I love how this song perfectly sums up the anger and angst of being a teenage dropout. Shit parents, apathy, drugs, xbox 😂 So emotional, doesn't hold back at all - it's fucking ruthless, I love it soooo much!! 🤟🤟
@willasacco98982 жыл бұрын
That’s it🥲
@carlpeterson81822 жыл бұрын
I agree but I think it more as a song from the POV of a teen who has seen and done way too much. Felt too much. And the parents and others have responded by medicating him. I do not think the teenager in the song is lying but I do not take his thoughts or views as gospel either. It is his experience which may not completely conform to reality.
@willasacco98982 жыл бұрын
@@carlpeterson8182 I agree. Neither life nor SW’s lyrics are simple and pure black and white.
@adrianaslund86052 жыл бұрын
It was also pretty accurate to my early 20's. But yeah the mind numbing effects of the internet the ADD medication I used to get through the day after not being able to pull myself from the computer all night and the inability to relate to anyone socially. All of that was true to my teens. Then in my early 20's alcohol came into the picture and I found a way to bear hanging with others because of it. But without it im locked inside myself and socially apathetic. Also because of the internet I felt like the years just passed me by and all my immediate needs were met. That made time fly while everyone else acted like there was a huge difference between being 15 and 18. It was all the same to me and adulthood felt like a sham. Its made worse by the lack of awareness by older generations, the lack of maturity rituals or anything that would strengthen your identity as an adult. Materialistically and in terms of immediate challenges you might be curled. Which kind of takes away from your ability and self confidence in dealing with the world independently. (something that marks out many millennials from gen x. You need challenges and the confidence to deal with them independently to function as an adult) but socially your'e impoverished. And humans do not exist in a vacuum. We are all social animals.

I was lucky I saw this show back in 2007 in a small venue , fifteen feet from the stage……Gavin Harrison is a monster, I ended watching him for most of the show…..they were really loud , this particular venue had a lot of older hippies that would go to all the shows no matter who was playing….I saw one group leave saying …” these guys are really good but I can’t take the volume anymore I got to get out of here”. …it was beautiful!!!!

Paul Reed Smith made a custom guitar for PT's touring guitarist Wes so he could play the acoustic sections of songs like this live. That guitar became the prototype for one of PRS' later guitar models.

Wilson's lyrics are usually from the perspective of a character he makes up. Rarely from his own experience. I don't think he sees his Mom as a b!tch. I'm pretty sure this whole album has one main character and his/her relationship with addictions ranging from video games to drugs. And how these addictions affect one's mentality through life. Parallels to Anesthetize too: "How can I be sure I'm here" and "I simply am not here" "The pills that I've been taking confuse me" and "Only apathy from the pills in me" "Terminally bored. Shuffling 'round the stores" and "Shuffling through the stores like zombies"
@V.F.D.DaleSalvador2 жыл бұрын
I believe that this album is based on a book called Lunar Park (I think). The book originally is from the fathers perspective, and in this album is a concept album, the gimmick being the album is the same story but from the father's son's perspective.

Ah fun, I worked that show, helping out Front of House guy Ian Bond. His desk crashed half an hour before show but he got it running again in time. Always enjoyed working with Ian. Extremely dry sense of humor. Very English. The videoteam was from Denmark and they brought a shitload of equipment and took the whole day to set it up exasperating Ian: "it's like LEGO, isn't it?"

Seeing what you both get into, I reckon you'd love the last Dissection record called Reinkaos. Extremely influential band from the 90's. The top tier albums are their classics, but for you, I just know their last album is your jam 100%. I would recommend listening to the third track Starless Aeon. It's crunchy, easy to groove to, and just pure evil in terms of its context and message. Also knowing it was his final album before taking his own life, and essentially him spreading the word of his beliefs to influence others to delve. RIP Jon Nödtveidt. I may not believe what you did, but you had your ultimate calling in your own mind to spread the word.

It's been nearly 20 years since I met these guys and their fantastic album In Absentia. Even if PT is a band, Steven Wilson had more or less all control and for me there is a continuity with his solo work. I consider PT as S Wilson's own project and for me there is nothing to reject from the whole S Wilson's work.

The visuals behind come from the music video. Worth a watch. Also, worth reading the lyrics as it makes very clear what the song is about which gives the music much more gravitas. This is the one song of PT where I think the studio version sounds better (I nearly always prefer the live) although the live is great, too.
@scifimonkey32 жыл бұрын
Still some more classics to go from the Tilburg concert but at some point you need to listen to some songs from Steven and the band he put together for his solo work, Check out almost anything from the ‘Home invasion’ concert at the Royal Albert hall from 2018. “Refuge” or “Ancestral” would be a good start. Different band behind him, same amazing music.
