Ancient Gold Dragon gentle parenting a misinformed DND party. “No, no, NO, guys! A bad man in a tower told you I’m a scary evil monster, and that’s just not true. Now, I’ve been protecting this kingdom for a thousand years from my loft on the mountain. Did this bad man in a tower say mean things like that about me because I’m mean? Or maybe because he was upset that I told him he can’t raise the dead as an army? Now I’m sorry to the man in the tower, I could have been nicer with my language when I cast him upon the rocks, but he was not listening, and summoning lots of angry angry zombies at me. Hurt people hurt people, so -- nope. No we’re not gonna start casting spells at me that is NOT NICE. We only use force when we need to, and - ah ah I see we’re not in a listening mood, and you’re throwing aces at me. That hurts me, ouch ouch! Attacking me with axes is not a nice choice so we’re gonna go to the maze dimension and you’re gonna take a break for a minute. Yep. Yep, if we can’t listen then we need to take a break. Once you’ve calmed your body in the maze dimension then we can talk again. Yep yep?” *banishes the party*

The aims of a Good being whose life spans millenia can't be comprehended by beings whose life spans at most a few centuries. The mind of a Dragon is unfathomable for almost all Humanoids.
@Ryodraco21 сағат бұрын
I don't think the time spans are different enough to outright not be comprehended. A dragon is certainly smart enough to explain how its aims will work, even if a shorter-lived being may not accept that reasoning as valid. Heck, some dragons value the perspectives of shorter-lived species because they can also see things a longer-lived creature may not notice.
@jgr748720 сағат бұрын
@Ryodraco it may look that a good Dragon is doing evil to short-lived humans who don't have access to all parts of their machinations.
@Ryodraco20 сағат бұрын
@@jgr7487 certainly, though that sounds more like "possibly difficult" to understand rather than outright unfathomable, especially if the dragon is willing to explain itself. Most of the good dragons also seem to have moral codes for their daily life that would keep them from doing outright evil things even for some distant possible good benefit.
@floofzykitty507215 сағат бұрын
Being good aligned in D&D is defined as respecting the autonomy of other intelligent creatures. Regardless of how "unfathomable" they are, a truly good aligned dragon would make the effort to ensure their decisions are understood.

Silver dragons are my favorite. Their willingness to interact with humanoid societies make them a good source of adventure hooks. My favorite one i've used spends most of their time polymorphed and running a museum that collects artifacts of significance to either sequester or study them. The museum is their lair, the exhibits are their horde, and the people associated with it are a faction significant to the whole region.

They previewed the Ancient Green Dragon last year. Compared to 2014, the 2024 version has: - More HP (402 vs 385) - Better Initiative (+8 and Advantage vs +1) - Lost proficiency in Con/Cha saves - More Legendary Resistances (4 or 5 when in Lair vs 3) - Bite + 2 Claw multiattack turned into three Rend attacks. Rend is similar to Bite in Reach (15 ft) and damage types (mix of piercing and poison) but slightly less damage. It's more damage than Claw though, so Multiattack ends up being more total damage. - Removed Frightful Presence - Added Spellcasting with At Will Charm Monster (5th Level), Detect Magic, and Dissonant Whispers, 2/Day Cloudkill and Geas, and 1/Day Modify Memory and Polymorph - Added Spellcasting to multiattack, so the dragon can make two Rend attacks and cast a spell on the same turn. - Changed Legendary Actions to three Reactions per round, the options are a retaliatory attack, a poison AoE that lowers enemy AC temporarily, and casting Charm Monster. Gets an extra Reaction per round if in the lair So I'd say you're gonna get your wish.

Really play up it being the master of the forest, attacking through the trees, using them as cover to stage ambushes. Imagine a colossal dragon being able to fly unhindered through a dense forest, swooping down to do flyby attacks when there seems to be no room for an aerial attack.

I still wished for Legendary Resistances to not just be nope buttons for CC Spells. But also able to use them to halve the damage of attacks. That way they would be burned faster, but also more optional in how they can be used. Something like this: Legendary Resistance (4/Day). If the Legendary Creature fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead. Optionally, if the Legendary Creature gets hit by an attack roll, it can choose to gain Resistance against the Damage of this attack till the next turn. It's what I use in my home games. My players love it as it makes reducing these resistances a team effort and rewarding for all when they are gone. Instead of just being a Delay for Casters, especially those focused on control spells.

Keen with some of the changes but the lack of gem dragons kind of sucks. Will stick to Fizban's for all things Sardior.
