My father retired from the DM&IR as North End Mechanical Supervisor in the early 1970s. I worked various jobs for the DM&IR during my summers, extra gang, b&b, track gang, machine operator, all of which were hourly labor jobs. We lived near a DM&IR staging yard and when I was very young you could here the steam engines working.

Thank you for your comments. I was at Proctor on 2 July 1961 when the last two "Mallets" were used, and it made a lifelong impression on me, as you can see from the models!

I saw the M-3 and 4's run when I was a young man visiting family in Minnesota. Strong, huge and very powerful. One time a crew invited me into the cab, It was huge inside.

Yes, they had all the extras money could buy, like an illuminated view of the stoker screw in the cab floor surrounded by glass bricks. This was so you could watch the coal moving through and easily access jam ups.

Not going to lie, it's always a treat to see big steam like the Yellowstone's in action. Add in an exotic locale like the DMIR and one of their rare 0-10-2's and you've got a masterpiece!

Not sure if you've posted Vids of the other areas of the RR, because I'm curious as to, at 3:43, where the track curves to our left between the church and the water tank, goes to, and the rear track to our left of the church, where the two (are they ?) log cars sit, goes to..Is it the beginning of a branch line or simply a stub end spur or two ? Anyway, you've got a spectacular RR here..Your motivepower and rolling stock are excellently weathered and move along great. Structures and figures on/in them are a great touch...Love all those hundreds of ore jennys....

That is a logging line not connected to the mainline. It forms a loop around the town. It is still a work in progress, as is most of the layout. We just operate on it and are glad to have it. The layout is in a hobby shop, "Just Trains", in Concord, CA. Thanks for commenting.

How many Yellowstones do you have out of the real life 18 counterparts in model form, as in road numbers?
@MrFrost-bi1br Жыл бұрын
I have ten fully upgraded and ready for service, and two more still in their boxes.

Are all the Yellowstones from MTH? I have #232 on my layout. They are beautiful models. I just wish they had TCS quility sound.
@MrFrost-bi1br Жыл бұрын
All the Yellowstones are MTH. Two have Tsunami decoders, as the electronics self destructed.

That's it? All that money for a glorified shelf layout? Epic fail.
@paulschannel9184 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your “epic” comment. We are thankful for being able to operate on a hobby shop layout that has a minimum radius of 42 inches which is required for most of the modelers equipment.
