Yep! A lot of people put water tanks, batteries, generators...etc... under there. I've been liking having standalone water tanks which I can remove from the van to fill, since when I stay in various places often times getting the van to where the water is isn't possible. Plus, I don't need that much water since I don't have indoor bathroom facilities in there anyway

Great to see this can be done, I've been looking all over for a guide!.. any chance you'd make more of the frame brackets to install myself?

Thanks for the comment! I'm not a professional fabricator by any means, so I don't make anything for sale. You could probably get away without welding anything by just bolting a piece of C-channel through the frame. C channel is usually much thicker steel than what the stock ones are made out of.

Great video. Your video did not show the side of the basket closest to the rear bumper and I’m curious how those hooks got installed. Are you able to send any photos. Also how large a tire can the Mercedes carrier hold?
@DmitriyAdv8 ай бұрын
I had that question initially too, but there is really only one way it can go. It will seem a little loose initially, but once you tighten them down it's really not going anywhere. I don't think you can fit anything much larger than stock in that carrier. I have an all terrain in there, which is maybe a little bit larger overall diameter due to being "knobby". It fits fine, but I don't know if you could go much bigger. This is one of the reasons people get the rear door carriers.

Thanks for the video. Can you post pix of the rear bumper area where the hook bolts attach to the frame?
@DmitriyAdv7 ай бұрын
@@TimFairman Hi Tim, the bolts go through the holes in the bumper that are covered by little plastic covers in the bumper cover. There is really only one way in which they can go.

Great video Dimitry. I am in the same boat and my Sprinter doesn't have spare wheel carrier brackets welded to the frame I am looking to get some brackets made and wondered if you could share the dimensions of the bracket you made? Or any diagrams you may have? Would really appreciate it - thanks

@@benmay1771 Mine are 7 inches top to bottom with the horizontal support welded about 2 inches from the top. The hole that goes through the frame is drilled about 3/4 inch from the top. The bottom hole where the carrier attaches is drilled about 3/4 inch from the bottom. They don’t have to be super precise and you can get a pretty good idea by just measuring your van. If you take the van and the carrier (with the tire) to whomever is making them, they should be able to make it easily by just eyeballing it.
