Geds bass line on DM is insane. I have worshiped in the halls of RUSH since I was 15. I am 64 now and I still am in awe of these 3 kings. My husband and I have seen them over 50 times in the last 35 years. There’s NO other band that can touch them, especially LIVE!! I listen to them almost exclusively. I don’t need any other music in my life. Love that you guys love them too. We RUSH fans are a devout and close knit group…….we love nothing more than seeing others join our family. Welcome!! KEEP RUSHIN. 🤘🤘🤘

Well said. I listen to maybe 4 other bands besides Rush on a semi-regular basis, but a good 90 percent of the time, I'm listening to Rush when I listen to music. I'm a fanatic going back to 1976. One of the non-Rush bands I like idolized Rush and tried to emulate them, but wanted to be more "accessible" to the great unwashed. That's probably why they're my second-favorite band, albeit in a different universe than Rush. Keep Rushing indeed.

They were kings, and kind wise kings who loved their fans all along the 40 plus year way. A fond farewell to kings. What a cruel blow life had for Neil, but what a wonderful musical and written legacy he has left us. Best wishes from Devon, UK.

I had heard working man and at a party someone had 2112 on a shitty stereo and nothing clicked, about a year later during a blizzard listening to a collage radio station on a system that I still have today a song came on that blew me away, XANADU, I cant fully explain the emotion but sitting home in a blizzard and dreaming of wanting to live in a tropical paradise is all I could think about for years. Yes I finally moved to Florida 7 years later and everytime I see weather reports from up north of snow I start humming XANADU. Best Rush song to me.

It's amazing how much Geddy's bass carries the melody in their songs. This is an example of one of their truly prog rock songs. Yet Alex still shreds that solo like a metal guitarist. And even when the drums aren't a focal point if you listen to what Neil does with them it's just amazing. Rush: The Holy Trinity ladies and gentlemen! I agree there's so much joy and positivity in their music. I think it comes from their own pure joy of the music. After the success of 2112, they gained the freedom to do their own thing. It lead to some ups and downs especially mid to late 80's and a couple of struggles in the way they each wanted to go. But, they worked together and found their way and came out of that period without having to break up. Their story is beautiful. If you ever get the chance, since you are full on fans now, watch the documentary "Beyond the Lighted Stage." It chronicles their full journey up to the mid-2010's just before they stopped touring. Great reaction guys!

From a Canadian fan, aren't they a gift to music? I saw them for the first time in the 70s. They backed up Nazareth. I had no idea at the time that they were so good. You just kind of accepted them as who they were and it was a very trippy thing. Thank you for your reactions!!

Digital Man is my favorite track on Signals, you can really see the influence that bands like The Police and styles like reggae and new wave had on the band. The true definition of a Prog Rock band, they were able to take snippets of what was going on or even just developing at the time and incorporate it. Just perfection.

Rush had that amazing ability to write music and songs in the moment, for each album, they didn't let songs or demo ideas simmer from previous albums, maybe a riff or two but they wrote each and every time in the studio for the moment, for that recording session; the main reason they have zero demos, outtakes, b-sides; if something didn't work, if one member did not like a song being written, they would completely abandon it, leave it behind and keep going...they wrote for themselves first, if the fans liked it, that was the plus.

I've seen them live 9 times. I also had the privilege of meeting Geddy and his wife at a Toronto Maple Leafs playoff game around 1980. Such a gentleman and so friendly! I saw them live 27 times between 1984 and 2015. And I wish I had seen them more. Every concert was 2-3 hours of what you just experienced in this song. So many good songs to go too. They produced albums from 1974 to 2012. For all 3 soloing at 1 time you have to listen to Freewill. It would be awesome to have you react to the studio version and then the Time Machine version (live in 2011 - 32 years after the song's release in 1980) to see how much better the live version really is. I would pay for that!! Or, fine, just do the Time Machine version. You guys aren't ready to listen to the whole Time Machine concert anyway, it was almost 3 hours of them playing like this, ending with that Working Man version you already reacted to!!!
@ZIG4ZAG202 жыл бұрын
16 for me in the exact same time period. Here in the SE of the USA, the concerts weren’t as saturated at arenas as say the NE or West Coast especially after the 80’s when they dialed back their touring schedule. Wish I could have seen a bunch more myself.

I believe Alex is playing his Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess Standard from Epiphone. It does have a Floyd Rose vibrato as well as piezo bridge saddles which have their own output plug on the guitar and provide acoustic tones separate from the humbuckers. If you notice Alex uses a ninety-degree dual jack cable system which allows him to run the humbucker output through a different signal chain than the piezo output and he can actually play both at the same time which sounds like he has acoustic accompaniment.

You are right about Rush influencing many bands like Dream Theatre, Tool, and Metallica. However as Rush was changing their sound in the 80's, they became influenced by bands like the Police and Talking Heads.

It’s ok what he does to the bass. It’s a consensual relationship. Lol. And Alex’s guitar is a custom Gibson that has a Floyd rose and a piezo in it. Gibson released a limited amount of them and then about 2 years ago Epiphone worked with Alex to recreate it in a cheaper option. Think it sold for around $800-$900 when released and sold out immediately. Selling second hand for $1500+. This song and this entire album (signals) is so damn good even with the synths.
