I blew the engine in my 2019 Everest 3.2 thanks to the EGR cooler dumping the engine coolant into the inlet manifold. The car still had 4 months warranty left and had done 113,000km. I was 50km north of Townsville 3000km from home. Ford roadside assist organized a flat top to the Tville Ford dealer, a hire car which was a new Everest platinum and paid for my accommodation for the 4 weeks it took Ford to source a new donk and fit it in my car. Unbelievable service, I couldn't believe it.

In the turbo return line to sump you shouldn’t have any oil pressure as the design is meant to be 3 times larger than the feed line to the turbo so after it’s passed the bearing or bush in the turbo it’s pressure drops to zero and gravity feeds back to the sump so therefore you won’t have a drop in oil pressure causing the oil light to come on until the sump is out of oil and the pump can’t get oil

Hi mate, It only takes a very small amount of PSI only a pound or 2 to turn the oil pressure warning light off, you REALLY need a capillary oil gauge that will show you the exact oil pressure ALL THE TIME. Those dash light indicators come on as the engine goes BANG, and that's way too late. I've been a mechanic all my life and an NRMA roadside patrolman for 17yrs and I've seen this again and again and again. I've said to people before, did the oil light come on, and they always said, YES, after the engine went bang and I'm talking 100kph and it goes bang. Take care. Seeya Rob

Hi, unfortunate at what happened with the Ranger. I do a lot of outback travels, eg Simpson desert 18 times, Canning Stock Route in my GQ Patrol with my brother. We have had situations where we have had to fix things and where not mechanics, but very mechanically minded and knowledgeable. Don't take this the wrong way, but, you said in the video you're a qualified mechanic, and noticed under the vehicle there was a lot of oil splattered. Thought you would had done more investigation of where the oil was coming from. I had oil leaking from engine in out back QLD, found a pin hole leak in one of the two oil filters. Changed oil and filters on the trip at Cairns. What I'm saying, i looked until I found it. All in all, glad Ford looked after you.

All of the pre 2023 Amarok’s (VW manufactured) 4 banger and V6’s all have sensors that alert you (dash light) if the sump oil level is too high or too low. They also have a sensor in the coolant reservoir for low coolant level and will alert you if you were to do a radiator hose and instantly drop coolant. A mechanic friend has a 2018 Wildtrack that had the EGR let go at a 110kph a few years ago, dropped the coolant onto the ground and within a short distance the engine completely seized with absolutely no warning and initially he had absolutely no idea on what just happened, but get this, there is a low fluid sensor in his windshield washer bottle. 🤔🤷‍♂️

And this was the car to go to the outback away from service centres. Glad your situation worked out but I have zero confidence in my car and would happily give it back for 100% of the purchase price. My Disco 4 had the same issue, same engine, dropped all its oil at 25000kms and needed to be rebult. Not surprised they havent fixed this return line problem. The next big issue to watch out for is the crank shaft snapping at 50000ish kms. Not all do it, but its common problem with these engines. Love Discos, still have one and a Ranger as well.

I had an engine failure in a bi turbo ranger due to a turbo seal letting go which pumped oil into the intake hydrolocking the motor. Ford service was fantastic!!. We are from vic and were in outback Queensland towing a van with 3 young kids. They sent a tow truck with a car on it for us to drive to the next town. The tow truck then took the ranger and van to the next town, set us up at the caravan park while the ford dealership got straight onto the ranger to diagnose the problem. Once diagnosed that it was a catastrophic failure ford flew us home, put us in a hire car and when the ranger was repaired it was sent on a truck with our van to our door at no cost to us. As an ex Auto Elect we know that oil pressure switches generally only bring on the light around seven psi. By the time the light comes on it's over red rover. I had an oil pressure switch blow out on my old six banger EL falcon on the M4 doing a 110kph, it was lucky that I spotted some smoke coming out the back that I pulled over and witnessed the next Exxon Valdez. I checked the dipstick and gambled that I could get about five KM down the road to get some oil. I have had mixed results from getting thing fixed on various Fords. My EL falcon blew an A/C compressor and they fitted a new compressor without changing the receiver drier or flushing the system. I knew they hadn't flushed it as we used to flush them at my workshop, yep it crapped itself after the warranty ran out. I did have an issue with my PX Ranger, it blew a turbo hose just out of warranty. I took it back to the local Ford dealer and the service manager stated that since I had not had it serviced at Ford, he would fit the hose for free if I purchased a new hose at spare parts. I declined his offer as the hoses are garbage and purchased a silicone hose from a local parts supplier and it takes a couple of seconds to fit. Unbelievably at the sixty thousand km service they claimed my front pads were over sixty percent worn, the vehicle is a manual and I am not a harsh driver. I just replaced them at one hundred and sixty five thousand KM. I guess that Ford make the decision they make on what value they can get from publicity. That is my personal view considering the experiences I have had with them. I love my PX Ranger and would consider another Ranger at later date.

