This is great gentle introduction to the digital side of Amateur radio which seems to be really taking off. Anyone thinking about exploring the idea of getting involved, be it a seasoned Ham used to RF and HF or a newly licensed beginner can often hit an explosion of new terms, hardware, software, cables, and can quickly become a bit overwhelming and even puts some people off. $500!!!!! For a hotspot? They cost less than $30 to make. I'll bet they have not sold any of them?. I usually by my boards from Amazon and add a RPi Zero 2W to them for a total cost of about $30.

Amateur Radio ThumbDV ($120) plus BlueDV (free) plus windows pc will get you on DMR, DStar, Fusion, and NXDN!

You can also connect a hotspot with BlueDV. It worked for me.
