Great video. This is one area a lot of people overlook in a an overall good security posture. Rerouting, deleting, reflection attacks, tunneling etc; all happen within DNS. A simple but extremely vital part of our more secure and private lives that more people are trying to live.

Elie, I am glad that you have returned to that type of content! I want you to know that you are really good at this. Me, personally speaking, have watched a lot of your old videos, about Networks, Servers and IT in general. With the knowledge I gained from your content, I managed to go to a local IT course, then get a certificate and now I work as a System Administrator. 3-4 years ago I only knew how to use google and youtube on a computer, quite literally. So keep it going, you really are good at what you are doing, and you know how to explain complex concepts understandably !

The part about getting the dns from the .com .it .tech ..etc. Is not really mentioned in other videos. Good job Eli! This is something I will use just to train and fill the dns entries for a month or two. Probably using a VPN to the authoritative servers. Then switch it to normal dns using cloud-flare, after I think I hit enough of the websites. DNS is usually where I see security fails. Wildly.. understated.. as something you NEED to do for security! Or use a VPN with good DNS and no DNS leaks. But hell ya! Love to get that from the actual source.. I'll be doing that soon!

Useful to know: Configuration of DNS can take place on three levels: 1) on the local machine (in the host files) 2) on the Router/Modem 3) on Google DNS servers (e.g. 8.8.8.8)

Nice to see you again eli. Comment here if i get this right this is my own opinion. Dns is a server that takes a dns query and gives you back the ip address of that host or domain name or it resolves the ip address of that domain name or hostname. we can use wireshark and see how dns works. if we use the c programming language or any low level languages and we need to get to like google.com we need to resolve the ip address in order to connect to it through sockets.

This seems like it was geared towards Network Administrators, but then failed to address what administrators could do too prevent employees on their network from bypassing their DNS rules. One could do a number of things such as (1) IP Destination Blocking for known DNS servers (except for the one the local DNS is configured to use), and (2) Port Forwarding to simply redirect the googles and such too OpenDNS (or whatever you want it to go); and/or one could not worry about DNS servers and instead use Web Filter software at the router that allows the administrator to block known categories of websites like Violence, Hate, Cults, Drugs, Nudity, Weapons, Malware Sites, Bot Nets, Keyloggers, etc., etc., etc.
