I know your experienced operator, but hear me out. When dealing with that sticky clay, after 1st scoop, dig into the sand and dump. It's like flouring a cake pan. Then every 5-10 buckets or so when starts to build up, dig into the dry sand stuff again and dump it. It will cut down on the bucket buildup dramatically. Had an old timer show me that when I was working a crew changing a culvert pipe running under a road by a swampy marsh like pond. The clay was like sticky dog sh*t that you stepped in. It would start to stick and build up, I would dig a bucket or two of the sand then dig the clay. It acted like a release agent. He also said I could spray furniture polish or spray wax heavy in the bucket and let it dry over night creating a wax coating before digging, but didn't remember or have time for that sh*t or money to waste on such nonsense. The sand however worked wonders. If you don't want a little clay in the sand, dump it on the crap pile. Try it, it only takes a couple seconds between clay scoops.

I’ve worked with those kinds of guys before. I set interceptors on almost every job we do. That guy was just trying to prove he thinks he knows more. But all you really needed was location of interceptor length with depth and your inlets and outlets. He did look that smart by trying to make it look hard.

I have a question since you live so close to the border do you ever go across the border to buy building materials like the sand or lumber or is it just not worth the hassle of going across the border and coming back dealing with all that traffic and checkpoints? Oh and do y’all ever go to Seaport Village and eat at the restaurant there like Sam the cooking guys restaurant

Not worth it. Usually its a 4 hour or more wait to cross back, plus I believe if you try to bring anything more than a small amount of materials across, you have to deal with customs and import fees, etc.
