I bought his mixtape before he got shot (How to rob was on it) and was amazed. A few months later he was mega huge! Also, DMX is very underrated. Dude was a beast and he wasn't scared of going against anyone. He poured his heart into his music. I remember, before he died, watching videos of him reading Scriptures and crying. Such a tormented soul trying his best to do right. He knew too much about the darkness of the music industry. I hope he's in heaven.

I was born in 92' Brooklyn NY, I feel like Big Gipp my Uncle from the south dropping gems on me about the rap game, giving me personal perspective and challenging my bias. He gave context according to history, even though I was a major fan of all kinds of rappers from different regions, I alway held Jay on a pedestal, likely because of my geography and the fact that he is a captivating rapper in terms of painting pictures of the lavish life of ballers and ex drug dealers in a Scorsese like way with production from the best producers of our generation but I have to admit like Big Gipp said "it's technical" i don't feel much of anything from his records as I do other artist, especially from the south.

Lies. Jay isn't regional and was hot when G Unit was on top. The Black Album went multiplatinum and everybody was rockin button-ups. Jay has also appealed to.other regions and specifically catered his style to appeal to all regions. Dude is envious af and wants to say its because he's from NY. If Jay kept just a NY sound, he would have not gone past Reasonable Doubt popularity though it originally went gold which was very hard to do in 1996 with all of the competition and blew up Foxy. Foh

When everyone was alive it was still Big Nas and Jay to me. Jay and Big was going back bar for bar. If they didn’t die, everyone would’ve just gotten hungrier. Jays career was just beginning when pac died and he was still relevant that’s why Pac was mentioning him. Now PAC was a star, crazy work ethic and made hits. Can’t take that away from him but Jay has atleast 4/5 classic albums. Blueprint is flawless. Reasonable Doubt is flawless. Black Album etc. I think everyone would’ve rose to the occasion musically but yes Pac was definitely the biggest star.

50 Cents peak years were during Jay Z's retirement. Get Rich or Die Trying came out early 2003 and Jay Zs Black Album dropped in late 2003. By the time Jay Z came back in late 2006, 50 had dropped another giant album, Gunit had dropped one while each of it's members had dropped two, with the exception of Yayo. The Gunit legacy pretty much went downhill from there but those year of 03-07 were big for 50. Jay is a guy who's just been at the top for a very long time. He might not have two records that sold 8 and 10m like 50. But he has over 10 albums that have steadily sold 2m-5m over 3 decades. Longevity.

DMX had New York as the best and 50 Album shut down everybody. Back 2 back hits. Jay Z dont have that. Most of Jay Z good work is with Kanye anyway, and look how he did him, ppl 4get. His raise has been through Beyonce. Back in the day, Murder Ink was shuting it down. The numbers dont add up to that with Rockafeller. Big Gip is speaking straight facts. I grew up in chuck town sc, and went to college at Tsu (1996-200) in Nashville Tn. Every region had their own sound but still recognized the other regions. That being said let’s be clear; Jay was never ever ever in the conversation as one of the best. Mid to late nineties the universally accepted top mc’s out of nyc was Rakim, Kane, G-rap, Nas, PAC, Big, DMX, LL, and all of Wu. Everything and everyone else was on some second tier shit. Real talk even Nelly was banging and running it for a few years. Jay was never in the conversation 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️

That’s very insightful, if it’s sincere. New Yorkers are “ UNBELIEVABLY BIASED “ against anyone that’s not from there, except for the pure “ UNADULTERATED HATRED “ you all have for Tupac.
