10 years? 1 year ago I said "give digital night vision 2 years to catch up to analog" and its been improving QUICKLY. If this company plays their cards right, the V2 can be it. Other companies are making great digital night vision thats getting really close to a usable unit.

I respect the hell out of what hoplite is doing with the DNV-9 and other digital devices. But watching from the sidelines it seems like this launch is more of an open beta, I have no doubt they will make a ton of improvements down the road. It just sucks for the ppl who already bought in to it. I also wonder if ppl are being extra hard on these BECAUSE they are new and home grown. They want to love it but in order to love it they need to beat the shit out of it first - kinda thing.
@HopliteIndustries5 ай бұрын
The issues on the initial launch are unfortunate.. These issues were found and addressed quite early on. We are currently machining new parts, amd injection molding new battery packs. These solve all mechanical issues amd will be provided to existing customers for free. The Gen 2 will have all these mechanical solutions from the get go, along with massive performance improvements. We are looking forward to a follow up review
@leom37104 ай бұрын
Hi @HopliteIndustries : And exactly what massive improvements are these that you will be offering with gen 2 compared to gen 1? You're referring to the fact that all the hardware issues mentioned, such as the battery pack, helmet mount and so on, will be fixed in the Gen 2 version. But what massive improvements are coming to the Gen 2? If I look at the camera, sensor and latency data on your website and compare Gen 1 with Gen 2, they both have exactly the same specs? Could you tell us a bit more about it and please adjust the data on your website, because as mentioned; specs of Gen1 and Gen2 are the same! I am sure more people (me incl.) will be trying and purchasing the Gen 2 device if the specs/Data shows that there is really a massive improvement compared to Gen 1. Thank you very much. BR. LM

For focus on NV, you can take a dust/day cap and cut out a small aperture. This will give you a SIGNIFICANTLY wider depth of focus. The tradeoff is that it restricts the light, so this can't be used in low-light. The smaller the aperture, the better the effect seems to be (and of course, likewise, the less light). The best balance seems to be about the size of a 5.56 casing's neck.
@PNWGUERRILLA5 ай бұрын
That trick really doesn’t work though. It’s not worth it at all.
@bobbertbobberson67255 ай бұрын
@@PNWGUERRILLA It... does though. I do it. I have to take it off indoors, low illum, etc. but on bright nights where I can take advantage of it, I do so, and not missing things in the distance because I'm focused up close is an advantage. And when the caps are under 10 bucks, it's not worth it *not* to have an extra cap on you.

I know short battery life is not ideal but it’s hard to fault them on that. When you get into high resolution displays and cameras with low light capabilities they end up sucking power. I can’t say the PVS-69s are much better but I do recommend rechargeable CR123s and I’ve also made battery packs that are 18650 capable to bring the run time up

Just an FYI to anyone interested in their housing design. They completely ripped off the wilcox pvs14 bridge design, and somehow managed to completely fail in copying it. Because the wilcox bridge has always been decently solid as far as the tension of the articulation. Not as good as a dedicated bino housing, but pretty good. The fact that theirs just flops around is hilarious

Thanks for the review dude. Lover your stuff! One thing you may wanna consider is the visibility of red light by drone, especially under thermal. The fantastic resource that is CivDiv recently was talking about the dangers of red light on the battlefield. Apparently they killed some ruskies recently, spotted via drone by their red lights. He says in some cases red shows up even brighter on thermal. Just something to consider and maybe test one day. Keep it up dude and happy birthday!
@PNWGUERRILLA5 ай бұрын
I understand this. And on the battlefield I get it. But you have to be able to see at night somehow. Everyone who says don’t use illuminators or red light have never tried to use ONLY night vision with no moon light in the woods. It’s just not happening. You can’t do anything because you can’t see.
