce back. UP Fight!

​@@dissapointment8334 Yah, I get you. Carl and Zav were the go-to guys back in S84,85. When offense is hard, they just gave it Carl tapos pupuntos na agad. Pero I think may designated go-to guy naman this season, si CJ at Harold. CJs normal shooting, he can create 20 pts for the team, pero today 2 out of 7 lang Siya. Isang attempt lang rin from 3pt line. CJ and Harold have been struggling this season. There were days na fruitful but there were days na tigang naman. I agree with you though how important the role Carl and Zav left behind that Francis and Aldous are trying to fill this season. Today, the way I see it, the role and task as being the main scorer was given to Malick and Francis. They kept missing shots esp Francis. Sorry miss for UP.

Character game right there for DLSU, winning today with mental fortitude. UP started off hot with that 12-2 run, but instead of crumbling like they did in G1, DLSU stayed focused and determined. Hats off to coach Topex and staff, DLSU came out ready to play with a clear purpose and sheer effort. Each offensive possession was fantastic to watch - Nelle dictated and stabilized the pace with crisp ball movement, Phillips and KQ dominated the offensive glass, and their wings knocked down open threes as a result of these. Amazing for DLSU that KQ and Nelle weren’t even scoring heavily and they dominated this game. UP played frustrated, which was perfectly understandable as every shot in the paint was hounded by DLSU’s superior interior defense and rebounding. UP ended up trying to play hero ball, forcing out of system shots, and attempting knockout 3s every possession. UP definitely has the tools - talent and coaching wise, to bounce back from this. Game 3 will surely be a treat for basketball fans!

Francis is only on his first year in seniors UAAP and has in fact developed a lot of skill sets from mere slam dunking. When Mike Philips started in the uaap, he was more awkward, slamdunking all the time as well, hyperactive with all arms and legs flailing, poor shooting. Until his 2nd year, he was the same. He just improved with time, and was advised to save his energy instead of going beastmode and over celebratory with his shots. Comparing Francis now vs Mike Philips in his rookie year? Francis is way smoother. To those saying he’s mayabang vs the brothers who are humble, do you know them personally? Francis doesn’t even go beast mode and is calm with his successful moves and highlights. . Some people are just bitter with his transfer. Good decision, he wouldn’t have been in the finals as a rookie 👍

When Lopez transferred to UP, some said, is he that good? He is not a loss to his former team. Now he is ROY and is one of the key players who steered his team to the finals. His skills are advanced people often forget he is a rookie. He is often pitted against veterans/more senior players in the uaap on and off the court.

I was there and sensed that UP's scoring drought in the 3rd was largely due to slashers getting blocked. UP could have used more TimeOuts and changed the momentum. The surge of DLSU's lead felt unceremonious.
