I always found it interesting that G1 Shockwave is right handed while movie Shockwave is left handed? Unless the cannon is supposed to be his dominant hand in which case, same observation just reversed.

DK-18 UPGRADE KIT FOR SHOCKWAVE: • New Right Arm with Hand Cannon or Lock on Gimmick (Shockwave receives his new arm cannon for his right arm with a lock on gimmick to destroy the city.) • New Left Arm with posing hand (Replace Shockwave’s old left arm into his new left arm with a posing hand.) • New Arm Blade (Assemble the new arm blade with an extending gimmick on his left arm. You can also repaint the blade with a silver paint pen.)

I think you may have had a dud in terms of the purple paint as mine definitely had a lot more purple of it. Seems as DNA had a drop in their QC for yours.

With the poseable fingers, can you close them up in altmode so he doesn't have that big hand just sitting there?

Sort of, the fingers close enough that it obscures the hand a lot more than the open hand. You can't make a fist in vehicle mode, though.
