I danced my first "Viennese Waltz" in Philadelphia way back in 1954. I and my partner were the only people on the floor. Nobody else knew what to do, obviously. She was from Europe, so I simply followed her. (Let it be said that I was very good at dancing the "German beerhall" waltz.) After the dance, an old lady came up and said, "that was such a beautiful sight". I guess we did a good job of it. Nowadays, people can't dance anything right. LOL
@alastairpreston32373 жыл бұрын
At a company party in 1973, with about 250 attendees of a wide age range, the band stopped the usual dance fare and announced they were going to play a set of Viennese waltzes - The Skaters Waltz, Gold and Silver, and the Blue Danube. By the time they started the last there were three people left sitting. Many of the dancers simply followed the folk who did know how. My partner and I had a basic idea - and I was familiar with the music, so we managed all three, though we didn't try any of the fancier moves.

Dmitri Shostakovich's The Second Waltz is undoubtedly one of the best known waltzes in general. But who knows The First Waltz of him? When there is the waltz No. 2 it should be also the waltz No. 1. Some people consider as waltz No. 1 the waltz theme included in Jazz Suite No. 1 next to the waltz No. 2. But others believe that the waltz No. 1 is in the music Shostakovich wrote for the movie "Golden Mountain" by Sergei Yutkevich from 1936. And this one slitely worked over by me I used as cover making this video. I hope you like both, the music and the video.

We will never dance like this anymore, except in very special situations, but this sort of dances - not only waltz - is not what people nowadays dance when they feast. And that´s quite sad. At a time not only in the imperial courts but even at humble taverns beautiful dances - more aristocratic, more popular - were danced.
@johokeen17 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean Josephine Gonzalaz. To be honest few men like or care to dance these days to traditional dances like the waltz. I have always loved the waltz. I watched a movie called the Last Waltz when I was in junior school and fell in love with the Blue Danube. That began my journey into Johann Strauss Jr.'s popular pieces. To be able to waltz to such glorious music with a happy partner would be divine!!

I would love this I have such a love for this sort of dance and social setting, but I hate modern clubs. These dances have more skill and the whole event was built to actually meet people. There'd be times during the ball music would be a lot quieter designed as background music to talk to people there. Sometimes I have vivid dreams of going back to this time and one time I went to a stately home in England and I felt deja vu, and this was when I was 6, my mum told me I said I loved dancing with my husband there and that that freaked her out, as I've got older I've felt more and more of a connection to the time period of the early 1800s, and a man always appears in my dreams, one I feel love for. It seems mad but it's so weird and feels real

Whow what a beautiful compilation to such a piece of music which even closer to art than music. These dances and views proof that. Because none of them can be greater than that moment, the walz, and not any battle. Surely not by the man with the little moustache who spoke weirdly opposed only what you like to see in anger and above all disappointed everyone, even to some who thought he had something greater to speak about. Like all prophecies death is clouded around them.. FY

Not sure about phenomenal strength, but endurance, yes. In my 20's, I once danced a set of three Viennese waltzes (Les Patineurs, Gold and Silver, and the full Blue Danube) in a row. I wasn't at all sure we could handle another one. The thing that surprised me most was that out of a mixed age crowd of 250, by the time the last waltz started there were only three people left sitting!
