I like the part at the end with the inspection data. That is pretty cool.
@caseycarpenter793 жыл бұрын
It is pretty cool. But unfortunately they aren't using any scanning on the Zeiss CMM to check any of the features so the actual data is somewhat debatable. Still a great video. Although DMG Mori makes a good product I still think Mori Seiki made a better product on their own.
@fabianm65293 жыл бұрын
@@caseycarpenter79 I would expect that all Measurements made after 3:12 are done with a Zeiss Prismo CMM, not with the CNC mill. You can see the machine in the video
@caseycarpenter792 жыл бұрын
@@fabianm6529 You are correct. The Prismo is equipped with the VAST scanning head and software from Zeiss. The features on the part they are checking can be scanned with the CMM providing more data points rather than single point probing.

17 years ago, I started my career as a machinist. Beginning my studies in a roll die shop, running a few Mori-Seiki's live tooling turning centers. 6 machine shops later, over 25 different CNC machines programming for, setting up for, and personally running, Mori's are still am besten!!!!!

the productivity of the machine is based on the programming. If the programming is shit then the productivity is shit as well.
@Sketch19942 жыл бұрын
@@ipadize I program a DMG Mori M1 and I totally agree. While it's an entry level VMC there is just so much productive potential to squeeze out of it through advanced programming techniques. Tightening the transitions and employing arc linking techniques to minimize decceleration and maximize minimum velocity, TSPing all the feature patterns, prestaging tools and optimizing toolpaths and feeds and speeds (we had a part were it was 2 seconds faster to run it at 10k RPM vs 12k RPM due to spindle ramp time on the top end of the curve). But then again when working with small parts with very small actual machining time, out of the box fixturing and imaginative processes is the way to go.

Sad that it isn't the complete machining, with only glimpses it's far from. Would also be very interesting with comments to why specific tools and tool paths were chosen. ASM uses rectangular Quartz glass chambers. Applied Science machines use the round sone process chambers. Both are hand built with much tighter tolerances by glass welders in the scientific glassblowing world. Using 99.97% or higher purity Quartz.

This is just the housing unit. I am a scientific glassblower and Quartz welder. We build the actual process chamber by hand with tighter tolerances. Interesting to see the housing for “lower domes” in a centauri style from Applied Materials. There is also a completely different style of Quartz process chamber that is square (not round like in the video) from ASM. Those are MUCH MUCH more difficult to build. The glass that goes inside the housing is about $125k all in with all the parts.
