Are you suffering with low back pain? Have you thought about exploring PRP injections?
Want to OVERCOME chronic pain? Go here: regenerativeperformance.com/dr-drew-timmermans
If you’re new to my channel, my name is Dr. Drew Timmermans, ND, RMSK. I’m the founder of Regenerative Performance in Gilbert, AZ, specializing in interventional orthobiologics, which is just a fancy way of saying we help people reclaim their life from chronic pain without steroids or surgery. We challenge the conventional pain management approaches by addressing the root causes of chronic pain.
How I got here…
22 yrs old: Graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario.
23 yrs old: Competed as a long sprinter, anchoring the 4x400m relay to a silver medal at the Canadian national championships, contributing to Western's first national title in men's track and field.
23 yrs old: Started working as a personal trainer for GoodLife Fitness in Canada, quickly becoming one of the Top 10 Personal Trainers nationwide.
23 yrs old: Herniated two discs in my lower back, ending my track and field career and sending me into a multi-year battle with chronic pain.
24 yrs old: Enrolled at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (now Sonoran University of Health Sciences) after discovering my passion for naturopathic medicine.
26 yrs old: Still battling chronic back pain, I finally became pain-free through a platelet-rich plasma injection.
28 yrs old: Graduated and become a licensed naturopathic doctor.
29 yrs old: Completed the first-ever residency in regenerative medicine and integrative pain management at the Neil Riordan Center for Regenerative Medicine.
29 yrs old: Co-founded Regenerative Performance to help people with chronic pain just as I had been helped.
Today: We help people who have chronic joint pain reclaim their life with cutting edge treatments like platelet rich plasma, and stem cell therapy.
To everyone battling chronic pain, remember that your story is still being written.
Never give up.

Nice lecture, doctor. A total of how many different injections did she undergo, and how much was the total cost? Was any of it covered by her insurance? Thank you.

Hi Dr.! I have prp scheduled for a labrum tear and facet joints in my neck....dr daid minimal to no risk s d minimal downtime any concern you think? If its not done in the disc and morenin the ligaments at the facet?

Have you heard of a calcified iliolumbar ligament and what would you do for that? Lavage with prolotherapy to see if you can break it up?
@DrewTimmermansND
@DrewTimmermansND 3 жыл бұрын
Have heard of it, but haven't seen it. I would probably use PRP over prolotherapy and do some manual fenestration of the area as well
@davidlourenco4662

Perhaps shockwave therapy which breaks up calcification.

dr drew. I have a chiropractor that is recommending these prp injections along with decompression for my lower back and he is telling me they are done subcutaneous "very shallow just under the skin". does this sound correct?
@DrewTimmermansND
@DrewTimmermansND 2 жыл бұрын
Either he is downplaying the injections to try and make you feel more comfortable about them (which is a big red flag 🚩 in the first place), or he is uneducated and the person doing the injections isn't properly trained (another 🚩) or he's referring to perineural injection therapy which is done subcutaneous (still another 🚩 if he didn't use proper verbiage). Too many red flags for me. You might benefit from PRP, but it doesn't sound like that chiropractor is the best person to guide you on that process

@@DrewTimmermansND Thank you Dr. Drew for the response. I feel like they are red flags too. His explaination of the prp procedure comes from this mri finding of my lumbar spine: "L4-5: Mild disc degeneration. Shallow posterior bulging disc. Superimposed right foraminal disc protrusion extends 3 to 4 mm beyond the endplate margins mildly contouring the traversing right L4 nerve root. Mild to moderate right neural foraminal stenosis. Broad-based annular fissure at the left posterior lateral corner approximates the extraforaminal left L4 nerve root. Mild left neural foraminal stenosis. Mild facet degeneration. No significant thecal sac attenuation." for 2 years now, I have numbness/tingling down the right leg into the foot, sometimes on bottom of feet (sore and tingly), tight butt muscles, left upper butt deep pain. certain back adjustments trigger this so it seems logical its a back issue, even though the neurosurgeon who ordered these mri's says "he doesn't think my symptoms are coming from the back" but has no other answers for me. the cost of the procedures that my chiropractor wants to do are not covered by insurance and are EXTREMELY expensive. the expensive price tag comes with shockwave therapy too. don't know enough about this to make an educated decision. how is putting PRP just under the skin going to do anything for the issue if its coming from the l4/l5 nerve root area? i asked him that question and his answers was something like (not verbatim) "we are injecting it above or around the area to promote healing along with decompression". Like you said, too many red flags. thanks again so much for taking the time to repsond.

Is there any risks with these injections being so close to the spine? Also, how effective is PRP for DDD (degenerative disc disease)? Thank you.
@DrewTimmermansND
@DrewTimmermansND 2 жыл бұрын
Yes there's always risk. That risk goes down in the hands of someone experienced who uses image guidance (xray and/or ultrasound). There's some newer literature showing positive improvement for DDD with intradiscal injections of PRP

All these experimental shots over the last three years to find treatments that work or help with symptoms/cures… As I have been told by a good friend that’s a medical professor is that everyone is avoids discussing the biggest “elephant in the room” which is more likely the cause of your life changing problem.

How long does the relief from prp and stem cell injections last?
@DrewTimmermansND
@DrewTimmermansND 3 жыл бұрын
Depends if it helps resolve the cause of pain or just has an anti-inflammatory effect. If it resolves the pain, then it is long lasting. If there is still another underlying cause, then the relief could last 6-24 months on average
