He really brings spark to the platform. To him, standing second on that podium, he might as well of been last. I hope he wins gold for 2012.

Watch old school weightlifting. They used to strict press more or similar to what they jerked. In the jerk you need a clean lock, where the press you can muscle it up.

@edge9090 apparently the russians train their lifters in a more balanced way...they don't just train the oly lifts but bench, deadlift, row etc

@edge9090 thats cool man...yeah i read a louie simmons article on how the bulgarians stuck to the classic lifts and no supporting excerises for training and the russians did the opposite, i think the article is on the westside barbell site

@HIGGSER94 All you need is a squat rack, thick rubber matts to protect your floor, a sturdy bench and a good Olympic weight set with 500+ pounds of plates. Some commercial gyms frown on heavy lifting, but these are the people that stay members for the long haul. Find a good local gym that's heavy lifting friendly. I'd love to visit Ireland. Saw glimpses in the Movie "It Might Get Loud" with the Edge from U2. U2 played the last 360 Tour show in Moncton, NB, 1 hour from PEI with 75,000 fans.

@HIGGSER94 A 400lb bench would help in the jerk, you would think. Do they share their methods with other countries? My background is Powerlifting. I coach a high school team in Canada with two of our boys going to the IPF World Juniors in 2011. One has a 1360lb raw total.
@MaximFIN8812 жыл бұрын
@edge9090 i think thats 160kg in this video.. hes doing easy triple.. i would not be suprised if he can do 200kg bench.. but, i dont know :) i think its part of training program in some period of training season but dont really know how many times in week and how many reps or something like that.. it would be interesting to know..

I got a feeling we are gonna see something crazy in 2012 olympics
@MellonVegan12 жыл бұрын
Depends on the lifter. Matthias Steiner for example (the German Olympic champion of Beijing) is a real competition guy who exceeds his training results by far in competition. Guys like Salimi, Akkaev and most of the Chinese (supposedly) have lifted weights far beyond the world records in training but sometimes fail to do so in competition. Just due to the fact that even for these guys perfect technique/a perfect lift is hard to achieve. Now that is assuming that you meant Olympic weightlifting.
@edge909012 жыл бұрын
@MaximFIN88 Thanks. Is strict overhead pressing something these guys do as well?

@anthraxale He can push press 225kg with little leg drive. He can probably bench near 200kg.

@edge9090 i was lifting in a place called East Coast Barbell for a year but then it closed down, really good warehouse gym...mostly for olympic lifters but still 10x better than commercial gyms. I hope to open my own warehouse style gym when i leave school....hahaha i watched that film recently....mainly we have strength coaches looking after us because i play rugby the leinster junior team, look up Leinster rugby to see what we're about. So I can't sway off my program...damn

This was fun to watch and very impressive. Interesting to see him bench pressing. Is it part of his training and how much was on the bar? I used to compete in bench and am curious what a champion of this caliber can bench even though it's not his main lift.

Most weightlifters have some degree of tendonitis in their knees. The wraps are probably to help keep his knees warm/ loose.
@MaximFIN8813 жыл бұрын
@BDFPA before he fail in test, he is clean,,, thats why we have WADA and all doping controll, to show which athletes are not doing this like its in rules.. me myself dont understand anything about steroids or others drugs.. so i cant say anything about it,,, but i know that Klokov have train full time many many years with great coaches, he is talented lifter, good competitor, amazing technique and spirit of champion ;) it was an honour to watch this man lifting in paris! :)

It'd make sense for him to push press 225. He incorporates alot of bench in his training. Its really hard to fake a push press with red 25kilo plates. Just look at him, he's a monster.

@BDFPA He's an Olympic lifter so he's definitely a candidate for testing. I saw WADA in the comment before. I think it's the World Anti Doping Association but I'm not sure. The IOC has banned many athletes for positive tests so it's going in the right direction. Olympic lifters, especially the lighter classes, are in amazing shape. Walking machines.

@HIGGSER94 Powerlifting will most definitely make you a bigger, stronger and more powerful Rugby player. You'll be amazed how fast you progress if you stick to a program for a year. I had a kid total 775lbs in his first meet and two years later he was at 1275lbs and a Canadian Junior Champion going to Worlds with a 575 deadlift.
@yesfan15712 жыл бұрын
It's just that if he really is pressing 225kg, then split jerking over 236kg should be a walk in the fucking park for Klokov. Perhaps I am mistaken, but it just seems so unreal to me that he could press that much weight. Either way, he is a beast.
