I can definitely tell this mall is aesthetically stuck in 2001. The whole look gives that fun, early 2000s vibe. I like it a lot though. It definitely works well with the entertainment aspect that mills malls try to give off.

I go to this mall almost everyday back then yes it was but now that Simon has taken over it’s most definitely losing its mills mall vibe from 2001 sadly most areas of the mall by the food court and movie theater has turned into a black and white grey vibe it’s so sad I really like the 2000s vibe I really wish it could stay

Yeah this is my childhood mills mall I’m an 2006 kid and I remember when this mall was still discover mills and when changed its name in 2013. Yes I really liked the late 90s and early 2000s mall styling it was so colorful and wacky and I just love it. Thankfully this mall is kinda safe from Simon even the they bought the mall by the mills corporation it’s still contained a good amount of its color which I love. I don’t think this mall is dead I went there last leek on Saturday and it was pretty packed. I hope Simon doesn’t bleach this mall hopefully they will forget about it and keep it as it is.

@@PurplePuppy2006 It's not dead, but it's a poor performer compared to other mills malls around the country. There aren't many big chain stores in Sugarloaf Mills and its pretty downscale.

Oh that’s true but otherwise I still love going to that mall I’m glad it’s still has a bit of its color left.

I used to go to this mall all the time when I was kid before I eventually moved away. I remember when the skate park was still open, I used to go there with my buddies all the time.

Looking at this video made me really sad. I haven’t been here in almost a decade, and I was planning on going tomorrow, but looking at how it is now makes me feel terrible. My favorite place to shop was a small store that only sold Japanese and Nintendo items run by a sweet Japanese woman, which was located where H&M’s is now. Thanks for the video.

RIP Lydia’s Artbox, it was my favorite place to buy anime things in middle school, when anime wasn’t quite as ubiquitous as it is now. Lan was the coolest employee there, hope she’s doing well wherever she is.

Pica Pica is still there. One of the best anime stores and one of the few that opened when the mall opened still has the same people running it. I still have my old Naruto headband I bought back in 2004.

Gotta say, it looks pretty well occupied and has some modern remnants in it. Zumiez, etc. If this mall survived covid (which it seemingly did) I imagine it’ll hang on. Long live the malls!

I was just here last saturday. It was actually pretty packed. The mall still has potential. Few problems tho. The lighting inside was crap, this looks a lot brighter than what I saw. Also they have a lot of weird shops that have I dont see lasting much longer. What day was this, because Saturday March 27th was pretty packed

It was a Tuesday afternoon in September when this was filmed. It can still get busy there on the weekends but overall the mall traffic there is nothing to what it was 10-15 years ago. Yes the biggest problem with the mall is the lack of recognizable inline tenants. So many odd local stores in the mall which makes it look cheap and doesn't draw the crowds.

With so many local mom and pop type stores I believe the rent must be pretty low here.

this video was posted just as georgia was rolling out its vaccine to citizens and still under lockdown. It's not nearly as dead as this video portrays and on weekends by end of spring 2021, this place is packed. It definitely went through a rough period when the previous owner declared bankruptcy a few years ago and the competition from other local malls/strip malls takes away business, but it still manages to conduct plenty of business.

25:20 WOW! I never knew Blacklion was a chain until this very moment! I've only heard of them because they took the former Bonwit Teller/Dillard's spot in Columbia, SC's Richland Mall for a short while after Dillard's moved out.

The malls in the US need to go more the direction of no food courts. They should look at some malls in South Africa. Having nice restaurants near entrances, and other places dotted throughout and not just stores forever and ever. In South Africa sometimes they have chain grocery stores in the mall as well.

Unfortunately the beautiful 1990's Mills food court aesthetic is no more. Simon removed the stained glass topped gazebo. Gone are all the neon and decorations. Simon thought long and hard and went for the IRS audit office feel by choosing naked walls in the risky off white and grey. Just in the nick of time too, that 90's nostalgia is starting to hit hard and become popular. It would be a shame for people to enjoy the time capsule. Nothing screams entertainment mall like a committee approved DMV aesthetic. I realize the mall was built in 2001 but the decor was more fitting with the mid 90's. I'm sad to see it go, I've been coming here since it opened.

At this point I think there's more of a chance they'll sell it off than remodel it. It's been one of their lower performing properties and has faced it's loan going into default at least twice since Simon has owned it.

@@haroldisintrouble I'm local to the mall as well, have been going to it since 2006. It definitely is not busy compared to what it used to be and the tenant line up is not very strong out side of places like Bass Pro, D&B, Medieval Times, etc. It is not a dead mall by any means but it is slowly declining and is one of Simon's worst performing Mills Malls.
