I don't know if it's the best music. Its that rap/hip hop was tryin to make a name for itself because rap was looked down upon as no good music.Rap was tryin to find its identity to belong in music period because there was rock, country, reggae,r and b,heavy metal, house music, instrumental orchestra, band, and pop.countrRap didn't deserve to be in a category. Now it's in a category of its own genre.Rap hip hop is the most popular music in the u.s.Others countries are immulating it with thier language. But rap was born here in the U.S. in inner city neighborhoods in New York,Los Angeles,Chicago, and Houston.Look it up on you tube popular music rap blows everything out the water because there is alot of money in the hip hop entertainment. It found its identity and it won.I like rap but other look at me crazy because they like old rock, country music, heavy metal them dudes are cool cuz they like rap too.But those country music and old rock don't respect hip hop.To each and there own taste of music, but I think all other music is garbage Rap I can relate cuz I grew up in a tough inner city in a major city and I could relate cuz they went through the same shit I went through. ✌.

Summer of 1998, I'm from Jersey but I went to the Greek picnic at Fairmount Park that year and X had it on smash. Every car that drove by seemed to be bangin Ruff Ryders Anthem. People were on top of cars, it was females everywhere, of course there was some gunshots and it was just crazy. Tracy Lee performed The Theme at the park and after that X's music was just bangin everywhere.RIP to the dog!

This song never gets old. The lyrics, the video, the hook, everything was perfect. DMX told this story like he was just talking...true poet. X was special and was a gift to all of us while he was here. I'm 42 and not going to front, I've been shedding a few tears for the past few days. Obviously because this brother died, but also because his life and death was a sober reminder for me of how so many of our people are suffering and struggling. This man grew up in foster homes, abandoned by his family, became addicted to drugs, etc BUT God still picked him up off his knees and exalted him to the heights of riches and fame that most of us will never achieve; movies, albums, awards, concerts in front of thousands chanting HIS lyrics! Now my man is at rest, no more pain, no more worries. God is great! Sorry to rant, but this was on my mind. If you read this and take anything from it, take the message that life is short so cherish loved ones, enjoy yourself and let's help each other because you never know what the next man/woman is going through. It's not about how long you live, it's about what you do with the time you're here. Peace!

I’m a nurse in my 30s that lives in the suburbs now but was raised in the projects of NYC. Nothing could ever beat the fun we had in the summertime during the 90s/early 00s with the fire hydrants on blast, the ice cream/icee trucks, quarter waters from the bodega. This video captures the essence of that era. RIP to the legendary DMX

That’s a fact. Ain’t no place like NYC in the 90s. Running to the bodega wet and barefoot with a dollar coming out with a whole bag of candy. Giving it out to your friends. Calling ya momma out the window asking if you can go to so and so’s house. That one bad ass kid singing wifey & sweet lady to you in the playground “That’s my car” , Manhunt, booty tag.. the list goes on.

It was summer of 1998: I was 14 years old just about to enter high school in Norfolk, Virginia. I was full of angst and nervousness that whole summer about the transition to being a Freshman. Like many teenagers back then, we had TRL and BET on the TV every afternoon to catch the latest music videos while our parents were gone all day at work. When this video hit rotation I immediately became a fan of DMX. I remember wishing I was as cool as DMX, cruising around Brooklyn in an S-Class Benz, wearing Tims & looking fresh, hitting on the fine hunnies, and spitting that fire. RIP, DMX, and thanks for the memories.

Yeah it is very sad. I always felt sad near the end when he is acknowledging that it was wrong for him to try to be with her and he knows he cant be with her.