My Wildtrak has done about 16000km. And had the 15000km service done on time. I watch your video just the other day. Great buy the way. Today I went to leave my garage and look at that oil on the floor. I got underneath and look at that it looks like its coming from the pipe you are talking about. So thanks its booked in tomorrow. Maybe it may be a problem and a recall in needed. ??

You left out RACQ Ultimate Care, you mentioned Ultra Care which comes second best. They certainly DO cover towing a caravan (I have used this twice) and the last time from Laura to Cooktown, caravan was towed and the car put on a flat bed truck. They have reduced the number of kms I think but it stands at 200km for car and caravan to be towed for free to the nearest RACQ depot.

Met a diesel mac whilst on a hunting trip. He was contracted to maintain all the vehicles for a company that owns a series of game/ hunting farms in South Africa, mostly cat earth moving equipment and of course 70 series Land Cruisers with 1HZs and 1VDs. He has been a Ford man his whole life, his dad was a ford man. Until he bought a Ford Ranger 3.2 it almost cost him a contract because it broke down on the way to a remote jobsite to do a repair. Needless to say he now owns two Hiluxes. 😂

I have a PX3 Ranger and have had a chassis replacement and engine replacement all under warranty with the same loan car or rental car treatment as you received. Ford even paid my canopy manufacturer to remove and replace after the chassis replacement so that there were no problems with the wiring as well. Yes it’s worrying to have problems but I had complete contact from ford Australia and from the dealership here in Brisbane as well. I am not a ford man but at the beginning of covid I purchased the Ranger for a steel as a demo so that’s how I came to own one. It has been all over qld and the NT towing as well. Happy motoring.

They think it was just a factory turbo fault. Ford were awesome to deal with. They gave me a loan vehicle (the service managers Ranger) and paid for our accommodation (camp fees) as we were full time living in a caravan. Service was 100%. I love my V6 Ranger but that was a big hick up at the start.

14:18 Ive got the 2015 5cly Everest, and that was one of the things I read up with people having the DPF valves go aswell as when its in tow the temps can get up, so got trans-cooler and oil and fuel filters installed but the standard coolant gauge on the everest, jumped 20-40c before the gauge even moved and stories I heard was that people had this happen to them and they got to 150c before it went into limp mode but no indication what so ever. Installed the ultragauge and fair enough 38c towing 3tonne and the ultragauge showed the temps by the second but the gauge on the dash said nothing. Pays to install an ultragauge or equivalent cause these newer cars hide all the details you really need

You ask about experience of support with other vehicles. I had a breakdown of an Ineos Grenadier (a failed pressure sensor). Response from Ineos Assist was first rate. I was in outback Queensland. They had a flat bed tow truck to me within 2 hours. Took vehicle AND van to Toowoomba. Covered hotel accomodation, hire car and eventually a flight back to Melbourne and then a return flight to collect (they offered to deliver to Melbourne at no charge). That was pretty good roadside Assistance from Ineos (included in purchase price)

Great story and service from Ford. I own a 2018 Disco TDv6 and also experienced catastrophic engine failure. Waited 6 mth’s for the vehicle to be repaired with new engine, turbo etc. Within 3 days of receiving my Disco I sent it back with a leak on a turbo pipe!!! My question to you out there, is the new Ranger/Amarok v6 not fitted with the same motor as the Disco TDv6 powered Discovery?
@dirtymuddyweekends
@dirtymuddyweekends 7 ай бұрын
It's unfortunate to hear about your experience with your Discovery TDv6. While both the new Ranger/Amarok V6 and the Discovery TDv6 are powered by 3.0-liter V6 diesel engines, they may not be exactly the same. The specific configurations, tuning, and components may vary between manufacturers and models, which could account for differences in reliability and performance. It's always best to consult with experts or review detailed specifications to understand the specific differences between these engines.
@Baustakar
@Baustakar 2 ай бұрын
They had the same engine but the new Rangers have a revisioned version.(At least Ford said so) The old version(Ford Lion/Rover TDv6) destroyed the bearing shells or had cracking crankshafts(There are only 4! BMW has 6 or 7 in their 6 cylinder engines) and not enough oil pressure when pushing it down coming from low rpm. Unfortunately I've got no details what they changed. I hoped to find something.

Modern vehicles nowadays have too many sensors and most are to do with emissions. Not "hey driver check ya oil or coolant". I used to have a px1 ranger and that was bad enough now I've got two 70 series and I can't get over how basic they are for a modern vehicle. I guess Toyota used the motto "if it ain't broke it ain't worth fixing"

It's amazing how they allow unroadworthy cars back out and not take responsibility. Had to wait week for them to get part then another two weeks before they could ever book in to fix. Not only that had to fight to get a loan car for the day as they say it's under warranty and don't sell allow loan cars. Why do big dealer ships not show as much care about customers safely like small business
