Dead malls are like liminal spaces. You feel like you’ve been there even when you haven’t.

When I first went to a dead mall, it was a mall from my childhood. It made me feel super weird seeing a mall I grew up going to with a single family and with maybe 10% occupied. I've grown to appreciate dead malls and the ones I appreciate were ones that I never grew up with. I love the lack of people as I hate dealing with them and I love less people getting in the way. The aesthetic of dead malls is unmatched and I'll forever love them more than the overcrowded ones.

Dan, this is exactly what youtube is for. Quirky subject, artistic vision, experimental editing. You're not jamming ads down our throats, you're not editing this purely for the algorithm. You're just creating art that you obviously love creating. It's so nice to see. Very appreciative of what you produce my dude!

Thank you so much for this video. I met my husband when I worked at Bath & Body Works and he worked at Gold Buyers at the Mall in 2012 and I just never thought to capture photos or videos inside before we moved away and before it closed. Now I can always come back to it. Thank you again.

That’s amazing! Also, and you may or may not be aware of this, but they are now officially demolishing the mall.

Your videos were my gateway into dead malls, hotels and also vaporwave. I became a huge fan of Dan Mason because of you including his music in your Dead Mall videos, and from there it introduced me to a genre that I didn't know existed and ultimately fell in love with. Thank you so much for that and everything you do.

Cafe Europa is still open in the uniquely not dead Laurel Mall in Hazleton, PA. The food isn't bad and if you ever get up that way check it out. The design is from the very early 2000's and French which is odd considering they specialize in Italian food and coffees. As for the history - If I recall correctly, the Laurel Mall location was the first, and that opened about 20 years ago. They also once had a smaller satellite location in the Wyoming Valley Mall in Wilkes-Barre that served only specialty coffees and paninis (no pizza or dinners). That closed several years ago and was eventually replaced with a Cinnabon. I never knew that a third location existed in Phillipsburg.

Always am impressed with your productions if not just for taking time to credit the music mix and even as far as sound effects you use. That's a rarity around these parts, some of these channels lift stuff off of bandcamp and refuse to not only credit the artist but refuse to ID the song if people ask. Not okay

I worked at this mall at Babbages growing up. The death of the mall was kicking the food court out to move a H & M in.

@@noroomforsquares4483 the cafe was a million different things through the lifetime of the mall. It was not the creepy cafe at that time lol . I think it was a pizza place ( around Xmas 2000)

You’re pretty close to the Logan Valley mall. It’s a bit more rough than Philipsburg mall. Last time I walked through it I choked up a bit because it was an important place for me and my friends growing up. It’s currently kinda hanging on by a thread. A couple of stores were actively packing up their stock as I was browsing. Might still have a bit of time to check it out if it interests you.

My mom mentioned her local mall (Colonial Park Mall in Harrisburg PA) is doing really bad. A bunch of stores just closed, so it'll probably look like this as well soon enough. They announced the Bleacher Bums, Buffalo Wild WIngs and a few others are closing, and the Auntie Ann's is closed already. I think the only anchor still there is Boscov's, and that's not doing well.
