The reason the bench did so well, is that the Mavericks had half of their normal bench in the starting line up.
@TheMilapMehta14 күн бұрын
AG looked GREAT off the bench. He can create his own shot better than MPJ which really helps in non-Jokic minutes. Hope the Nuggets continue that since this lineup works. The part that concerns me is that it took forever for Jokic to get a shot in the second half. When another team goes on a 10+ point run, the Nugget HAVE to get the ball to Jokic. Having Jamal isos or CB/Strawther/MPJ jack up a quick shot with no pass should never happen. Jokic is a guaranteed gapstop. Why the Nuggets refuse to use it is beyond me.

As Vogt said on the pod, Dallas insisted that Jokic play that way because of their gameplan
@fastage10113 күн бұрын
The hard part in this game is the mavs force the Nuggets to try and win by anyone not named jokic. They double jokic every single time he gets the ball because they don’t want him to get going. That’s why he only had 19 points. They also had lively and afford playing at the same time they were copying Minnesota’s strategy
@TheMilapMehta13 күн бұрын
@ Yes, Dallas made a conscious effort to get the ball out of Jokic's hand. I'm not saying this should have been a 35+ point night for Jokic but 13 shot attempts was not all Dallas. There were plenty of possessions during the Mavs' run where Murray and others immediately took a shot without passing. When the other team is on a run, you HAVE to make an effort to get the ball to Jokic and the Nuggets didn't do that.
@TheMilapMehta13 күн бұрын
@ Jokic didn't score much in the 4th either, but he at least got the ball. Jokic isn't going to force bad shots which is why the Nuggets have to get it to him. Russ and others were cutting, and Jokic got a bunch of assists in the 4th. In the 3rd quarter when the Mavs made the run, Jamal and others didn't even try to get Jokic the ball. They immediately took a shot once they crossed half court. When the opponent makes a run, you HAVE to get Jokic the ball.

That's a pretty big win tonight. Guys came out real flat and I thought they were gonna throw another one away. They definitely flipped the switch tonight in the 4th. The Denver second unit is still bad but there's been growth with this group and they are responding well to the challenge which is great and Malone has acquired some flexibility mixing up the combinations on the floor. The glaring problems this team had a couple weeks back are slowly getting covered through adapting and confidence building and that's the beauty of this team, that they are learning and developing with every game.

Horrible coaching game. If Malone starts Jokic/MPJ/Watson/CB/RUSS, this game would not be this close. The Mavs has no great playmaker or scorer on their team, all we need are solid perimeter defenders to stop them from sharing the ball. Make the Mavs play iso, and we have length against them. 1st quarter the Mavs kept playing the bully ball on Murray really hurt my eyes. Issue is they can't put Jamal on the bench. He's making the max while Russ is making the minimum. Management will let Jamal start until he proves his worth or until they can find a trade
@JakeStine14 күн бұрын
Doubtful the front office wants to trade Murray. Russ is playing at an all-star level but is aging and the front office probably values 6+ more years of mediocre Murray playing hero-ball than 2-3 years of Russ and Jokic potentially being the greatest duo in the history of the NBA. Given that they're likely more than happy to sit on Murray's salary just to keep him locked in for the long term, I don't see a reason they shouldn't feel empowered to bring him off the bench. He's been so bad for so long in 1st quarters, for real, Murray should welcome it at this point. Maybe he can reinvent himself quickly in a sort of Manu Ginobili kind of role, where can can often be the team's best player in the 2nd half of games, but just isn't a starter. It works because the game's slowed down a bit and offenses are a little tired and Murray's inability to play defense isn't such a huge liability like it is in the first quarter when teams are running set plays and picking the guy they want to abuse each time down.
@dreamoffrog601414 күн бұрын
We need to stop seeing MPJ as more handsome than he is. against Dallas he was THE problem because he sucks in defense. Dallas in the first 6 minutes of the 3Q took 90% of their shots playing on the crap that is MPJ on defense.

@@dreamoffrog6014 Be careful not to blame MPJ for what's actually a Murray problem. Most of the time MPJ is looking "bad" on defense, it's because he's busy doing a complex defensive rotation scheme that's been designed in specifically to address the fact that Murray can't fight through, over, under, or around any screen by any other NBA player. This makes the ENTIRE Nuggets unit look bad on defense, because they're all spinning and rotating and recovering and desperately trying to close out, while Murray just stands at the elbow saving energy for Denver to get the ball back.
