Even though I don't understand the language, I still enjoy this piece immensely. All I know is, Shostakovich was a genius. Thank you so much for uploading this magnificent cantata,

A great piece and the first 5 minutes must be some of the most exciting music Shostakovich wrote.

Vintage late Shosty, always a miracle of his originality

Oh my word, I've considered myself as a Shostakovich fanatic for several years, and there are still so many pieces by him I haven't heard, my god, this piece is sooo exciting. That bell of doom that appears dozen times is goddamn frightening. Such a genius.

must be his most underrated piece along with the michelangelo suite such dread and rage is poured out the loud and alarming episodes are great but those quiet and chilling parts that take up much of the piece are amazing too

The scene at 20:32 is so filled with grief and rage, simmering under the manic oboe solo, it gives me shivers every time.

One of his best works; I think it's great.

The opening theme is very similar to a theme he used in the Allegretto furioso from his 10th string quartet, composed around the same time.
