One of the only movies I ever cried watching. Very powerful. At first I was kind of mad, because I wanted a happy ending for this movie, but I realize that it's the only way it could have ended. It wouldn't have the same kind of emotional and philosophical impact if Danny lived. Hate is a disease.

I remember when I had to study this film with my class in Film Studies regarding emotional responses. Usually we messed about and talked during the films from time to time. However with this film, we were silent and watching it because of how awesome the film and soundtrack was, as well as how engaging the plot was... and when this scene happened, total silence and everyone's eyes were just widened with disbelief with what happened. Heedless to say; the movie did definitely leave an impact on us and was really worth writing about in our exam. On the bright side, myself and one of the film students found a copy of the film in a charity shop, so I immediately brought it so I could rewatch it again. :)

I was like derek at one point. I had so much hatred against black people and blamed all Of my problems on others. Then i saw this movie and i saw everything play out and how violence and hatred only spawn more hatred and violence between others. I broke down crying and i couln't stop saying "i'm so sorry" When no one was there.

I'm trans and had such amusing things to live through like best friends calling people like me disgusting or that we should all be killed That happened dozens of time (grew up in a rural region). They of course didn't know at the time. And even though I was strong enough then and also a corporal in the army I never did anything. Maybe I should have hit a few of them until my fist stopped hitting skull and started hitting brain but I never did. Almost killed me. Now I'm a scientist at a famous university. Never give into hate.

So I guess this is where I tell you what I learned - my conclusion, right? Well, my conclusion is: Hate is baggage. Life's too short to be pissed off all the time. It's just not worth it. Compose Anne Dudley said, "The Neo-Nazi faction is personified in the music by a boys choir - what could be a more Aryan sound? It would seem natural in this story of racism and violence to have lots of pounding hip-hop rhythms - which is why we didn't. A calming string orchestra instead provides a much more expressive and timeless palette."

Derek was already being raised in a racist environment , but I think the film trued to portray him as not all that bad until his father was killed, in witch at that time he blamed all black ppl and went on to join the group, needing someone to blame for his anger, but through trials he shows true growth, at the beginning he blames black people for the death of his father, but when his next family member died, Danny, he says the words “what did I do” and it shows growth that he not only sees the flaw of his ways but also has accepted that hate negate hate, he does not go back to being hateful, he just regrets it

I moved from Cali not too long ago after living there my whole life out of the US so I can't help but break down cause I miss home so much. Starting my life over in a place where I don't know anyone is hard. This film will always be my favourite.

Here, in Poland, the title'a been translated so it means sth like "The Hate Prisoner". When I saw the ending, that was the only thing coming through my mind - "He really is a hate prisoner, unable to be set free". I mean, when you start hating it's never just yourself you harm. Whoever you hate one day it may all just turn back and hit sbd you love. And then it comes how hard it is to stop hating. So just "Imagine all the people Living life in peace " and help peace rule our world.

@mkrulz77 Well, that's the middle part of the movie where you regain hope. And then it puts a stop to all your illusions and shows you that just because one guy is smart enough to do the right thing that doesn't get him anywhere when the whole social circle is corrupted by an ideology of hate. The only way to get out of the hell they were in would have been to literally get out of there.
