It can be really difficult balancing emotional honesty and group enjoyment. You really want to cultivate a group that will let you dig into a painful experience and feel it as an incredible moment of a game, but not get their feelings hurt in the real world. A tip I've learned from trial and error through the years is to run big choices by the players ahead of time. It turns a situation from players of "how do I solve this inter-party conflict" to "how do i help to make this conflict more dramatic"

New DM here, killed my first PC recently. Their long lost, recently found daughter, was begging them not to leave her, and their long deceased mother, whose death set in motion their whole character arc, was lovingly guiding them to the other side. I ended up getting super into both these characters at the same time, jumping back and forth between the sheer anguish of losing a father you had just barely found and the immeasurable joy of seeing your child again after so long. I really thought I’d be able to keep it together and just pretend to be emotional, but it really got me and I started bawling! So I just decided to lean into it, quickly swapping back and forth between tears of anguish and of joy. It was an incredible experience for everyone at the the table and I wasn’t even acting! I just felt the emotions and ran with it instead of pushing them down.

“You don’t have to go if you want.” Oh god the fucking gut punch of that emotional statement

Gut punch. Thanks algorithm. Putting this on loop while I sketch out an emotional gut punch in my comic based off a campaign I'm in

Gonna be real - I never expected to explore emotions as much as I did when I started DND(Still my 1st campaign, but learning a lot). Seeing games like yours and others, I've come to really understand it and how it defines people, as well as refine my own expression in acting. It's really helped my writing as well in portraying how "irrational" can be part of being your own person. Or a character with real goals, views and reactions. So I'm thankful when videos like this explore that facet of roleplaying :3 And it helps me appreciate what wonderful peeps this community has and what it's given me ✨️

Good tips, I think. Trying to enhance my character and really make the others at my table *think* and *feel* the implications of his situation, rather than simply observe them. I hope this might help.
